00:00Referee Ignatius Smith with his instructions.
00:03I want you to obey my commands and protect yourselves at all times.
00:07Touch gloves and good luck.
00:09So we do battle for the number two position in the IBF at light heavyweight
00:15Jerome Pamperlone and Connor Wallace trying to win through to something very, very big indeed.
00:24Pamperlone, he's renowned as the puncher.
00:28Wallace though, he can bang as well.
00:30This is a world class contest at light heavyweight and we are underway.
00:37A huge Irish contingent here in Sydney to support Wallace.
00:44But Pamperlone, the theory goes he'll try and do something early if he can.
00:58Huge reach advantage, clear even at this early stage for Wallace.
01:03But he needs to use it against the banger.
01:06Wallace has to be ready, I would suggest he keep that front hand busy
01:10because Pamperlone is going to do just that, try to get close and explode.
01:21He's happy to have a scrap is Wallace.
01:24He's made that clear as he turns around that left hand.
01:29Pamperlone, beaten for the first time last time out.
01:34But keen to make amends after staying in the IBF rankings
01:38and now getting another shot straight away.
01:41Why did you say he would look to do something early Pamperlone?
01:44He's a big puncher and notoriously he can get rid of opponents quite early.
01:50He likes to be explosive so if he could, he'd love to.
01:57But Wallace, he's not to be messed with, he can punch too.
02:01And the problem is Wallace has got really good feet.
02:05So for Jerome it's got to be more than just getting close and punching hard.
02:11He's got to figure out a way to get there.
02:21Here's Wallace trying to turn that left hand around and there's plenty on those.
02:28As he keeps Pamperlone on the end of his punches.
02:32Reaches out with that right drive to the body does Pamperlone.
02:38There's something on these from Pamperlone as he gets Wallace here against the ropes.
02:41He goes over the top.
02:43Couple of big right hands and here he goes, Pamperlone.
02:47Wallace comes back and it didn't take long for this one to get going.
02:53I like that, Wallace said I ain't no punk, he came right back, I like that.
02:57Wow.
02:58They were big shots from Pamperlone and Wallace took them and came straight back.
03:04Then he reaches out with his own left hand and another and Pamperlone backs off here.
03:10Good punching from Connor Wallace.
03:12Goes one, two and three.
03:17Ten seconds left in the rounds.
03:20Wallace.
03:23He sent him backwards for a moment.
03:29Fascinating opening rounds.
03:31Pamperlone unloaded and Wallace responded.
03:37That was a really good round.
03:39The only thing that you have to concentrate on.
03:43Really good round.
03:44Right here.
03:45He's setting up that big overhand right and then he said you know what, I'm going to come back to it.
03:49He throws a double right hand right here.
03:51Boom, boom, boom and kept coming with it.
03:55I mean just vicious but then Wallace said I ain't no punk and he came right back.
03:59This was the funnest moment of this fight so far.
04:05And then a straight left coming from Wallace.
04:07This is where Wallace wants to operate from the outside.
04:10But he ain't afraid to get down and dirty if he has to.
04:12I like that.
04:15Beautiful boxing from Wallace the first round.
04:19And Jerome Pamperlone holding his own as well.
04:22Close first round.
04:24Well Connor Wallace is already in one Fight of the Year contender this year against Jack Kipp.
04:29He won that by a six round stoppage.
04:32And this one has the makings of another.
04:37Pamperlone and Wallace.
04:40Wallace already is showing he is not to be bullied by the puncher.
04:47There are those right hands again from Pamperlone.
04:49He goes to work in this same corner.
04:51This is the corner over here.
04:53Big shots from Pamperlone.
04:55Wallace steps forward and hangs on.
04:59I love this corner over there.
05:02Right near you.
05:05And it's containing all of the action at this point.
05:08Well look at the adjustment from Pamperlone.
05:10He's getting low now.
05:11And he's weaving his way in to avoid the long punches.
05:15Well those two got through.
05:16Those long left hands from Wallace.
05:21Reaches out and finds Pamperlone.
05:25And here's the Panther who now weaves out of that corner.
05:29And gets himself back towards center ring.
05:35Oh yeah I forgot.
05:36Pamperlone has a lead left hook that's vicious.
05:40So look for him to throw that.
05:41Especially against the southpaw.
05:45He's been concentrating on that straight right hand against the southpaw.
05:49But he will try to bring that shot in.
05:53That powerful lead left hook.
05:56Now the question I got for you Ben.
05:58Have you seen Pamperlone's power carry over to late rounds?
06:02Not as much as early in his fights for sure.
06:05So that was the issue against Malik Zinad.
06:07Is that he just couldn't find the big shots.
06:11And maybe he started to run out of steam just a little bit.
06:15But he's got plenty of power early.
06:18As we just saw with that big right hand here in round two.
06:21And there's another.
06:22And another.
06:25Wallace though smiles.
06:27He's not to be bullied.
06:28Not one bit.
06:31And he reaches out.
06:35Wow.
06:37Left hand Wallace.
06:38And here he goes Connor Wallace.
06:44He's been knocked around a couple of times since Jerome Pamperlone.
06:50And he's a little unsteady.
06:54Wallace will look for that big left hand.
07:00Leaping shots with the right hand from Pamperlone.
07:02I can tell you that the power is not going to carry over.
07:04And I'll tell you why.
07:05Make it quick.
07:06He's loading with those punches.
07:09There's only so much loading you can do.
07:11Oh he's loading all right.
07:12He is throwing himself off his feet as Jerome Pamperlone.
07:17So he's trying to finish this early.
07:21But Connor Wallace is having none of it.
07:24Another serious three minutes of action.
07:27Between Pamperlone and Wallace.
07:30You're sloppy.
07:32Listen to me.
07:33When we're here.
07:34I want you walking.
07:35But you've got to have this foot outside.
07:37I need you walking in that jukebox.
07:39With momentum and landing punches and breathing.
07:41Your flat front legs and arms don't do that.
07:44You're either out or in.
07:46You've got to have this foot outside.
07:48You've got to have this foot outside.
07:50Your flat front legs and arms don't do that.
07:52You're either out.
07:53Change, change.
07:54Get the walk.
07:56You kill them all day every day.
07:58We good?
07:59That's all.
08:00You need these to be good.
08:01Don't get sloppy.
08:02You need momentum.
08:05Cool?
08:06Don't ever get desperate.
08:08You've been great.
08:09Let's be better.
08:10Look at the change room.
08:11Look at the pads.
08:12Look at the balance.
08:13Yeah?
08:14Take this submission on the fight.
08:16Take your time.
08:17I need momentum.
08:20And his leading Kiwi trainer, Isaac Peach,
08:23giving the instructions to Jerome Pamperlone.
08:31That's great information coming from the corner,
08:33but he's got to understand what he's got in his fighter.
08:36When you dip down low like that, it basically cements your feet.
08:40Whoa.
08:41Big right hand again from Pamperlone.
08:44But Wallace, he wore it sort of on the shoulder and the neck,
08:47and came straight back with shots of his own.
08:50Well, Coach wants his fighter to be a little lighter on his feet.
08:52I don't think that's going to happen.
08:54I got to get him in quick.
08:55These guys are blowing up.
08:58He is putting everything into these shots, is Pamperlone.
09:03But Wallace is boxing very nicely, coming back with big shots,
09:10finding a home in that big, straight, long left hand.
09:17Uppercut Pamperlone.
09:19Right hand Pamperlone.
09:30Pamperlone steps towards.
09:31It's Wallace, though, who's leading the action at this point.
09:35Uppercut from Wallace.
09:37Round two he goes.
09:39A lot of energy coming from Pamperlone.
09:43I'm surprised to see Wallace not using his lead hand more,
09:47using just that jab more to kind of stabilize and tame Pamperlone.
09:54There's the jab there.
09:57Wild shot Pamperlone.
09:59That is not what they want to see in the New Zealand corner.
10:10You know what they say, and it's true, the punches that miss,
10:13those are the ones that wear you out and fatigue you.
10:16The more he does that, the more he's going to get worn down.
10:23Doubling out that left hand is Connor Wallace
10:27and turning his lead hand around.
10:33Moving well, too, is the big man
10:36as Pamperlone got that right hand through again,
10:38and now he drives to the body.
10:42Yeah, if I was Pamperlone, I'd be trying to use my jab
10:45and feints to get to the body.
10:47Wouldn't even be looking for big overhand rights
10:49and big hooks right now.
10:50You've got to wear down Wallace.
10:52His feet are too good, and he's too fast.
10:58He's showing exceptional footwork, is Connor Wallace,
11:02for a man of his size.
11:09And now he does bring that lead right hand into play
11:13and tries to find a power shot off the back of it.
11:19Pamperlone, he'll throw a big right hand,
11:21you'd fancy to finish this round.
11:24There it is, but it misses.
11:28And they head to the stools, and Wallace,
11:32he puts a glove in the air.
11:33He's very happy with how things are going so far.
11:39If we're doing this enough, we're flat-footed.
11:42We need urgency with the walk.
11:44It's relaxed, but it's the walk.
11:46Then you get in there.
11:47What we're doing, we're doing everything we're supposed to
11:49to get flat-footed.
11:50He's longer, he's catching us.
11:52We need to be able to shut that distance away.
11:54Urgency's the key.
11:56We're going to make him win this,
11:57or we're going to go through this shit again.
11:59All right?
12:02You know what I mean?
12:03Things have got to be better.
12:04They've been good all camp, they're not good.
12:06They need to be balanced.
12:07There needs to be urgency.
12:08When you're going to go, you go hard.
12:10Two or three shots, hard.
12:11You're on the ropes, you're going to be a beast,
12:12and then you go back to relaxing.
12:13You don't circle away a little bit.
12:15You stay there, and you play it, and you see it.
12:17Stay out front.
12:18Come on.
12:20Good boy.
12:25Trainer Isaac Peach gives himself a good drink
12:27after issuing the instructions.
12:30My dad used to do that.
12:32Did your dad used to wear pink thongs in the club?
12:34No.
12:35Isaac Peach does, though.
12:39They told me I wouldn't see him in anything but those flip-flops.
12:42Flip-flops.
12:43I didn't believe it.
12:44Yeah.
12:45Thongs, flip-flops.
12:46You know what I mean.
12:47Oh, there's that right hand.
12:49Oh, it's a big shot.
12:50Careful, Owen.
12:51He is trying now to find those big shots,
12:54and Wallace, he smiles and pokes the tongue out,
12:59indicating he's all good with that,
13:02but they are medicine shots still.
13:04Here in this fourth round from Jerome Pamperlone.
13:06Doesn't want to stand there and even allow him to Pamperlone and land them
13:11because even though they don't hurt,
13:13guess what, you're giving him confidence to throw more.
13:16That one got through, but Wallace was moving with it,
13:20and then he gets...
13:21Hold on.
13:22Whose is it?
13:23Yours?
13:24Over there.
13:25Whose is it?
13:26It's in the colors of the Irish flag, the mouthpiece that's come out,
13:30so I fancy that is Connor Wallace's.
13:33I feel like the ref stepped in there too soon.
13:37It didn't seem to be a natural break in the action,
13:39but we continue, and they'll pick up where they left off,
13:43regardless, you would think.
13:54Trying to find a position to throw his big shots is Pamperlone,
13:58but all the while Wallace boxing nicely, using his feet.
14:05Now he's in his corner.
14:08I will say this, Pamperlone, he covers a lot of distance very quickly.
14:14He's explosive, no doubt.
14:22But he is boxing like a man who needs to score with something big at the moment.
14:26A lot of energy too Pamperlone is using.
14:32Doubling up the power hand is Wallace.
14:37And he's away as Pamperlone tries to find him.
14:40You know, Pamperlone gives it up, so this movement, what he's doing
14:44is he's forcing Wallace to walk towards him with the movement,
14:48but then he gives it up by lunging in.
14:50He's got to force Wallace to come at him and create some openings.
14:57And he got through there.
15:00Wallace comes back with a couple off the top.
15:10There's that little left hand from Wallace as well.
15:18And Pamperlone has him in the corner again, but misses his target.
15:23It's your own Pamperlone.
15:2715 seconds remaining here in round number 4 of this title eliminator.
15:35Good shot, Connor Wallace.
15:412-1-2.
15:47Four rounds down.
15:49And for the first time, 2-1-4, did you find a round for your own Pamperlone?
15:54I did.
15:55You know, these little marks that I have on my paper right here
15:58are indicating how close the round is.
16:00So to me, there's only been one clear decisive round that Wallace has won.
16:05I even thought this last round was close as well.
16:08But right here, this is what Jerome does early on in these rounds.
16:11He takes control, throws these big, hard,
16:15This is the shot.
16:16Kind of punches like that right there.
16:18But then he gives up rounds.
16:19That round he didn't give up.
16:21He managed to keep it together and continue to land some bigger shots
16:25than Wallace in that round.
16:28Big shots they were from Pamperlone.
16:32Wallace plays them well again.
16:38And we head out now for round number 5.
16:42In this sold-out venue here in Sydney.
16:44I've got to tell you, he ain't going to make it.
16:46I mean, a lot of this stuff coming from Pamperlone
16:49is the big overhand rights, big hooks, lunging right hands,
16:53and he's missing a lot of them.
16:56That's going to wear him down.
16:58Well, yeah, as I said, I think he's fighting like a man
17:01who needs to score with something big.
17:03Isn't he, Sean?
17:04Yeah, but the thing is, you have to set things up
17:08especially against such a good boxer.
17:10He's very erect, Wallace, that is.
17:13Good soft-paw stance, and he can move his feet.
17:16You've got to set it up.
17:21Those are some of the fundamental things that Jerome is lagging.
17:25He doesn't have the ability to feint, to get close to Wallace.
17:29He doesn't know how to do that, and he doesn't know how to use his feet.
17:32He only knows how to use his hands.
17:35His feet, he only knows how to lunge in.
17:40He has relied on his power at times in his professional boxing career,
17:45and he doesn't want to be doing that
17:47throughout 12 rounds here against Conor Wallace,
17:50who scores with a left hand.
17:52And I'll go ahead and contradict myself real quick.
17:55He may make it because this is more than likely
17:57how he's used to fighting, which means his muscle memory
18:00is used to this kind of energy exertion.
18:06But yeah, let's get some of the basics right there.
18:09The jab to the body, nice little clean landing throw.
18:15Good shots from Wallace there.
18:17Just caught Pamperline flat-footed and tossed out his shots.
18:23Now Pamperline scores big.
18:26Right hand over the top, slammed into the head of Wallace,
18:29but again, he wears it well.
18:32He wears it well.
18:37That looked a serious shot, but Wallace was unperturbed.
18:44You know, it's beneficial being, what, 13 and 1
18:48and not having been in wars.
18:51So his punch resistance is high.
18:54He's been in a couple of wars.
18:57Those fights with Leddy Leddy and the fight with Jack Kitt
19:00recently spring to mind, but you're right.
19:03He's got some serious resilience
19:06because he took that shot like it was nothing,
19:08and it was not nothing.
19:10Listen, as long as he allows or Pamperline is able to land these,
19:15he'll keep coming.
19:16He'll have confidence that he can make one of those shots
19:19and eventually do it.
19:22Good combination there from Wallace.
19:26He's got it.
19:31Chasing his Pamperline off the back of the success
19:36of that one big right hand.
19:39He wants something even bigger as he gets through again
19:42and knocks the mouthpiece out.
19:44It was just a short left hand,
19:46and the referee, Ignatius Misalides,
19:49is straight in there again to bust it up.
19:56And Isaac Peach in Pamperline's corner,
19:58not at all happy with any of that.
20:02And here he comes to have some choice words with the referee.
20:08Love it, man.
20:09That's good cornering right there.
20:15I can tell you how powerful those punches are.
20:18He has a mouthpiece that's made to fit in his mouth,
20:21and nothing's supposed to make that thing come out.
20:24Those are some heavy blows Jerome's throwing.
20:30Big straight left right there coming from Wallace,
20:34just trailing Jerome on his way out.
20:37Very nice punch, and then Jerome coming back
20:40with that overhand right there.
20:42From this distance, it looked like it landed,
20:44but when you see the replay right there,
20:46we see that that wasn't a punch that landed flesh.
20:51So overhand right lands more on the ear
20:54or the side of the head.
20:57Yeah, the Vaseline and sweat and water went everywhere.
21:03Made it look even bigger than it was,
21:06but Pamperline inching closer to the target.
21:12Gotta make sure everyone's aware,
21:13if that mouthpiece comes out again,
21:15there's point deduction.
21:17No more warnings or anything.
21:20Good shot there from Pamperline.
21:22He's Australian.
21:29He pushes forward, does Jerome Pamperline,
21:32towards Connor Wallace here,
21:33and he tosses out that right hand again.
21:38Wallace, he goes one-two.
21:40They're good shots.
21:42Beautiful one-two.
21:48Let's go, let's go.
21:53Combination punching from Wallace.
22:01Pamperline, he threw himself forward there,
22:04nearly lost his balance,
22:05and through that little barrage from Connor Wallace,
22:08there's a cat underneath the eye of Pamperline as well.
22:13Wallace is stepping up the intensity here.
22:16And now stepping at Pamperline.
22:19He goes forward, does Connor Wallace.
22:23Going into some fire, that's for sure.
22:27Stop, stop.
22:28Tries to work to the body
22:29as the blood trickles down the face of Pamperline.
22:42Awkwardly, Pamperline charges towards...
22:49Wallace, he's boxing nicely here in the second half
22:52of round number six.
22:55Yeah, that energy of Pamperline assaulting the waiver,
22:58I can see it.
23:00He leaps out with a left hook,
23:02but he misses the man.
23:05And Wallace comes straight back.
23:08Wallace boxing very smartly.
23:11Even though he's trailing Pamperline,
23:13he's always ready for that defense like that right there.
23:17There he goes again, does Wallace.
23:19Puts a few together and then gets out of there.
23:29Exchange hooks.
23:36Oh, is that shot over the top again?
23:40Once again, it's connecting but not flush from Pamperline.
23:45And he looks for it another time.
23:52And over the top Pamperline after Wallace went to the body.
24:01And a good round for Connor Wallace
24:03with some good moments from Jerome Pamperline.
24:06Round six is down.
24:10All right?
24:11All right.
24:12How are you feeling?
24:13I'm feeling just freezing.
24:15Are you cold?
24:16Yeah, I'm pained.
24:17That's why I'm taking my time.
24:19We need to be on the front.
24:21Listen, we need to be on the front,
24:23foot taking every time, right?
24:25And we need to be, when it counts,
24:26we've got to be leading guys.
24:27We're halfway through the fight.
24:29We're not doing this again.
24:30We've got to change it around.
24:31You can't stop it.
24:33We've got to get a walk.
24:34We've got to get a walk, yeah?
24:36And we've got to fight.
24:37When we get to another fight,
24:38we're not firing.
24:39I've debated the fight for the...
24:42Okay, that's fine.
24:44That's why the media got quite serious.
24:48You can do this, bro.
24:49You can do this.
24:54Nikita Zhu stretching it out.
24:58He's in our main event here tonight
25:00against Cohen Mazudia.
25:03Right now we're watching the IBF
25:05light heavyweight title eliminator,
25:08between Conor Wallace and Jerome Pamperlone.
25:10Next up, it is Michael Zarafa and Tommy Brown.
25:14And then it is our main event,
25:16Nikita Zhu and Cohen Mazudia.
25:20Great to have you with us on main events.
25:24Huge crowd here in Sydney.
25:26And then watching a high quality
25:29brutal chess match here
25:31between Conor Wallace and Jerome Pamperlone
25:35who is hunting for big shots like that.
25:42Wallace, he's had plenty of moments of his own
25:45and he can see the swelling
25:47all around that right eye of Pamperlone
25:50thanks to the left hand of Wallace.
25:56Big shots again, Wallace, and Pamperlone came back.
25:59He drives that right hand again.
26:02I like it.
26:03You know, on one hand, I'm like,
26:05ah, you gotta look for something else.
26:07But on the other side of it, it's like,
26:09hey, if this is who you are,
26:11you can't go away from it, you know?
26:13So he's still loading up on his overhands
26:15and landing them.
26:16He's landing them and some of them are missing
26:19just by the smallest of margins.
26:22And surely if he connects with,
26:24that's a serious headlock right there,
26:28Wallace just had him in.
26:30Yeah.
26:34Serious shots they are.
26:37Oh, that one to the body is a good shot too from Pamperlone.
26:42Backs up into the ropes to Wallace
26:44as Pamperlone looks to big right hands.
26:47That got through.
26:48Here he goes again, Jerome Pamperlone.
26:52Wallace sticks the tongue out.
27:00Top stuff from Wallace.
27:02And the Irish fans surge.
27:06Because he's trying to weather this storm.
27:08And what a storm it is.
27:10A big punching barrage
27:14from Pamperlone who just keeps on throwing.
27:26Wallace jabs and the power comes back from Pamperlone.
27:30There's the headlock again.
27:33Wallace doing what he's supposed to do.
27:35When you put your weight on your opponent like that,
27:38it wears him down.
27:44One-two Wallace.
27:45And again, that one misses and he just hangs on.
27:51And they are screaming at Pamperlone from his corner.
27:55They want him going forward and throwing those sorts of shots
27:58but Wallace comes straight back into him.
28:01And the Irish fans, they salute him again.
28:10As we get into the Wallace corner.
28:16Keep that intensity.
28:17Keep that intensity up.
28:19Keep that concentration up.
28:20I've never seen you concentrate like this before.
28:22Perfect, mate.
28:23Front hand up, you're controlling the distance.
28:25You're shooting that left perfectly, alright?
28:29Again, we can probably get into the body a few shots, you know?
28:32When you see it with that left.
28:35We know what we got coming from Pamperlone.
28:37These overhand rights and they are vicious.
28:40And even with all this,
28:42you get the tone from the man, Connor Wallace.
28:46Entertainer is what Wallace is
28:48and then he comes back with his own straight left.
28:50Beautiful boxing from Wallace.
28:52These rounds are really, really close
28:54and I feel like Connor Wallace is doing just enough to steal him.
29:01The crowd is enjoying it
29:03and amazing that at this stage,
29:0680 shots apiece have scored from both of these fighters.
29:11But Wallace is throwing a lot more punches overall.
29:15I'll tell you what, for big boys,
29:17we've got high energy for seven going on eight rounds now.
29:21If they're able to maintain this for 12 rounds or less,
29:24to this point, we have a great fight.
29:31And I was told coming here that this would be the fight of the night.
29:36Yeah, this is the one that plenty were looking forward to the most.
29:39Connor Wallace and Jerome Pamperlone.
29:42And because of what's on the line as well
29:44as Pamperlone gets out with that right hand.
29:48Artur Berebeev and Dmitry Bivol.
29:51They will fight for all of the belts in the division.
29:56A victory here though as Wallace goes one and two.
30:00Puts the winner into the number two position in the IBF.
30:04So right in touching distance of all of that silverware.
30:10For anyone who isn't aware.
30:13Right hand.
30:15Pamperlone slams it through.
30:17Wallace wears it well again.
30:29There's Wallace.
30:31Coming forward savagely with his straight punches.
30:35Into the body it is.
30:37And a left hook as well from Pamperlone.
30:40Look at this boxing from Wallace.
30:43I mean he ties up when he needs to.
30:45Puts his weight on Pamperlone when he needs to.
30:48Beautiful jab from the outside.
30:50One, two quick punches from the outside.
30:57He was a very, very good amateur boxer was Connor Wallace.
31:04And he's showing those skills here.
31:06And he needs to stay disciplined.
31:08Against a puncher like Pamperlone.
31:13Definitely stay disciplined.
31:15Because I haven't won in this fight right now.
31:17He wouldn't want to eat a big overhand or a big hook.
31:21Just because he's got complacent.
31:23There's that hook.
31:39They both throw big shots.
31:43Wallace got through with one there.
31:51Reaching is Pamperlone.
31:55He can't fight him though with that wild swing.
32:01And they tangle.
32:03To the bell and eight down.
32:09Fascinating fight.
32:12And here's Isaac Peach in the Pamperlone corner.
32:39Now come on, go and get this prick.
32:42Come on.
32:43Send him back to Ireland.
32:44Listen to the fucking music.
32:45It's Rocky movie.
32:46You're looking like the Cullinan.
32:47Don't be it man.
32:48Send him back to Ireland.
32:49Are we doing it?
32:50Let's do it.
32:53So it is operation motivation in the Pamperlone corner.
32:57They are trying to get him fired up.
32:59Because it's all on the line.
33:02Jerome Pamperlone and Connor Wallace.
33:06Wallace boxing beautifully.
33:09Moving nicely.
33:10Scoring at times.
33:13Pamperlone looking for a massive bomb.
33:23Driving to the body is Pamperlone.
33:25Head over the top.
33:27And he goes with his left hook too.
33:30Wallace absorbs and hangs on and leans.
33:36There hasn't been a moment in any other corner
33:41like the moments we've had here in this corner.
33:44And I know how much you like getting covered in sweat and blood from these fighters.
33:49No blood just yet.
33:50But plenty of sweat because
33:53our monster shots that are rocking the bodies around.
34:00And it feels like there's a sting in the tail of this one.
34:03There's something dramatic to come.
34:06Because there's been too much action for it to be otherwise.
34:09I agree.
34:10I feel like there's another level that we're going to get to at some point.
34:17I don't know how.
34:18I don't know why.
34:19If I had to take a guess,
34:20I feel like it's going to be Connor landing something from the outside.
34:24Nice and short.
34:25Straight down the middle.
34:27Take a warning for the back of the head.
34:29Take a warning for the back of the head.
34:31Take a warning for the back of the head.
34:34Lots of warnings going around.
34:38Maybe that could play a part.
34:41There's that sharp shot straight down the middle from Wallace.
34:45And a return shot with the right hand from Pampalone who goes again.
34:50And now he tries to work and work hard and the left hook misses.
34:54And Wallace smiles.
34:56It's not an adjustment for Pampalone.
34:58He's got to understand his range.
35:01He gets those big shots off and then he falls in.
35:04He gets tied up.
35:08Nice hook right there from Pampalone.
35:10He tries to find the right hand after it as well.
35:18Wallace uses his feet now.
35:22The right drive to the body from Pampalone as Wallace finds himself against the ropes
35:26but comes forward and covers out.
35:28We see him straight right to the body from Pampalone.
35:30We know a big overhand right is coming next.
35:35Jabbing is Wallace and moving too.
35:41One-two he goes Wallace.
35:49And again and he's happy to hang on straight after his work.
35:55A disciplined performance from Connor Wallace.
36:01Goal!
36:04He celebrates again.
36:08And now takes to his stool.
36:16Pampalone is starting to have some of that body language we saw in his fight with Malik Zinat
36:23when he just couldn't find the big shot he needed.
36:31We've got three to go.
36:32We need these three. We're doing good.
36:34But we've got to want it.
36:36They need the biggest beast I've ever heard of.
36:39We're doing it.
36:40These have to be front on and balanced and you need to get cranking.
36:43Don't wait. Let's go, motherfucker.
36:45Push through it.
36:52Great fight here and next up, this man.
36:55Pretty boy Michael Zarapa, the former world title challenger
36:59in what has turned into a grudge match against Tommy Brown.
37:03That's our co-main event and it is next here in Sydney.
37:07But it's all on the line here between Connor Wallace and Jerome Pampalone.
37:12This is round 10 of 12.
37:14Go, go, go.
37:21Pampalone.
37:24Well, he needs something big because Wallace is boxing better than ever.
37:34Pampalone is beating Wallace to the body in terms of the punch count to the body
37:39but he never exclusively went to the body with the intent to slow down Wallace
37:45which is why he still has his legs at this point.
37:53So some running repairs to the tape on the glove of Pampalone
37:58and he'll take some deep breaths and enjoy them.
38:02And the other glove.
38:08As Connor Wallace gets the Irish fans going and he's loving it.
38:13It's Connor Wallace and so are they.
38:18And he just gets told by his corner to settle down.
38:21Yeah, settle down.
38:22He was dancing there for a moment, probably not wise at this point.
38:25Yeah, you still got to be smart and play this thing all the way out.
38:32Man.
38:35He's still throwing some serious bombs at Pampalone.
38:38Yeah, but he gets too close and he gets wrapped up.
38:42You know, like that's just an adjustment that he has to have the awareness to make
38:48and also the coach hasn't given him that adjustment either.
38:54Big shot again and Wallace came straight back.
39:01Yeah.
39:06There's Wallace with his left hand and one and two he goes
39:10and there's more off the back of it.
39:13Body shot, Pampalone.
39:16But it is all trying to set up those big shots over the top.
39:21Look at that.
39:22The extra, you see the extra lean on.
39:25Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
39:28Stay there.
39:29He's smart.
39:32Very smart boxer, Connor Wallace.
39:40Beautiful feetwork as well.
39:45And he's happy to hang on, is Wallace, whenever he gets that chance
39:50when Pampalone gets inside and he's too close.
39:54Wallace fires off as Pampalone closed the gap.
40:05It's a little rough for these big guys.
40:09He's had a lot of work to do too.
40:11He's Ignatius Mussolini, he's our referee.
40:13He's been busy.
40:17And it's only going to get messier from here.
40:24Missing as he punches down there is Wallace.
40:27Ten seconds left in this round as the body shot comes from Pampalone.
40:36They tangle awkwardly and they head off to their stools again.
40:43With two rounds to play.
40:54Nice work.
40:55We're going really well, man.
40:57We've just got to stay disciplined and short.
40:59Long punches, but snappier.
41:01You know what I mean?
41:02Like, bam, bam, bam.
41:03Two rounds of snappiness, that's all we've got to do.
41:06Be confident with your jab, be confident,
41:08and then be confident with following it up with that left,
41:10straight down the pipe, alright?
41:12Without reaching over, turning those heads,
41:14and going, oh!
41:15Alright?
41:16Look for the uppercut, look for the body shot.
41:18Back to your frame, alright?
41:20Yeah.
41:23Keep your composure.
41:25Hey, Connor!
41:26Fix your own.
41:31And it's a very measured Fortitude Boxing Corner
41:37compared to what Jerome Pampalone is getting from Peach Boxing.
41:43So we're trying to fire him up.
41:46Fortitude, though, they want Wallace disciplined
41:51and continuing to box.
41:53They know what's in front of them.
41:57Some of that Vaseline goes into about throw eight.
42:01Well, any punch can do it, you know?
42:03And that's why you've got to stay focused.
42:05Can't overlook this and feel like, hey, I'm going to coast to the end.
42:09Got to keep it full on the gas pedal.
42:13Well, even at this stage here in round 11,
42:16on your scorecard, Jerome Pampalone leads a knockout.
42:20Yeah, I've given Pampalone only one round.
42:23I wouldn't be surprised if he's won two or three more
42:26than I've given him, but it's been a lot of close rounds.
42:32But in my opinion, he hasn't figured out a way
42:34to take control of this fight, let alone his opponent.
42:37Let it go, boys!
42:38Let it go, boys!
42:43Let it go!
42:46And Conor Wallace now sticking the tongue out
42:49and mocking Isaac Peach, who is furious.
42:53I will take a point off him.
42:55One point off if he can do it again.
43:01My dad used to do that, too.
43:03My dad used to yell at the guys that I was fighting.
43:05He's yelling at everyone, Isaac.
43:07He's a referee, the opponent.
43:09He yelled at the judge at one point, too.
43:14Did it help in your experience?
43:16Man, my dad has gotten some of my opponents flustered,
43:20especially in the amateurs.
43:21Not so much in the pros, but in the amateurs.
43:25Jerome Pampalone needs all the help he can get,
43:28and Isaac Peach, his trainer, is trying to give it to him.
43:32A methodical boxing performance
43:35from Conor Wallace at times,
43:37and at other times, he's needed to rely on his chin.
43:42And just the slightest pieces of head movement
43:45to get out of the way of some of these bombs.
43:53A tangle again, and it's Pampalone
43:55who hangs on on this occasion.
43:57That's the way, Jerome.
44:00Pick it up, though. Pick it up.
44:03Driving to the body, Pampalone,
44:05but we know that's not the shot that he wants.
44:07He wants something big over the top.
44:11They both got through.
44:16Yeah, we see him breaking the body.
44:17We know the next thing coming is a big overhand right.
44:21There's that right hand, and into the body
44:24goes Pampalone.
44:25Ten seconds left here in the second-last round
44:29of this all-important fight.
44:35Wallace re-evades and moves,
44:37and Pampalone has a chance.
44:41And Pampalone's got it.
44:42He's got it.
44:43He's got it.
44:44He's got it.
44:45He's got it.
44:46He's got it.
44:47He's got it.
44:48He re-evades and moves, and Pampalone
44:50hasn't found the shot that he needs.
44:55Not yet.
44:58We're going to win this last round for us, all right?
45:00We're winning all the rounds, I believe.
45:02This round, I really want to see a real improvement
45:05of just staying more disciplined.
45:06Jab, jab, jab, left, jab, jab.
45:08He's going to come out with a lot of aggression, I believe,
45:11to try and pull you up.
45:13You can't get lazy on this rope with the ref.
45:15You're on fine line now with him, all right?
45:22That might be the understatement of the night.
45:24He's going to come out with a lot of aggression.
45:26I think that is a fair assumption.
45:28Jerome Pampalone is going to come out here
45:31and try to knock Connor Wallace out
45:34because he absolutely needs to.
45:36As Isaac Peach continues his one-man war
45:40against the officials,
45:43111 punches apiece have landed
45:48throughout what has been a fascinating contest,
45:51and we have three minutes remaining
45:54with the Kiwi Jerome Pampalone
45:57needing something monstrous
46:00to stop what has been an exquisite boxing performance
46:03by the big, rangy Southpaw, Connor Wallace,
46:06originally from Northern Ireland,
46:09now calling Brisbane home,
46:11and perhaps about to win through
46:14to the number two position in the IBF at Light Heavyweight,
46:17one of the glamour divisions in global boxing.
46:25Pampalone...
46:28ducks forward,
46:30and you know what he's trying to do.
46:33There's a shot, but...
46:37The feet nearly went from under Pampalone for a moment,
46:41and it's Wallace now who comes forward with big shots,
46:44and he just slams to his knees as they tangle.
46:49Furious stuff here.
46:51Both fighters throwing themselves
46:53at each other at all angles.
46:55Right hands are good,
46:57and a left hook, too, from Pampalone.
46:59Here he goes.
47:00Wallace marches forward and covers up.
47:05He's happy to be involved in a scrap like this.
47:11He digs into the body, too,
47:12as Pampalone reaches over the top.
47:17Pampalone...
47:20He digs into the body, too,
47:21as Pampalone reaches over the top.
47:28Whoa, right hand from Pampalone.
47:31Man.
47:34Still plenty on these from Pampalone.
47:41Good body shot from Pampalone.
47:47You know, this man is fighting
47:48with some true desperation.
47:49You can see it.
47:51He's got a minute.
47:54He tosses out the right hand again.
47:56He gets around the back of the head of Connor Wallace,
47:59who scores on the inside.
48:06Wallace moving and jabbing and using the ring
48:10and staying long as Pampalone leaps out again.
48:14Pretty smooth for Connor Wallace.
48:16You know, to be at the end of this fight,
48:18understanding that he swept it,
48:20no need for him to force anything
48:22because he'll put himself in harm's way.
48:24He's taking whatever,
48:25he's letting his clock tick down.
48:28Yeah, well, 20 seconds is all that remains here
48:31for Jerome Pampalone.
48:33He's desperate, and he is dangerous,
48:37but he needs something destructive here.
48:40With 10 seconds left in the title eliminator,
48:44Connor Wallace has boxed beautifully.
48:47He's shown incredible discipline,
48:52and it looks like he's had the moment of his boxing career.
49:00Isaac Peach, he raises his fighter,
49:03Jerome Pampalone, who was so brave,
49:08but the Irish celebrations look set to begin.
49:16Connor Wallace, the performance of his life.
49:20There were plenty who said he was mad.
49:24He's ranked across the board at light heavyweight
49:26in the top 10 with all four of the sanctioning bodies.
49:30He risked it all against a big banger in Paris,
49:35against a big banger in Pampalone,
49:38but, gee, he was impressive, Shawn Porter.
49:41You can honestly say Pampalone did what he does,
49:44loaded up with every punch that he could,
49:46threw the big ones, landed some of them, missed some of them,
49:49but Connor Wallace stayed focused, he stayed sharp,
49:52used his feet when he needed to,
49:54fast hands from the outside like that right there,
49:57one-twos right down the middle.
50:00Just like that, Wallace walked away with this one.
50:04It was a brilliant boxing performance
50:06because he was in the fire against that man,
50:09Jerome Pampalone, who did not slow down.
50:12He threw himself into every single shot
50:17and he connected with plenty as well,
50:19but Irish eyes are smiling here in Sydney
50:24because Connor Wallace is on to bigger and better things.
50:31And with Bedebiev and Bivol set to fight
50:37for all of the belts in the division in October,
50:40perhaps that man finds himself into one corner
50:44against one of those at some stage
50:47in the not-too-distant future.
50:49Let's find out the scores from these judges.
50:52Here's Lieutenant Dan.
50:54Fighters to the center ring, please.
51:00Ladies and gentlemen, can we please have a round of applause
51:14for these two light heavyweight warriors.
51:17After 12 rounds of action, we go to the judges' scorecards
51:26for a decision where we find a split decision winner.
51:29Adam Hite scores the competition 116-112.
51:35Wallace calls the competition 115-113 Pampalone.
51:44And Christopher Condon scores the competition 116-112
51:50for your winner by split decision,
51:53fighting out of the blue corner,
51:57Connor Wallace!
