Google Pixel 9 & 9 Pro XL Unboxing
Transcript
00:00Hey everyone, Tim Schofield here.
00:02And in California, Google unveiled a lineup
00:05of Pixel 9 products, even a new watch,
00:07new earbuds as well, including the Pixel 9.
00:12Now this is their base model of their lineup.
00:14And even though it's their base model,
00:15the Pixel 9 still has their latest Tensor G4 chipset
00:19that all the Pro models have as well.
00:21Speaking of, I did just unbox the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL.
00:25I will link to that video down below if you missed it.
00:27Also, their new fold, the Pixel 9 Pro fold,
00:30that video is coming very soon.
00:31I'm excited for you to see it.
00:32So be sure to subscribe so you're notified
00:34when that video goes live.
00:35Anyways, in this video, we're gonna do a quick unboxing
00:38of the Pixel 9, see what we get in the box,
00:40and then put them side-by-side with the Pixel 9 Pro,
00:43just about the same size, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL,
00:46so you can sort of compare, contrast.
00:48I'm gonna talk about the differences between these phones.
00:51Also, I will link to the best deals, trade-in deals,
00:53for the Pixel 9 lineup down in the description
00:56if you're interested.
00:57Let's get started.
00:58Also, expect some camera comparison shots,
01:00not just photos, but videos as well,
01:02especially with that telephoto lens,
01:04because that's the difference.
01:05The packaging this year is just a little bit different
01:07with a couple tabs on the sides, and just slide it on out.
01:11Inside the box, up towards the top,
01:13we just have our standard booklets and SIM ejection tool.
01:16Setting our phone to the side
01:17with that new camera bar design.
01:19Last but not least in the box is a USB Type-C
01:22to USB Type-C cable.
01:23On the front, just gives you information
01:24about where everything is, and sliding it out,
01:27here is a first look at that porcelain color,
01:30a more glossy back on the Pixel 9.
01:32While it boots up, let's take a closer look
01:34at the hardware down at the bottom.
01:35You've got a speaker, USB Type-C port,
01:37microphone, and our SIM card slot,
01:39which has a slight curve to the side.
01:42Along the right side, you've got your volume rockers
01:44and power button right above it.
01:45Notice the sides are more matte,
01:47so flipped between the Pro model.
01:49Make note of that camera bump up towards the top.
01:51You've got a microphone,
01:53and I believe our ultra wide band antenna.
01:57And then along the left side, just more antennas.
02:00Close look at the back, just a slight G for some branding,
02:04and we have our dual camera system.
02:06You get a 50 megapixel wide angle lens
02:08and a 48 megapixel ultra wide angle lens with macro focus.
02:13Now you don't get a telephoto lens like the Pro,
02:15but we will test all of these out in just a second.
02:17Anyways, I'm gonna run through the startup process,
02:19talk about anything that's noteworthy.
02:20First things first,
02:21this is a new ultrasonic fingerprint scanner,
02:24so setting our thumb down, getting that all set up,
02:27and I have to say, it is much improved.
02:29And Face Unlock, which does work with your secure apps
02:32like banking apps, you can get that set up
02:34and you can use both at the same time.
02:36The regular 9 does have Google's AI built in,
02:38Gemini, AdMe, screenshots, all of those new features.
02:42Also car crash detection and Pixel Satellite SOS.
02:46Highly recommend turning on instant translations
02:49and identifying music around you.
02:51Now playing is amazing.
02:52They're all set up and ready to go
02:53with that 6.3 inch Actua display,
02:56which is an OLED screen at 1080p resolution.
03:00It does go all the way up to 120 Hertz.
03:02However, this is where our differences start.
03:05Oh, and just to show you how quick it is,
03:07I'm too excited to test it out.
03:08This is the new ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
03:10It's almost instant.
03:11It's really accurate.
03:12I'm happy they included it.
03:14As promised, a quick side-by-side of the hardware
03:16of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro.
03:18You'll notice right away that glossy back
03:21as opposed to a matte back on the 9 Pro.
03:24And then it sort of flip-flops.
03:25You've got more of matte rails on the 9
03:28and glossy rails on the 9 Pro.
03:30You also notice a missing camera lens.
03:33The 9 does not include that telephoto lens.
03:35It's the same two main and ultra wide cameras,
03:38but unfortunately is missing the telephoto.
03:40So you're gonna get better zoom shots out of the Pro lineup.
03:43And since it has the same screen size, 6.3 inches,
03:45it's going to be a very similar
03:47in terms of size difference between the 9 and the 9 Pro XL.
03:51So just showing those off side-by-side
03:53just for a quick comparison.
03:55We'll show the screens in just a second.
03:56On the Pro models below the flash is a temperature sensor.
04:00So you can check the temperature of objects, even yourself.
04:03The Pixel 9 doesn't have that.
04:04And also a difference in focus.
04:07This has single zone autofocus.
04:09This one has multi-zone.
04:10So expect autofocus to be more accurate on the Pro models.
04:14The display does have some differences.
04:172700 nits versus 3000 nits of peak brightness.
04:20So the Pros will get a little bit brighter.
04:22And screen resolution difference.
04:23You get a higher resolution on the Pro
04:25and you can even customize the resolution.
04:28You can turn it down on the Pro models,
04:30which will help save battery life.
04:31I like to use the full resolution,
04:34but also want to talk about smooth display.
04:35Both go up to 120 Hertz.
04:38Both look really smooth.
04:40However, the 9 only goes down to 60 Hertz.
04:43So between 60 and 120,
04:44whereas the Pro is between one and 120.
04:47So it will help save battery life,
04:49especially when you have static content
04:51like an always on display.
04:53By the way, that front facing camera is updated on the Pro.
04:56You get a 10 and a half megapixel on the 9
04:58and the 9 Pro is a 42 megapixel.
05:00We'll compare these.
05:01Going into the camera app,
05:02you'll already notice some differences.
05:04First of all, the 5X shortcut on the Pro model.
05:07You do get a 2X shortcut.
05:09We'll test and compare these two out in just a second.
05:12There are, however, other differences in the camera.
05:15So if you go into settings on the 9,
05:17you get brightness, shadow, and white balance.
05:19But on the Pro, you can change your focus,
05:22your shutter speed, and your ISO.
05:25And you'll see they're all listed up towards the top.
05:27So more Pro controls on the Pro model.
05:30And even if you swipe up and get into settings,
05:33you'll notice there's a Pro section
05:35where you can change to 50 megapixels
05:38and change between JPEG, RAW,
05:40and even the lens selection.
05:42Another difference is the resolution of the video.
05:46You can shoot up to 4K on the Pixel 9,
05:49but on the Pro, you actually can go up to 8K,
05:53which is how they upscale it.
05:55It actually takes some time to upscale it.
05:57So we'll actually go out and test this out.
06:00But be sure to give this video a thumbs up.
06:03Check out this weather right now.
06:04It is 108, it feels like 108 degrees out there.
06:08So yeah, be sure to subscribe
06:09and give this a thumbs up for that.
06:12So we'll start by filming with the front-facing camera
06:15in 4K resolution.
06:16You should notice a video quality difference.
06:19I'll go back and forth with the microphones,
06:21but I'm assuming the microphones are the exact same.
06:24So just a quick test there.
06:25And now a test of the rear camera in 4K
06:29of the 5X lens moving along,
06:32just so you can see the detail, the stabilization of these.
06:36I'm trying to focus on the same subject
06:38so you can get a equal comparison of both.
06:41The 9 actually zooms up to seven times,
06:44and here's just a comparison of that.
06:47On the screen, there is a noticeable difference
06:50in the quality of these shots.
06:52Now here's a quick comparison of the 4K main lens
06:57and the 8K on the Pro.
06:59Again, it takes some time for the boosting
07:01to actually happen.
07:02It's software upscaling.
07:04You can actually use the 5X lens on the Pro as well
07:08to shoot in 8K if you'd like to.
07:10But here's just a quick example.
07:12I'm walking, now I'm gonna stop, pan just a little bit,
07:16just so you can see if there is that much
07:18of a quality difference after it upscales it using software.
07:22Anyways, I also went around and just took a bunch
07:24of pictures with the 5X zoom on both phones,
07:27obviously digital with the regular 9,
07:29but keep in mind, anything over 5X
07:32will also be significantly better on the Pro models
07:35in terms of zoom quality.
07:38So this is 5X side by side.
07:40I'm not gonna lie, the Pixel 9 actually did
07:42a really good job still with their 5X lens,
07:45but lower light, you're definitely going
07:47to start noticing more of a difference
07:50in terms of the quality.
07:52And there's that selfie comparison.
07:53On the very hot day, I did notice the Pixel 9 Pro
07:57has a bit of a wider angle lens
07:58with the front-facing camera,
08:00so you can get a little bit more in your shot
08:02with your selfie camera.
08:04While both of these have the Tensor G4 chip,
08:07the Pro models actually have a vapor chamber cooling system,
08:10so a sustained cooling system
08:12for those longer gaming sessions,
08:14which will help keep the phone cooler
08:16and your battery lasts a little bit longer.
08:17The Pixel 9 has 12 gigs of RAM
08:19and the Pro model has 16 gigs of RAM.
08:22However, the Pro model has a dedicated AI RAM partition,
08:25which uses up some of that 16 gigs,
08:28but again, that's really nice
08:29because the AI should be a little bit snappier
08:31on the Pro models.
08:32Anyways, that is it from me on the comparison
08:35between the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and why not?
08:38Let's grab that Pixel 9 Pro XL.
08:41But anyways, a lot more to come on these phones,
08:42so be sure to click that subscribe button.
08:44Be sure to follow me on various social media.
08:46I'll link to it down below.
08:47Be sure to give this video a thumbs up.
08:49And as always, thanks for watching.
