00:00Concerns over proposed temporary changes to local health services by Powys Teaching Health Board
00:05continued last night in Llandrindod, Wales, after more concerns were raised in Brecon the night before.
00:10Residents from Llandrindod and other areas such as Newradna and Biltwelds gathered at the pavilion, Mid Wales,
00:16to take part in a public consultation with members from the health board.
00:20Both Jane Dodds, MS, and David Chadwick, MP, were in attendance and have called for a pause to the proposals.
00:27Chief Executive Hayley Thomas said that Brecon's MIU sees on average 1.4 patients per night and Llandrindod's just 1.9.
00:35Brecon's MIU had to close 50 times between January and May because of staffing issues.
00:41Many concerned residents were in attendance, with one saying,
00:44I'm very angry. Our MIUs are being shortened. Is it bashing the old to get rid of us? Is that what they're up to?
00:51Unless you keep a decent health system in this sparsely populated county,
00:55they're all going to be dropping off like flies.
00:58I hope you're happy with that.
00:59Councillor Jamie Jones said all we're seeing is a decline in services,
01:03while another resident said that MIU units do not need to be reduced.
01:08They need to be improved. Ending the consultation, which took just under two hours,
01:12it was established that the proposed small-scale changes have generated a lot of response
01:17and that the health board will listen to the concerns. For the full story, read the article below.
