00:00Does Gambit have a future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
00:04Deadpool and Wolverine left fans wondering about the beloved X-Man's fate, but a deleted
00:08scene reveals whether or not another appearance for Remy Lebeau is in the cards.
00:13Alongside Wesley Snipes-Blade and Jennifer Garner's Elektra, Channing Tatum's Gambit shows
00:17up in Deadpool and Wolverine to help the heroes take on the evil Cassandra Nova and her army of
00:22villains. It's an especially crowd-pleasing appearance, considering how the Jump Street
00:27star never got the chance to make the Gambit solo movie that he'd always dreamed of.
00:31Now, all these years later, Tatum's version of Remy Lebeau is even more
00:35hilarious than Marvel fans had hoped he would be.
00:38I'm about to make a name for myself, yeah."
00:40That said, the ending of Deadpool and Wolverine leaves things ambiguous for the fan-favorite X-Man.
00:46While Blade and company are unpruned and sent back to their respective universes by the Time
00:50Variance Authority at the end of the movie, whatever happens to Gambit isn't explicitly
00:55shown as a major part of the movie. Fans of the character have been understandably worried about
01:00his future, but a clip shared by Ryan Reynolds himself confirms whether or not there's any
01:04chance of seeing Tatum in the trench coats and cowl again. This scene, which Reynolds posted
01:09on Instagram, shows the laconic hero walking through a scene of fallen bodies, indicating
01:14that he must have kicked some additional butt offscreen during the dramatic showdown between
01:18good and evil. He looks into the distance and smiles, suggesting that he's about to return to
01:23his home world, or maybe even heading to the Prime timeline. This appears to be the same
01:28scene that is played on one of the monitors at the TVA in the post-credits scene. That's good
01:32news for fans, and it leaves the door open for Tatum to reprise the role of Gambit in the MCU
01:38down the line. That said, what are the chances of that ever happening? Lots of people would love to
01:42see this particular version of Gambit go on an adventure of his own someday, Tatum himself most
01:47of all. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor was brutally
01:52honest about the lengths he would go to in order to make it a reality.
01:57"...I would kill kittens to make, uh, I would do lots of terrible things to make that happen."
02:05Even though Marvel was never willing to take a chance on Gambit,
02:08Ryan Reynolds was. Tatum has been sure to express his gratitude to Reynolds for
02:12finally giving him the chance to portray his favorite superhero. As he wrote on social media,
02:17"...there is almost no one that has had my back in this industry more than Ryan Reynolds.
02:21I thought I had lost Gambit forever, but he fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably
02:26forever, cuz I'm not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this was
02:30meant to me." Needless to say, the Magic Mike star has made it clear that he'd like to pick
02:35up the playing cards once again down the line. As it stands, the power lies in Marvel's hands,
02:40and it remains to be seen whether or not Kevin Feige and his crew have future plans for Gambit.
02:45Still, Deadpool and Wolverine has given the character an important stepping stone
02:49into the MCU. With the massive, multiversal event Avengers Secret Wars scheduled to hit
02:54theaters in 2027, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Tatum on what will definitely be a historically
03:00massive cast list. As far as a solo Gambit movie goes, Reynolds has personally offered
03:05to reprise his role as the Merc with a Mouth if it were to actually come to fruition. That
03:09probably sounds pretty appealing to Marvel's head honchos, given that Deadpool and Wolverine
03:13managed to break records at the box office. It's impossible to say for sure what the future has
03:18in store for Tatum's Remy Lebeau, but the fact that he's survived his debut appearance is
03:22definitely a step in the right direction.
