England's new interim coach Lee Carsley has announced his squad ahead of fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland. Speaking at his first press conference as interim manager, he said: "We've got some really exciting attacking players. It's great that we wanna be seen as an attacking team but from the summer's point of view, we went through the whole tournament and didn't concede a goal and that was a testament to the defenders as well." 00:00We've got some really exciting attacking players, so if you can get players in positions where
00:06they're very strong, they give people a chance to showcase their ability, that's a big thing.
00:14You'd have seen in the summer, we had to be quite creative with the way that we played
00:18because we had a lack of players in certain positions, so the position on the pitch is
00:23just as important in terms of getting players into areas where they can be creative and
00:28create chances and attack, but the opposite to that is understanding that you've got to
00:32dominate your opponent in and out of possession, that's a really big thing. It's great that
00:38we want to be seen as an attacking team, but from the summer's point of view, we went through
00:43the whole tournament and didn't concede a goal, which was testament to the defenders
00:46as well and the way that they defended their own box, so playing to the players' strengths
00:50would be a big part of the philosophy.
