Richard Hall says the Minor Injuries Unit in Breconshire War Memorial Hospital saved the life of his friend, Andrew Powell.

00:00Which realistically, people said, you shouldn't have taken him to the minor injuries committee.
00:05He should have gone to an A&E department.
00:08Well, I was fully aware of that, as some of you were.
00:11The men wrote to Aberdeen ambulance service.
00:14The men wrote to De Merthyr ambulance service.
00:17And I was told to call an ambulance.
00:20I phoned the ambulance. I asked them how long they were going to be away.
00:24We don't know.
00:26So, two road stops, no ambulance there.
00:29They then told me to just pull over and wait in a lane by.
00:34Andrew doesn't mind. He's a disciplined, natural person.
00:39Andrew lost his eyesight in my car within two miles of getting in my car.
00:43He then became unconscious several times on the way to hospital.
00:48There's no grey area there.
00:51The MIU saved Andrew's life.

00:57But, if I waited for an ambulance which showed up 15 minutes later, Andrew would not be here.

01:05Can we afford to lose that sort of level of service?
01:08The answer is no.
01:10We're a rural community and we must protect what we've got.
