00:00Liverpool Cathedral is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a unique
00:04exhibition by the legendary British Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor. Kapoor has
00:09captivated the art world for over four decades and now he's brought his
00:13visionary works to the heart of the city. The show is titled Monadic Singularity.
00:17The title is taken from one of the work which is in the show, which is the
00:23artwork behind me, and it's titled Sectional Bodies Preparing for Monadic
00:28Singularity. This exhibition marks Kapoor's first solo show in a UK Cathedral
00:32and his major solo exhibition in Liverpool since his seminal 1983 exhibit
00:38at the Walker Art Gallery. The show is about the notion, the idea of the origin,
00:46so it's about the maternal, the visceral, the corporeal. Featuring works spanning the
00:53past 25 years including architecturally scaled works never before seen in the UK
00:57this exhibition offers the opportunity to experience a selection of Kapoor's
01:02monumental works in dialogue with the incredible cathedral's gothic
01:05architecture. Having these works in the context of the cathedral where
01:12significant moments in life such as births and deaths are celebrated can provide a
01:19different experience of these artworks. In an era where digital distractions
01:24abound Kapoor's artwork invites audiences to pause, reflect and connect
01:29with deeper spiritual dimensions. So the cathedral especially over the past five
01:35years or so has increasingly hosted great exhibitions and installations so
01:43it's also really an honour to have this body of works by Anish Kapoor.
01:50This landmark show is a highlight in Liverpool Cathedral's year-long
01:54centenary celebrations commemorating its consecration in 1924.
