00:00The Gallagher brothers have buried the hatchet, Oasis announcing they're reuniting for the
00:06first time in 15 years.
00:09You may recall their spectacular fallout before a concert in Paris back in 2009.
00:18Nolan Liam Gallagher, who will be touring Britain and Ireland, Alana D'Souza has more.
00:25I know my brother better than anybody else.
00:28When both come together, you have greatness.
00:31After a 15-year hiatus, Oasis is making a comeback.
00:37The British band announcing a 14-date tour due to begin in July 2025.
00:44The news effectively ends a 15-year feud between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher.
00:50I ain't holding it up.
00:52I'd do Oasis tomorrow, but he wants to be the man in charge.
00:57He wants to be the main man who's doing it, and that's one thing I'm not.
01:00I'm not a yes-man.
01:01The Gallagher brothers, as well as the official Oasis account, began teasing their upcoming
01:06return on social media late Sunday, leading to wide speculation the rock legends were
01:11reuniting.
01:13Oasis burst onto the scene 30 years ago with their debut album Definitely Maybe.
01:18The band became part of the so-called Britpop era with hit songs including Wonderwall and
01:23Don't Look Back in Anger.
01:26While the Gallagher brothers haven't performed together since their split, Oasis tracks are
01:31played at their solo gigs.
01:34Tuesday's announcement will be welcome news for fans who've been waiting for the pair
01:38to reunite.
01:40According to industry insiders, the concerts are set to be one of the hottest tickets of
01:44the decade, and plans are already in the works to schedule dates outside Europe later
01:49next year.
01:50Tickets for the upcoming tour are set to go on sale from Saturday.
01:55And for more, we can cross to French rock critic Nico Prat, music journalist, author
02:01of the book in French, Oasis or Revenge of the Hicks.
02:06I guess that's how you translate it.
02:08Thanks for being with us.
02:09That's it.
02:10Thank you very much for having me.
02:12So, first of all, is it a risk buying a ticket for an Oasis concert?
02:18Because many people I know here in Paris were at that festival in 2009 and couldn't believe
02:24it when they never showed up on stage.
02:26Yeah, so was I.
02:28It's always a risk to buy an Oasis ticket, but it used to be at the very beginning of
02:33the story of the band.
02:35So obviously there are a lot of jokes on X or Facebook saying you have to buy for the
02:40first time in your life the insurance on your ticket.
02:44But yeah, apparently the reunion came as a massive surprise, even for the biggest fans
02:51of the band.
02:52And I'm pretty sure that at least the very first gigs that were announced in England
02:57this summer, I'm pretty confident that they will play.
03:01No worries about this one, I guess.
03:03What's it all about?
03:04Let's cut to the chase here, Nico.
03:05Is it about money?
03:08Every reunion, every band reforming is at least at one point about money.
03:14Let's face it, it's not a bad reason to reform a band.
03:18But I guess in the case of Oasis, obviously Noel Gallagher wrote Wonderwall, so I'm pretty
03:24sure that it's not all about the money.
03:27I think it's about claiming the throne that they left 15 years ago.
03:32I think it's about playing in huge, huge arenas that they couldn't play with their solo acts.
03:42So it's about money, but it's not just all about money.
03:45Yeah, we'd be more reassured if they'd staged a press conference together, but we haven't
03:49seen them appearing in the same room at the same time yet.
03:53Nico, let me ask you, do you expect them to make more music together, to write new songs?
04:01Well, it's very, very early to tell.
04:04I guess it will depend on how the gigs go, if they still can talk to each other after
04:10five, six, seven, eight gigs.
04:13One thing is for sure, is that Liam Gallagher had, like in the last years, a massive resurgence
04:21in his career.
04:22And Noel Gallagher maybe has a little less success than he used to have, but Noel is
04:29writing a lot of songs and Liam is still willing to sing a lot of songs from Noel.
04:34So everything could happen.
04:36Let me tell you, I didn't believe a reunion could happen like three days ago.
04:42So obviously a new album could happen.
04:45Nico Prat is delighted.
04:46So are fans of Oasis, who were interviewed on the streets of London in the neighbourhood
04:52of Camden.
04:53Let's take a listen.
04:55Oasis, the influence it's had on Camden, it's ingrained.
05:01Oasis is ingrained in Camden, as well as many other bands are.
05:05It's just the music hub.
05:07We have so many Oasis fans into the shop, into the market.
05:13I think everyone feels the same, just elated that Oasis are going to be back together.
05:19I just thought it would never happen, to be honest.
05:21Just over the years, they've always said they would never get back together.
05:24And then suddenly it's just happened out of nowhere.
05:26So hopefully we're going to play Glastonbury as well.
05:28So we might manage to get to Glastonbury hopefully next year as well.
05:31Well, I imagine if they're going on a tour for that long, they will be.
05:38There'll probably be a punch up or two.
05:41Nico Prat, that's Camden.
05:43Imagine Manchester.
05:45Yeah, what they're doing this summer is basically homecoming gigs.
05:50They're playing where they feel like they're at home.
05:53Obviously in Manchester, the cult of Oasis never stopped existing.
06:01But yeah, hopefully we'll see them in Paris.
06:04Yeah, for now it's just Britain and Ireland.
06:08Where do you put them in the pantheon when you think of the groups of that age?
06:13Blur, Radiohead?
06:16Well, Oasis is different.
06:19They were always the band of the people in a way.
06:22I feel like obviously they're everywhere still.
06:25Wonderwall just passed like one billion listening on Spotify.
06:30So their influence is still very, very, very massive.
06:34And as we saw with Blur in the last month, they could release an album.
06:39They could tour.
06:40And obviously they could do a lot of festivals.
06:42And many, many, many people would show up.
06:44So yeah, I think they're really, really, really up there with Radiohead and Blur.
06:49Nico Pratt, the author of Oasis ou la revanche des ploucs, or The Revenge of the Hicks.
06:57The book is in French.
06:58Thanks so much for being with us here on France 24.
07:03Stay with us.
07:04There's more to come.
07:05More news plus the day's business and sports.
