The word "cop" isn't written all over him—something more puzzling is.

Senator Walter Chalmers is aiming to take down mob boss Pete Ross with the help of testimony from the criminal's hothead brother Johnny, who is in protective custody in San Francisco under the watch of police lieutenant Frank Bullitt. When a pair of mob hitmen enter the scene, Bullitt follows their trail through a maze of complications and double-crosses. This thriller includes one of the most famous car chases ever filmed.

00:30Detective Lieutenant Frank Bullitt, some other kind of cop.
00:44Pity the guy he works for.
00:46Lieutenant, don't try to evade the responsibility.
00:50In your parlance, you blew it.
00:54What the hell is going on here?
00:56A high-speed pursuit?
00:58Two men are killed?
00:59An officer in the hospital?
01:00A witness almost murdered?
01:03Captain Baker would like to have a word with you.
01:09Now listen to me, Lieutenant.
01:12All right, nail him.
01:15I want him written off.
01:16Do you let anything reach you?
01:18I mean really reach you?
01:22Or are you so used to it by now that nothing really touches you?
01:25You're living in a sewer, Frank, day after day.
01:30With you, living with violence is a way of life, living with violence and death.
01:44The way Frank Bullitt's swinging, you know he's heading for a crash with that wall of
01:48official disapproval.
01:49But when some rare Chicago blood starts spilling in San Francisco, they hand Bullitt the mop.
02:02Now what went wrong, Lieutenant?
02:05Who else knew where he was?
02:07What?
02:08Who else knew where he was?
02:12What do you imply?
02:13Well, they knew where to look for him and they used your name to get in.
02:17Are you suggesting I disclosed his whereabouts?
02:20You believe what you want.
02:22You work your side of the street and I'll work mine.
