00:00The month of August is full of thunderstorms where I live, which inspired this video topic.
00:10Thunderstorms evoke a certain emotion for me, as I used to love watching thunderstorms
00:13with my grandfather.
00:15Fragrance is something else that's very powerful in evoking emotions and memories.
00:19My grandfather had a very distinguishable scent that I still remember to this day.
00:23Through Scentbird, I've found many fragrances which I use daily, one of which being Kinetic
00:28by Toomey, a fragrance that reminds me of my grandfather and evokes positive memories
00:32for me, with the scent mixing the aromas of Italian Mandarin, Sandalwood, and Vanilla.
00:37Scentbird is a monthly cologne and perfume subscription service that lets you discover
00:41over 700 designer fragrances without committing to a giant, expensive bottle, which also lets
00:46you try a new fragrance every month to switch things up.
00:49Another one of my favorites is Cross River Gorilla, which has a scent that mixes the
00:52aromas of Cardamom, Green Apple, Violet Leaf, and Smoked Leather, rated as a casual scent
00:57perfect for the fall season.
00:59What I love about Scentbird is the affordability.
01:02The vials are cheaper than a lot of the rollerballs or travel sizes at the store.
01:06Scentbird carries some of the finest fragrances, like Gucci, Prada, and Versace, and delivers
01:10them right to your door.
01:12You get to try the first fragrance from Scentbird for only $8, and your next month will be only
01:16$16.95.

01:33I was at a ripe young age where being left home alone was exciting.
01:36I was like 13, and my parents had just recently started entrusting me to be home alone overnight.
01:42The only condition was I couldn't leave the house or have anyone over, but I was fine
01:46with that.
01:48Something about being able to blast my music or video games without my dad yelling at me
01:51was just exhilarating.
01:54To make things even better, it was a rainy night which turned into a thunderstorm.
01:58I sat outside under the awning for a while watching the thunderstorm as I like to do.
02:03I've always loved thunderstorms, as they just make staying in so much more cozy.
02:08After a while of watching the storm, I moved my Xbox from my room to the downstairs den
02:13TV.
02:14It was my dad's huge flat screen TV with the Bose sound system.
02:18The only time I'd get to game on there was when I was home alone, and I loved it.
02:22The den was a half flight of stairs down from the living room level, and it was level with
02:26the backyard, so the backyard door was in the den.
02:29I'm describing the house in past tense because I moved out, but my parents do still live
02:33there.
02:34So I was playing Black Ops down in the den with the volume blasting.
02:38I was playing online multiplayer in a party with my friend Cody.
02:42I had some crappy old headset, which the only audio you could hear was other people
02:46in the lobby and game talking.
02:48For a 13-year-old standard, it was the perfect night, until something interrupted my peace.
02:54The sound of the doorbell.
02:56It was past 9 o'clock by then.
02:59I told Cody the doorbell rang, and he said I should go check and see who it was.
03:03I wondered if maybe it was my parents back home early, but they had the keys, so they
03:08wouldn't ring the doorbell.
03:10I hid in a spot in the game where I wouldn't get killed.
03:12Then I went upstairs to the front door, asking who's there.
03:16I didn't realize how much of a mistake that would be.
03:19A male's voice on the other side said, I need to use a phone.
03:22I didn't know what to do, so I didn't answer and went back downstairs, but it was too late.
03:28The damage was done, and I let whoever was out there know I was home.
03:34I told Cody about it, and his reaction was simply, yo what the fuck.
03:38He agreed with me that I shouldn't open the door, but the doorbell rang again.
03:43Cody said to ignore it.
03:44That was the last time I heard the doorbell, and after a while, I relaxed again, as it
03:49seemed whoever was out there had left.
03:51I can't explain the rollercoaster of emotions I felt that night.
03:55One moment I'm on edge, the next, I'm relaxed and back into the fantasy world of my game.
04:00And then, as I was most at ease, I heard something to my right, and when I looked, I saw the
04:06back door closing, and some tall man stepping inside.
04:09It was not my dad.
04:11It was a stranger.
04:13I dropped the controller and ran for the office door, and the cord to the headset quickly
04:16ripped out of the controller.
04:18I made it to the office and slammed the door shut, and I'm by no means exaggerating when
04:22I say the second after I locked the door, the door handle aggressively shook as the
04:26man on the other side tried opening the door.
04:29The office had two doors in it, one that led to the den, and one that led to the garage.
04:34My only chance to escape the house was to go through the garage, but before even moving,
04:40I just stood still, waiting for something to happen on the other side of the door.
04:45Seconds felt like minutes.
04:48The man knocked on the door and said,
04:50Little boy, I just need to use your phone, I was stranded out in the rain.
04:54His knocks turned to pounds as his voice got louder and angrier sounding.
04:59It gradually turned to yelling and pounding.
05:01He yelled, open the fucking door you little shit, as it sounded like he was literally
05:05trying to break down the door.
05:07I had no choice but to go through the garage.
05:10I pressed the button to open the garage door, and it was so loud and slow to open that I
05:14prayed the man couldn't hear it.
05:16As soon as it was up about halfway, I crawled under and ran through the storm a few doors
05:21down to our neighbor Julian's house, who I knew well because I used to play with his
05:24dog Copper when I was little.
05:27I heard Copper barking as I rang the bell, looking back in my house, hoping not to see
05:31someone coming down the block.
05:33Julian opened the door, and I ran into his arms, begging him for help, as his wife came
05:37out of the kitchen in confusion.
05:40When I told them of the break-in, their demeanors instantly changed.
05:44Julian got the police on the phone and handled getting them to my parents' house.
05:48It was a long, long wait before the police were outside, and Steve and I went out to
05:52them.
05:53I told them the same thing I told Steve, and after they asked which door was unlocked,
05:58I said the garage.
06:00A couple of them went through the garage into the house, and after maybe five minutes, they
06:04came outside with a man in handcuffs.
06:06They made sure he didn't see my face.
06:09After he was in a police car, they asked me if I knew that man, and I said no, of course
06:13I don't know that man.
06:15He had been telling the officers that this was his house and that I was his son.
06:19I could tell he was drunk or high or just generally crazy based on the things he was
06:23yelling and the way he was acting.
06:25He was brought to jail, and my parents had to be contacted regarding how they wished
06:29to proceed, and they pressed charges.
06:32His name was John McCarty.
06:34He got charged for, I believe, criminal trespass.
06:37It didn't make me feel any safer that that man would one day be out and know where I
06:41lived.
06:42Thankfully, it was just a random chance encounter.
06:45I don't believe he specifically targeted me or our house, so whenever he was released,
06:50he didn't come back.
07:00I never thought in a million years that anything truly horrific would ever happen to me.
07:05I'm an average person with a boring enough life that anything out of the ordinary was
07:09really out of the ordinary.
07:12This is why I was always okay with watching or listening to those creepypasta and true
07:16horror stories on YouTube.
07:17I still do watch them often, but after my own experience, these stories scare me in
07:22a whole new way.
07:23It was late at night, I'd say around 4am, but I don't really know for sure, and everyone
07:28else in my house was asleep, my mother and both of my grandparents.
07:32For the past two months or so, we get at least one major thunderstorm per week, and it just
07:37so happened that this one decided to start earlier that night.
07:41Now I always enjoy a good thunderstorm, especially at night when you can go sit by a window and
07:45just watch the lightning, but something about the wind of them always creeped me out, maybe
07:50the fact that it could be soft or deafening and switch between the two almost instantly.
07:55For some reason, wind has always given me huge creeps.
07:59Now this night's thunderstorm was one of the worst we'd had in a long time.
08:03It sounded like rocks were hitting my window all night, but I was enjoying listening to
08:06it while I browsed Reddit, as I do, when all of a sudden, the power went out in the blink
08:11of an eye.
08:13This was kinda creepy, but I didn't really mind, because I had my data and a decent charge
08:17on my phone, so I continued browsing.
08:20After a little while, I started to get tired, so I figured it was time to shut my phone
08:24off and get some sleep.
08:26I placed it on the side table next to me and rolled over to go to sleep.
08:30I guess I passed out shortly after, because I don't remember anything in between the rain
08:34hammering at my window and the eerie silence of a soft wind outside.
08:38I assume the rain stopped while I was asleep.
08:41I rolled over to get more comfortable, because my side was hurting, and then I realized just
08:45how parched for water I was.
08:47I took a few minutes to try and fall back asleep again, but it didn't happen.
08:51My mouth was just too dry.
08:53I sat up, grabbed my phone, and turned on the flashlight so I could have a source of
08:57light to the kitchen to grab a glass of water and go back to bed.
09:01As I opened my bedroom door, I was smacked in the face with a blast of cold air.
09:06It was freezing in the living room.
09:08I quickly threw on a sweater and continued to the kitchen.
09:11As I was nearing it, I could hear the wind becoming louder and the temperature become
09:15colder.
09:16I reached the kitchen and walked in, grabbed a glass from the cupboard, and started to
09:20fill it with water from the tap.
09:22I took a quick glance around the kitchen and noticed something weird.
09:26The door to the patio was left open.
09:28Naturally, I was weirded out by this and a little scared, thinking of how that could
09:32happen.
09:33I ended up rationalizing to myself that my grandfather must have left it open earlier
09:37that night and just forgot about it.
09:39I walked over to the sliding door, glanced over my shoulder out of paranoia, and slid
09:44it shut and locked it.
09:45I fast walked back to my room just in case.
09:48I opened my door and closed it behind me and then laid back down in bed, my glass of
09:52water on my side table and flashlight still in hand.
09:56I was able to calm myself down slightly, enough to turn off the flashlight and try to get
10:00some shut eye.
10:02Something inside of me wasn't letting me forget the possibility that there might be someone
10:05in my house.
10:07I got back out of bed again and slid my chair from my desk to my door in an attempt to keep
10:11someone out.
10:12I then checked the closet again, just in case.
10:16I laid back down again and kept my flashlight on as a sort of night light this time.
10:22Then the most disturbing thing that's ever happened to me occurred.
10:27I felt a slight bump come from under my bed, accompanied by a creak of the bed springs.
10:32I then realized I hadn't checked under my bed like an idiot.
10:36It felt like I was going to vomit and I leaned off the side of my bed and peered underneath.
10:42I saw the disturbing sight of an extremely unhealthily skinny woman with bloodshot eyes
10:48and yellow teeth staring back at me.
10:51She was smiling an ungodly grin that I still can't get out of my head.
10:55She stared at me for at least 3 seconds while I was still trying to process what I was seeing
10:59before she, I swear to god, cackled like a fucking witch.
11:03At this point my whole brain was screaming nope and I leapt out of my bed towards my
11:07door, moved the chair as fast as possible and sprinted down the hall to my grandparents
11:11room.
11:12I banged on the door as loud as I could while calling for my grandfather.
11:16He was out within seconds and he had a gun in his hand, something he had never even mentioned
11:20having in the house.
11:22We ran to my room, him in front of my grandmother and I, and we just barely caught a glimpse
11:26of a white figure running away from the bedroom window.
11:30My grandfather took a shot, presuming as a warning to tell them to never come back.
11:35We didn't end up calling the police because we figured they wouldn't be able to do anything
11:38since we don't have security cameras or have any idea who she even was.
11:43All I can guess was that this woman was dangerously ill and saw my bedroom light on before the
11:47power went out.
11:49I have no idea what her intentions were or if she even knew what she was doing.
11:53We're getting the windows and doors in the house installed with locks sometime the next
11:57week just for safety, and all I can say is, even if you live in a safe area or a trusted
12:02community, bad things still can and do happen, and you always have to take precautions against
12:07such things.
12:18It was August.
12:19My girl Cass and I went upstate for a little weekend getaway at my family's rustic mobile
12:23home.
12:24It has running water, electricity, and a toilet, so we call it luxury camping.
12:30The home is very small, about 600 square feet.
12:33One bedroom, one pull-out couch in the living room, one bathroom, and a very small kitchen.
12:39Despite its remote location, there's lots to do, including archery, shooting, dirt biking,
12:44and off-roading.
12:45We had a whole little itinerary planned for the weekend.
12:49Friday we mostly just unpacked and went out to eat, went grocery shopping, then relaxed.
12:54Saturday we did most of the stuff I'd just mentioned before, until it started getting
12:58really cloudy out, like storm clouds.
13:01We also could feel it in the air that a big storm was brewing, so we put all the stuff
13:05we took out back into the outbuilding.
13:08We put a movie into the DVD player as we cooked dinner.
13:11At some point while we were eating, we heard the sudden torrential downpour of rain on
13:15the roof of the home.
13:17Pretty soon, there were loud, thunderous crashes of lightning almost directly overhead.
13:22We both wanted to go sit outside and enjoy it as we ate.
13:26We relaxed on the deck outside under the canopy, with an amazing view of the sky.
13:31Strong bolts of lightning constantly lit up the dark night sky, the thunder booming
13:35almost instantly after the lightning strikes.
13:38We were right in the heart of the storm, and then we heard something out in the woods.
13:43It was a voice, a loud voice seemingly calling out something, but it was nowhere near discernible.
13:50So the place is really remote like I said, hearing any other voices nearby would already
13:54set off alarms in normal conditions, but during a storm like this, it was extremely concerning.
14:00We had to assume that it was a lost hiker or something.
14:04I stepped over to the edge of the deck, getting a little wet as the rain blew in under the
14:08edge of the canopy.
14:09With the constant crashing of thunder and lightning, there were moments of light in
14:13the vicinity that allowed me to see just far enough away to the tree line where the woods
14:17began.
14:20There was a person out there, clear as day.
14:23I told Cass, and she instantly freaked out thinking I was joking and telling me to stop.
14:28I considered calling out asking if they needed help, but decided against it on the grounds
14:33that I was kind of scared.
14:35This weekend was my idea though, and I did kind of drag Cass up here.
14:38I didn't want to ruin the experience freaking her out.
14:41I went back to her and said I think it's a hiker.
14:44She asked if we should offer some help, and I said not unless they come knocking on the
14:48door.
14:49I told her we should go inside, and I nudged her in.
14:52I went back over to the edge of the deck just out of curiosity.
14:56I got even wetter as I looked around until I spotted something.
15:00It looked like a person again, much closer to the deck, like a lot closer, only about
15:0620 feet away now.
15:08I continued to look until a quick flash of lightning briefly exposed a man standing there,
15:13confirming my suspicion.
15:14He was wearing bright colors, and almost looked white.
15:18He was just standing still.
15:19That was the scariest part, he wasn't even approaching the deck or anything.
15:23I went inside and quickly locked the door.
15:26Cassidy saw the worry in my face.
15:28I felt my heart racing, and I almost felt nauseous.
15:32I'm sure I almost stuttered as I said I don't know who that is, and then I saw the worry
15:36in Cass's eyes worsen.
15:38I did my best to keep her calm, telling her to expect someone knocking on the door asking
15:42for help.
15:44I said they probably just need shelter from the storm.
15:47I tell you, it was the longest five minutes ever, just sitting and listening to the pouring
15:52rain and lightning outside, before we felt and heard the footsteps outside on the deck,
15:57even over the sound of the storm.
16:00The home doesn't have a doorbell, so we expected a knock on the door, but instead, there was
16:04this weird shuffling sound on the other side of the lone wooden door.
16:08It sounded like attempts at opening it.
16:10It was at this point that the worry I had been feeling had peaked.
16:14I think I felt an adrenaline rush at this point.
16:17Cass was already in the bedroom hiding at this point, and she was quietly calling for
16:20me to come.
16:22The noises at the door stopped, but there was never a single knock.
16:26I went to the bedroom and told Cass to just remain quiet, I'll be back in the room in
16:29a second.
16:30I wanted to look out the window.
16:33I went back to the living room and turned off the lamp.
16:36I took a second to just breathe, before yanking the curtain open.
16:40I looked out the window, and I saw the white figure of the man running away from the window
16:44and quickly disappearing.
16:46I didn't know what was going on.
16:48I hoped that they ran away for good.
16:51To be safe, I went to the kitchen window and looked out.
16:54This one didn't have a curtain or blinds.
16:56I realized about halfway to the window, that there was a face on the other side.
17:01I could see it even through the blur created by the rain on the window.
17:05I yelled at the top of my lungs, yo go away, trying to sound scary.
17:09They didn't move.
17:10Now when I say this, I know it sounds incredibly cliche, but we don't have wifi in the home
17:15and the cell reception is very on and off.
17:18During a storm like this, there was no reception at all for either of us.
17:21There was my dad's rifle under the bed in the bedroom though.
17:25I left the kitchen and hurried to the bedroom where Cass was sitting in the bed biting her
17:29nails on edge.
17:31I grabbed the rifle under the bed from its case since we hadn't yet taken it out.
17:35There was a magazine already loaded with rounds thankfully, so I popped the mag in the rifle.
17:40Doing this in front of Cass obviously meant I was no longer sugarcoating what was going
17:44on, but it didn't matter because there was suddenly a bang at the bedroom window.
17:50Something was either thrown or someone straight up banged their hand on it, and then a second
17:55later there was a bang from another window out in the living room or kitchen.
18:00It was more than one person.
18:03This had gone far enough at this point, I told Cassidy to wait in the bedroom.
18:07I went to the front door and positioned myself to be ready to potentially fire at anyone
18:11on the other side of the door should they rush me.
18:14I quietly unlocked the door, and when I was close enough to mentally ready, I yanked the
18:19door open and drew my rifle up pointing at the door.
18:22No one was there, and so I hurried outside with adrenaline controlling my actions and
18:27spun around quickly to ensure no one was on the deck.
18:30Then I went to the stairway and looked down, and there was that guy in bright colored clothes
18:35standing where he was before outside the window, apparently trying to look scary.
18:40He looked up at me.
18:41He already knew I was outside, but I doubt he knew I had a gun.
18:45I shot the rifle into the air, and I heard the guy yell in a deep voice, oh shit, as
18:50he ran away into the darkness.
18:52I heard at least two fading yelling voices likely communicating to each other, and then
18:57it was just the sound of the storm again.
18:59I don't know how many people were out there, at least two, maybe even three.
19:04It could have been teenagers playing some fucked up prank, or it could have been some
19:08really messed up people trying to scare us and break in.
19:11I don't play around like that, though.
19:13If anyone came up that deck while I was outside, I would have shot them dead.
19:17They were not there seeking help, and that is a 100% certainty.
19:22The next day was Sunday, and so we packed up and left.
19:25There were no signs of anything having been done to my car or the home or anything from
19:29the night before.
19:31I made sure to lock everything up and take anything of particular value home this time.
19:36But of all the years of my family owning the place, that was the only encounter like this
19:40any of us had ever had.
19:42It really put a bad taste in my mouth about the place and being in an isolated place.
19:47I've been up there a few times since with my family, but I would never, ever go alone.
