00:00So inshallah tonight, I wanted to talk about really one of the most beautiful narrations that you find that
00:07narrate the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam giving
00:10Special advice to one of his companions, especially when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is talking to one of the younger companions
00:16Someone like Anas sallallahu alayhi wa sallam or Ibn Abbas sallallahu alayhi wa sallam or others
00:20They're really special ahadith. They contain many treasures and the nature of the delivery also
00:27Is a lesson in and of itself now this narration that I'm going to share
00:31Which is narrated in a tirmidhi. Tirmidhi grades it as a hassan hadith
00:36as a good hadith
00:38But there are some problems with the chain of narration
00:41However, the lesson beyond the weakness that might be in the chain of narration the lesson from this is really a powerful
00:48Lesson that Anas ibn Malik radiallahu ta'ala anhu is reported to have said that the messenger of Allah
00:54Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to me. Oh my son if you are capable
00:59So again, just the nature of the delivery that this is the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam giving heartfelt advice to Anas ibn Malik
01:05radiallahu ta'ala anhu who he raised in his own home. Oh my son if you are capable of
01:11Waking up in the morning and ending the evening without any hatred in your heart
01:17For anyone then do so. So he's telling Anas radiallahu ta'ala anhu
01:22Oh my dear son, look at how you wake up in the morning and look at how you sleep at night if you can do
01:28So removing all grudges from your heart when you wake up and when you sleep at night
01:34Then do so and then he says to me. Oh my son, and this is from my sunnah
01:39This is from my way and whoever revives my sunnah
01:43Then he has loved me and whoever has loved me will be with me in paradise
01:48May Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala make us the companions of the Prophet. Peace be upon him in paradise. Allahumma ameen
01:53So let's talk about this inshallah ta'ala. It's such a beautiful
01:57Narration that we have to break it down from start to finish inshallah ta'ala. Number one the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
02:03Speaking to him giving him heartfelt advice. He loves him
02:07He cares about him and this is advice that has a certain level of seriousness to it
02:12That this is life advice for your spirituality to excel in this life and in the hereafter bid'ah
02:19Ta'ala, but the second part of this when you wake up in the morning and when you sleep at night
02:24Now subhanAllah, there are numerous narrations and stories about sleeping at night and making sure that you purify your heart when you sleep at night
02:33But you know this one actually mentions how you wake up as well
02:36And if you realize in our deen there is an emphasis always on the beginnings and on the endings, right?
02:42That you start your day, right and you end your day, right?
02:45There is adhkar al sabah and adhkar al masah, the morning remembrances and the evening remembrances
02:50There is what you say when you sleep, you know, and then what you say when you wake up you go to sleep
02:56Saying to Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala, bismika allahumma amootu wa ahya, that in your name. Oh Allah, I
03:03Live and I die and then you wake up in the morning alhamdulillah alladhi ahyana ba'dama amatina
03:09wa alayhi nushoor, that all praises be to the one who gave us life after death and to him is the ultimate return
03:15So you have the beginning you have the end you have the morning remembrance
03:19You have the evening remembrance you have
03:21What should come to your heart and to your tongue as soon as you open your eyes and what should come to your heart and your
03:27Tongue as soon as you close your eyes
03:29So you wake up and you start the day, right?
03:32You start your morning right by setting your priorities properly by focusing your heart on Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala and removing anything
03:39that's going to be a distraction from
03:41Having that focus on Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala and then at night you you make it a point to actively remove
03:48Grudges from your heart. The best way this can be achieved is to actually make dua for the person
03:55to pray for the person and
03:57To to ask Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala for forgiveness for them and goodness for them
04:02So every morning and every night you actively purify your heart of those grudges and then this part here
04:08Oh my son
04:09this is from my sunnah when you think about the sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and all of the sunnah is
04:16Blessed and all of the sunnah is relevant
04:18None of it is to be discarded not that which is major nor that which is minor
04:22It is all the sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
04:24when you think about the sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam think about this being a part of his sunnah removing grudges and
04:32Imagine what it was like for the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to consistently over a course of 23 years
04:40Welcome people into his community that had done horrible things to him, right?
04:45until the day of his death sallallahu alayhi wa sallam the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was
04:50Welcoming people into his ummah that had killed family members that had run him out of Mecca
04:56that had put him through all sorts of things that had harmed him in so many different ways and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is
05:04Accepting their repentance and accepting them into the community and not mistreating them nor reminding them of the harm that they committed against him
05:13He has a heart to make dua for them to pray for them
05:16Even in Uhud as they're knocking his teeth out and he has a heart to not remind them
05:20you know when you think about Yusuf alayhi salam and we talked about how
05:24The Quran was revealed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in stages and the stories of the previous prophets
05:30Those long surahs those long stories of the previous prophets were specifically revealed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to grant firmness and
05:39tranquility to his heart in the midst of his hardest moments like surah Yusuf and
05:44When Yusuf alayhi salam says to his brothers, there is no blame upon you today
05:49la tathreeba alaykum al yawm
05:51How did the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam settle that in his own heart to where he carried it to that momentous?
05:56Occasion of Fatah Mecca of the conquest of Mecca where he could have held his brothers to account
06:02He could have done to them what they did to him
06:04But instead the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam repeats what his brother Yusuf repeated
06:08It's settled in his heart when he was still in Mecca being persecuted
06:12It stayed with him when he returned to Mecca as well. And that's what he said
06:16La tathreeba alaykum al yawm, right that there is no blame upon you today. May Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala forgive you
06:22It's powerful right that this is the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
06:25The people that tried to kill him the people that killed his family members the people that persecuted him
06:30The people that caused him all sorts of hurt
06:33people within the community that might have said things to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and done things to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and
06:38Out of his mercy
06:40He did not retaliate or mention it to them and he could have held it in his heart and maybe you know
06:46Give given a sharper khutbah or a harder task to those people in the community that gave him some harm
06:52But the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam constantly lets it go
06:55in fact
06:56one of the miracles of the Quran and one of the proofs of its divine authorship is
07:00How after the slander of Aisha radiallahu ta'ala anha, if this was the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
07:06Authoring the Quran and not divine revelation
07:08Do you really think it would have been
07:10وَلْيَعْفُوا وَلْيَصْوَحُوا أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ
07:13Forgive and show mercy
07:15Pardon overlook those who have who have who have harmed harmed the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam with this horrible slander
07:22Don't you want Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to forgive you and show mercy to you if this was a man alayhi salatu wassalam
07:29Who was as they they claim
07:31Authoring the Quran himself and doing it in accordance with his personal goals wouldn't have been one of you know
07:38Of a vindictive nature of going after those that harmed him rather. It was forgiveness and pardoning and mercy. So
07:45You think of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and this is his sunnah, right?
07:51This is certainly his sunnah of how he dealt with the people that harmed him in his own community
07:59Before they came into the community and even those within the community
08:03Afterwards may be unknowingly often and what they might have said or done to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
08:09But he makes it a point alayhi salatu wassalam
08:12To remove anything from his heart against them. He does not want to meet them alayhi salatu wassalam with hard feelings
08:19He doesn't even want members of his community
08:22To tell him things about other members of the community in a way that he might have hard feelings towards them alayhi salatu wassalam
08:29He wants to have a heart that is always saleem that is always at peace with everyone that's around him
08:35And he's making it a point to tell Anas sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. This is my sunnah. This is how I am
08:41I am NOT telling you to do something
08:44I don't do and no one has been harmed more than the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam called names slandered
08:51Persecuted than him yet still he finds it in his heart sallallahu alayhi wassalam to always
08:57Forgive people to have the capacity to forgive them even to the moments of their death
09:02The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam had a heart that would have been willing to accept Abu Jahl had Abu Jahl
09:07Repented and turned back to Allah and sought forgiveness for everything
09:11He put the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam through the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam had the heart to not only forgive
09:16Iqrama Ibn Abi Jahl the son of the Pharaoh of this ummah for what he had done himself and what his father had done
09:22But he had the heart to even tell the Muslims to be sensitive
09:26To Iqrama by not mentioning his father in ways that are humiliating around him
09:31Not calling him Abu Jahl and calling him by name in front of Iqrama radiallahu ta'ala anhu in a way that would hurt his feelings
09:38That was the heart of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam
09:39That was not easy
09:41That is part of the ingredients of his qiyam of his praying at night and all of the things that we read about him
09:47alayhi salatu wasalam standing in gratitude
09:50weeping at night
09:51Prostrating at night reciting the Quran at night in that solitude with his Lord subhanahu wa'ta'ala
09:57So that's the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam
09:59Not just something he tells us to do something he had to do
10:02Harder than any one else and then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam says to him
10:07Oh my son, that is my Sunnah and whoever revives my Sunnah
10:13فقد أحبني قل إن كنتم تحبون الله فاتبعوني يحببكم الله ويغفر لكم ذنوبكم
10:19As Allah says in surah Ali Imran
10:21Say if you truly love the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam
10:26Then follow the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam and Allah will love you back and Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala is all forgiving and all merciful
10:33So the love of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam is connected to the following of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam Sunnah
10:39May Allah allow us to adhere to his Sunnah in every way
10:42Allahumma ameen, and then he says and whoever loves me shall be with me in paradise
10:48What a great incentive subhanAllah that
10:52the closest to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam in Jannah are those who prostrate the most and prostration is
10:59The the hallmark of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam's worship those that stay in a place of sujood
11:04The closest to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam on the Day of Judgment are those that had the best character
11:10He was only sent to perfect our good character
11:13And so we become more like him when we perfect our character and the closest to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam
11:19On the Day of Judgment are those that adhere to his Sunnah
11:22May Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala allow us to adhere to his Sunnah in the most holistic way and the closest to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassalam
11:27On the Day of Judgment are those who send salawats on him most frequently
11:32Allahumma salli wa sallim wa baraka abdika rasoolika muhammadin sallallahu alayhi wasallam
11:36May Allah send his peace and blessings upon him his family his companions and allow us to be joined with him
11:42in the highest level of Jannah to the Firdos
