00:17In Brief History of a Family, a Chinese family lives a seemingly perfect middle-class life.
00:23When their only son brings home a new friend from school, the family takes an interest
00:27in this kid who comes from a very different background. But the more they know about him,
00:32the deeper they find themselves in unfamiliar grounds, emotionally and mentally.
00:39In my film, I put this family under the microscope and examined it on two levels. One, as a cell
00:45of our society affected by its sociopolitical changes, and two, as a living cell in the
00:51biology sense reacting to an outsider and the changes he brings.
00:58By looking through a microscope, I also want to get closer to these characters, amplify
01:03their hidden fears, desires, and tension. But the closer we get, the more mysterious
01:10they become. I hope this film will take you on an immersive journey, one that you will
01:16enjoy till the end.
