00:00I have this love-hate relationship with social media.
00:03I hate it, but I do like it. Love is kind of a bit of a strong word.
00:09I do like it because I meet a lot of people there and I get my clients from there.
00:15The hating part of it really comes down to social media being what it is.
00:22I definitely don't use Facebook or Instagram or anything to do with Facebook.
00:27The main ones are the ones that I use are Twitter and LinkedIn.
00:33Now Twitter, when I was using Twitter, I had loads of people I was connected with and I was following.
00:42And one day I thought this is insane because I'm not getting any value because there's so much information.
00:48And probably 90% of it wasn't relevant to me whatsoever.
00:55So I went through and deleted absolutely everybody.
00:59I'm following like two people which is actually my own companies.
01:03I don't follow anyone.
01:05What I do do is create lists and then I started following the people that I really wanted to.
01:12So I created different lists.
01:13So I created great lists for myself and I've met so many new people and I've learned so much from it.
01:22LinkedIn is a different beast.
01:24I've always hated the way LinkedIn, I'm looking at LinkedIn, you know,
01:29I've always hated the way LinkedIn kind of does its feed because every time somebody likes something you see on Twitter.
01:38It was it's not like that and that annoys me or has annoyed me for since the beginning.
01:44But what's even more annoying about LinkedIn the type of people who use it and what they use it for and I'm one of those people.
01:54We were there to self-promote, but there's only so much self-promoting.
01:59You can actually do without it getting really sickly and annoying and and I think I'm in that category.
02:05Maybe I'm not sure with these videos anyway.
02:08But what tends to happen is that people started putting too much personal information on there and you know photos of kids and stuff,
02:18which is fine if that's what you want to do.
02:20That's your own prerogative, but I don't need to see it.
02:24So I'm getting to the same stage after seeing actually been thinking about this for a long time.
02:30But after seeing today's a post today by Emma Wilson, I put a link down to her posts below.
02:39It just got me rethinking about what I'm doing on LinkedIn and how it's annoying me and how I can fix it.
02:49And the power of know I talk about the power of know all the time is kind of something that I've got to go into.
02:57I've got to basically say no to connections because I'm connecting to so many people that I just don't know why am I connecting to them?
03:04If I want to follow someone then I should be able to follow them and there's a follow button.
03:09There's a connection button and a follow button and I think people are using the connection button wrongly because now you're connected.
03:19You don't know the person and again, I'm at fault at this because I'm just saying yes to connections
03:26and I'm even sending out connection requests.
03:29So what I'm going to do is basically create my LinkedIn connections like I did with my Twitter.
03:37So in Twitter you had follow you can follow people and you can create lists and I think on LinkedIn you can connect with people which is the follow on Twitter and then you can follow people which is the lists on Twitter.
03:51Does that make sense?
03:53So I'm going to start deleting everyone.
03:56Everyone that I have not talked to whether with a viral call or someone.
04:02I know because it actually started off with my clients actually.
04:06Now that there were the main connections I had so the power of no is just to say no, I'm not going to do this again.
04:14I'm going to cancel everyone out and start re-adding them or you know, not deleting everyone but basically getting rid of people that I just don't know
04:25and if they want to know about me and if I want to know about them or whomever there's a follow button.
04:33So just follow the main thing is it's just that my my feed is just so filled with what I would call crap.
04:42So somebody else wouldn't call crap.
04:44I just think there's a lot of crap on there that I don't need to see.
04:47So why should it be in my feed?
04:49So I'm just going to start deleting people.
04:52I mean if you let me see if I can record this.
04:59So if you look at my list here, I have almost 1200 connections and there are people there.
05:06I know a couple of people there.
05:07I know that I've spoken with but a lot.
05:10I just don't know and I don't know.
05:12I don't even know why I'm connected with them.
05:15So I'm going to go through this whole list and start disconnecting.
05:24And make my sanity better on LinkedIn because as I said, if you read Emma's post about why she did it.
05:32It's it only makes sense because when I did on Twitter, I started following the right people the right content
05:40and Twitter is kind of helping me in pushing my posts because they're curated to the people that want to see myself and that I want to see.
05:53Anyway, that's my video today.
05:56Let me know what you do with LinkedIn.
05:58If you have the same issue where you just scrolling and scrolling and seeing nothing that you really want to see and yeah, I'll see you in the next video.
06:07Have a great day.
06:08Ciao.
