Mpox: 25 cases confirmed negative from 31 suspected cases

There are 31 suspected cases of mpox or monkey pox in Malaysia as of Monday (Aug 26), of which 25 cases have been confirmed negative while six are still being monitored.

At a press conference on Monday, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad confirmed that the total number of mpox cases in Malaysia remains at nine, with the first case reported on July 26, 2023, and the most recent in November of the same year.

00:00The MPOC, we have been communicating on this. I must say that we have had nine cases, what
00:17that was last year. We have nine cases of MPOCs of the CLAD2, right? And it ended almost
00:27like from December 2023 right up to this moment in time, we have had no new cases, right?
00:36We have had those that we went through again, about 26 of the cases where we screened and
00:46we wanted to get it confirmed and to date, to this moment in time, no positive cases.
00:56But nonetheless, we are, as I said on my point earlier, about how we are actually strengthening
01:03and alerting all our, especially borders control and as well our aid embassies that we are
01:16now activating and as well our CPRC is on the alert and we are also sending regular
01:25circulars among our health facilities, both public and private. And yeah, we want to
01:32step up, you know, as to, because we know of Singapore's case, we know of the Thailand
01:37cases, they are all bordering us and that we have got to be very alert and strengthening
01:44our border controls in surprises. Not just these two countries, but as well overseas
01:50coming from particular African countries. So yeah, thank you very much.
