00:00Students and parents turned up in droves at the STAR Education Fair 2024
00:06to explore a wide range of tertiary and postgraduate study options.
00:11Organised by STAR Media Group for the third time this year,
00:14the two-day fair features a diverse array of opportunities,
00:18including technical vocational education and training or TVET programmes,
00:23as well as financial aid options such as study loans and scholarships.
00:27I just finished my college A-Levels and looking for a uni right now.
00:31I saw this on Facebook as well as my sister recommended me to come here,
00:35so I thought I'd give it a try.
00:37I mainly seek for the type of environment they have,
00:40whether I can study and do my best there.
00:43So scholars and offers do play a big part.
00:46It is helpful, but I prefer a better, enjoyable environment.
00:51Actually I come here for her, because you want to know about piloting.
00:55Early exposure, because she's only 16.
00:58So we want to know about qualifications, what subjects need to be credited and why not.
01:05So we come early.
01:07They say for piloting, for SPM, at least five credits,
01:12which is Mathematics, Physics, English and BM.
01:16They say for piloting, you have to pass 15 exam papers.
01:23So in nine months.
01:28She said she just found out.
01:31I want to know more about the colleges I want to go to, especially in Psychology,
01:36because it's really hard to research online when you don't have someone face-to-face to talk to.
01:41I want to continue my studies, so I came here.
01:44Maybe I can understand more about the schools I want to go to,
01:48whether I want to continue my studies in Germany or elsewhere.
01:52When I come here, I can know more.
01:54We have a goal. After SPM, we don't have to ask a lot of questions.
01:58Now we have a plan. After SPM, we can go on with our journey.
02:04A total of 40 institutions are participating at the fair,
02:07with 60 booths showcasing their offerings.
02:11ELMU University is Enforcement Leadership and Management University.
02:15I would like to emphasise that ELMU University is the first full university
02:20to offer law enforcement programmes.
02:23So our idea is to make sure that we enhance the professionalism of law enforcement.
02:29How do we do that? We do that through education.
02:32So our contribution is through education.
02:35Education which looks into enhancing the professionalism of law enforcement officers.
02:42But the ELMU programs are not only for law enforcement,
02:47because our programs are built in with transferable skills
02:52where you can work in any discipline or any job.
02:57Asian countries are emerging in terms of economic development and progress,
03:02not just in China, in Southeast Asia as well.
03:05This is a very good opportunity and platform for any businesses
03:09to want to explore and expand their growth.
03:13So I think for Malaysian students especially,
03:16who are looking into understanding Asian economies, innovation, sustainability,
03:21all these things that you cannot get otherwise from Western institutions,
03:25coming to Japan and Kyoto University will be a really good option for you
03:29because that's exactly what we are focusing on
03:31and that will be our unique selling point, I would say.
03:34Thanks to the bilateral relationship between Japan and Malaysia,
03:38there are actually more than 100 types of scholarships available
03:41for students to apply.
03:43So there are private and government scholarships.
03:46So depending on the area of interest, area of study, and the location in Japan,
03:50students will have different options of scholarships
03:53that can cover their tuition fees as well as their living expenses in Japan
03:58if they were to consider coming to Japan.
04:01We offer a very unique program called Bachelor of Science in Maritime Business.
04:06So that is a combination for students to learn about the business of maritime.
04:11So these are not students who will go to sea,
04:14but they'll be working as professionals in shipping companies
04:17and the wider ecosystem, which is the maritime industry.
04:20Malaysia, being a maritime nation, we need skilled professionals at all levels.
04:25So at Meritus, we are helping to fill that gap
04:29by producing graduates currently at the bachelor's level,
04:34but we have also gone to offer postgraduate courses as well,
04:37in the master's and also PhD courses in maritime.
04:40We have a program in the field of science, technology, engineering, mathematics,
04:44as well as arts and social sciences, as well as humanities.
04:47So the program that we offer, I would say, is an array of programs
04:52from bachelor's degree, master's degree, and also doctoral degree programs.
04:56For today specifically, whoever comes to the event,
04:59for these two days, we will be offering on the spot offer letters,
05:02especially for those of them applying for our bachelor's degree program,
05:06as well as master's degree by coursework program.
05:09So to whoever is looking for admission to University of Malaya,
05:12this is the best time for you to come and get your offer letter on the spot.
05:16The fair is open from 11am to 7pm,
05:19with free admission and door gifts awaiting the early birds.
