00:00So European football back at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea vs. Cevette, first leg of the UEFA Conference League playoff tie.
00:11The Blues hoping to add one more major European trophy for the first task, to qualify for the newly formatted 36-team league stage.
00:22Tonight's visitors already well into the swing of their domestic season, having played five games in the Swiss Super League and one in the Cup too.
00:31But Chelsea start as heavy favourites as they look for their first goals and victory under Enzo Maresco.
00:39It was the fine form at the end of last season that made Chelsea's late run for Europe a successful one.
00:45Now the task is to put themselves in the best possible position to qualify for the competition proper ahead of next week's return leg in Geneva.
00:54Let's take a check on the two teams then.
00:56Philippe Jorgensen and Tosin make their debuts for the Blues.
01:00Moises Caicedo, captain, and their first Chelsea starts for Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, Mark Guillaume, Renato Vega and Pedro Neto.
01:08Joao Felix wasn't signed in time to feature.
01:11Rhys Jones is injured.
01:17As for Sevet, well there's not too many familiar names in their line-up.
01:21There are a couple of players to look out for though.
01:23Derek Kutesa has scored five times already this season, veteran Miroslav Stevanovic has bags of experience around European football.
01:32Their goalkeeper is vastly experienced too.
01:35He's played over 250 times for them, Jeremy Frick, former Lyon keeper.
01:39And he might feel like he's going to be in for a busy night tonight.
01:42We'll have to wait and see as far as that goes.
01:50Lovely touch there from Mudrick to Dewsbury-Hall.
01:52Guillaume trying to hold his run here.
01:54Dewsbury-Hall in a wonder infield.
01:57He's had it taken off his toe as he was going to make the pass but he was quick to win it back.
02:01Mudrick trying to tackle him but Dewsbury-Hall emerged with the ball.
02:03And he's spread it through to Guillaume, what a start this could be.
02:06Mark Guillaume trying to head it in.
02:08Now did he get a clip there?
02:09He was so honest in trying to score a goal.
02:12Brilliant work.
02:13I just wonder whether he was fouled.
02:15Referee doesn't seem to think so.
02:16It'll be worth looking at again.
02:18Terrific football from Dewsbury-Hall.
02:20Gave it away, wins possession back.
02:22Possibly a little grace.
02:25You'd expect your centre forward to go over there.
02:28That's not a criticism.
02:34Here's Neto.
02:36Chance for him to express himself.
02:38Oh, that could have been an own goal so easily.
02:40Flicked off the leg of a defender.
02:41It's Neto showing up against Mazzucco.
02:44It's not going to be any match for his pace.
02:46I think Guillaume fancies that and probably gets there.
02:48That's Kitesa, might think about a shot.
02:54He's coming back his way.
02:55And again.
02:57Angle's not great but he had a go anyway.
02:59And it's batted away by Philip Jorgensen.
03:04Holding midfielders for Sevette are doing a pretty good job
03:06in that regard.
03:08You touch on them dropping back into a five,
03:10into a six at that time.
03:11That's because they're being so disciplined.
03:13They're holding midfielders in Markingham.
03:15Oh, Modric, can he get the shot off here?
03:17He could but he couldn't hit the target.
03:19Broke to him very quickly.
03:20Wanted to take it on early.
03:22He's in conversation.
03:23Disagreement within Kunku.
03:26Kunku won in the pass.
03:28I don't think so.
03:29I think he has to strike here.
03:30What I'm surprised about is
03:32that's just got to be bent towards the far corner.
03:37Give it away now then.
03:38And Kunku can put the afterburners on here.
03:40But Modric up there with him.
03:42Passes just behind him.
03:44Modric's collected it though.
03:47And just to spread it out for Pedro Neto.
03:50He's going to get the shot away.
03:51Got it bang on target as well.
03:53Snapped into the midriff of Jeremy Frick.
03:56The lovely start from Nkunku.
03:58Felt maybe Neto was going to join the attack
04:00a little earlier on the right-hand side.
04:02Just seemed to wait for the play to develop.
04:05It's a quick shift again.
04:06That's going to become a feature of Chelsea's play.
04:09And his individual moments.
04:11We're just over a third of the way through this game.
04:14We're still waiting for the first goal.
04:16It's another testing ball.
04:18Worked across the face of the Chelsea six-yard box.
04:20And eventually, Jorgensen able to grab it.
04:25Can he pinch this?
04:27Didn't really get it.
04:28Although, Gillespie Hall's got it now.
04:30Just too much for Nkunku, is it?
04:32No, goalkeeper got a touch.
04:33Had to be a penalty.
04:34Referee in no doubt.
04:37Rush from Jeremy Frick.
04:39He raced off his line to try and stop Christopher Nkunku.
04:42And the only way he could do it was by bringing him down.
04:46And it's similar to that move in the first half.
04:49It's Gillespie Hall once again, the architect.
04:51And he's clearly going to get to the ball first.
04:54Frick commits himself.
04:56Completely unnecessarily.
04:58He waits for the collision, doesn't he?
05:01He looks to put Chelsea ahead and get his first goal in European competition for the Blues.
05:08And he does!
05:09Smacked it in!
05:10Goalkeeper guessed right.
05:11But Christopher Nkunku got the power and the placement.
05:14Which meant that Frick could only wave at it as it flew past him into the net.
05:19Dread through early into the second half for Chelsea.
05:22Christopher Nkunku makes it Chelsea 1-0.
05:26And he's got quite an interesting technique.
05:28He just starts quite centrally.
05:30A couple of steps to the left.
05:32Starts his run and he's got such good technique and quality in that right foot.
05:37There's no doubt, really.
05:39It's firm, it's accurate.
05:40It's a perfect penalty.
05:42I know it must be so tempting to come out.
05:44You feel it's your domain.
05:46You feel like you have to dominate your 18-yard box.
05:49Oh, Guillaume!
05:50He's managed to win it back!
05:51And he's surely going to put it in for his first Chelsea goal!
05:54Maybe second time round?
05:55No!
05:56Mark Guillaume!
05:57How about third time lucky?
05:59It's the goalkeeper.
06:00Oh, he can't believe it.
06:03Frick let off the hook.
06:05Mark Guillaume is brilliant.
06:07He's great, determined.
06:09Front plate.
06:12The gap at the near post is huge for him to find.
06:15He just didn't catch it.
06:18Didn't get the direction or the purchase on his initial finish.
06:21That's the big chance then.
06:23Fernandes.
06:26Managed to find Madhuake.
06:27Now then, chance for a second goal.
06:28Here!
06:29Mane Madhuake!
06:31Thumps it into the net.
06:33Wonderful finish from Madhuake.
06:35And Chelsea have the second goal that they crave.
06:39Mane Madhuake makes it Chelsea 2, Cervette 0.
06:43Brilliant goal.
06:45Amazing finish.
06:46Perfectly weighted from Enzo Fernandes in the build-up.
06:50It puts the full-back in real trouble.
06:53It's inch-perfect.
06:54The run, the timing, the pass.
06:56It's all exquisite stuff.
06:59I think we spoke of this earlier on in the pre-season.
07:01He got that goal at Luton on his right foot.
07:03And I want him to do this more often.
07:05At Kenwood Road last season.
07:07Lashed it into exactly that part of the goal.
07:09And he can do it.
07:10It's nice to get that cushion.
07:12Could get better.
07:13Here's Palmer.
07:14He's driven it cold, Palmer.
07:15He's driven it cold, Palmer.
07:17Got everything behind it, but so did Frick.
07:20Here's Watara, the new man.
07:25And a fancier shot here.
07:26Oh, and he's hit the crossbar.
07:28My goodness me.
07:29Timoko Watara via a deflection.
07:32Almost halved the deficit.
07:34Yeah, again, Watara's allowed to travel too far here.
07:39No-one coming out to pressurise the Cervette player.
07:45Still plenty forward here for Cervette.
07:52That's deflected behind for a corner.
07:58Here comes the corner.
07:59It goes all the way through.
08:00And it should have gone in.
08:01What on earth is going on here?
08:06Clever ball.
08:07Plenty forward here for Cervette.
08:08Is this the moment for them?
08:09Great save, Jørgensen.
08:11To deny Gyllenhaal.
08:16And that will surely be their last chance gone.
08:19But they ought to have scored.
08:21There is the final whistle.
08:22Well, Chelsea do have a lead to take to Switzerland next week.
08:26Goals in the second half from Christopher Nkunku from the penalty spot.
08:30And Noni Madueke have given Enzo Maresca his first win as head coach of Chelsea.
08:35But Cervette will be left to rue missed chances.
08:39But the final score at Stamford Bridge was Chelsea 2, Cervette 0.
08:45Chelsea 2, Cervette 0.
