Malaysia began exporting fresh durians to China on Saturday (Aug 24), two months after signing the Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for the Export of Fresh Durian from Malaysia to China, said Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup.

He said that fresh durians have now been allowed into the Chinese market starting this year, whereas previously, only frozen durians could be exported to the country.

00:00Today is quite a historic day because we are going to release the fresh durian from Malaysia for the first time.
00:23Previously, we could only export frozen durian from Malaysia to China.
00:33But starting from this year, we have obtained the license to start exporting fresh durian to China.
00:47This is a result of the visit of Mr. Dat Lee Chiang, the Premier of the People's Republic of China to Malaysia last June.
01:01Where we have approved the protocol for the necessary phytosanitary export of fresh durian from Malaysia to China.
01:13Today, we are going to export 20 metric tons of fresh durian to China.
01:19And there are four varieties, which are Musang King, Duri Hitam T24 and IOI.
01:29After this, we will also have an event to welcome this durian at Zhengzhou Airport in Henan Province, China.
01:41And after that, we have several programs, namely Taste of Malaysia, which will be held in Beijing and Shenzhen to welcome and export this fresh durian to China.
01:58So far, the reception is very good.
02:01In fact, China is only the eighth largest country to import durian from us.
02:09Because before this, we were only allowed to export frozen durian.
02:15But after this, we expect that there will be a very rapid increase in China's ability to export fresh durian.
02:33It's been quite frequent before this, but that is only for frozen durians.
02:37Now with the fresh durians, we can only export when the season comes.
02:41But we will try to be as frequent as possible according to the demand there.
02:45So Pharma is doing as much of the promotion activities as possible now.
02:49We are working together with the Ministry of Transport and they have been very helpful to arrange the logistics.
02:56This can be realized in just two months after the visit of the Chinese Prime Minister to Malaysia two months ago.
03:03And indeed, the agreement was signed when the visit of the Chinese Prime Minister, Li Qiang, to Kuala Lumpur in June last year.
03:12In just two months, all procedures have been approved by the authorities in China so that this fresh durian can cross the Chinese market.
03:22So it is very important that we have a strong logistical support through the special navigation of cargo.
03:31And all this needs to be sent through the air cargo.
03:35Because this fresh durian, if it is sent by ship, through the sea, it will not be valued.
03:42Because if it takes a week to arrive, it will not be valued.
03:46This fresh durian arrives on the same day.
03:49If today's flight arrives at Zhengzhou in five hours and arrives at the market on the same day, in 24 hours.
03:57So immediately, tomorrow morning, the market in Beijing already has this durian.
04:03So that's the speed we want to see.
04:06So this is very important in terms of logistics.
04:10And the Ministry of Transport has also tried to cooperate between our airport and the airport in Henan.
04:18In June last year, I also made a visit to the airport in Zhengzhou.
04:24And Zhengzhou is the main cargo airport in China.
04:28When it arrives at the airport in Zhengzhou, it has a very comprehensive logistical network.
04:34Through the train, through the truck, through various modes of transportation.
04:39So in less than 24 hours, as soon as it arrives in Zhengzhou, it can reach all over China.
04:44So this is an important joint effort.
04:47And in addition to giving great value to our durian market,
04:53by exporting this fresh durian, it also helps our logistics sector.
04:58And it will further develop our logistics sector.
05:01MHB has also established an MOU with the Henan Airport Group.
05:08And so that we want to make the concept of a twin air cargo hub.
05:14That is, the cargo hub in Zhengzhou is a hub for the Chinese market.
05:19Meanwhile, KLIA is a hub for Chinese products for the Asian market.
05:26This means that when they come, they can also bring cargo to get here.
05:31So that we can become a hub for the Asian market.
05:35So when it comes to KLIA, these products can also be sent all over Asia.
05:39We also have a large network network for ASEAN through our various cargo companies.
05:47They are not only cargo cargo companies, but also other passenger cargo companies.
05:52Other commercial airlines.
05:53They can also send.
05:54When a cargo boat enters here, it can break the boat.
05:57And it can be sent through the cargo belly.
06:00Through the networks of our cargo companies for the ASEAN market in particular.
06:06So I feel that this is a very important synergy.
06:10That is why we are trying to improve this collaboration.
06:14The MOU has been signed.
06:16But in terms of operation, we want to see more.
06:19So that this flight becomes frequent.
06:21Not just seasonal.
06:23But frequently.
06:24Occasionally.
06:25Maybe if possible, we want to see there are flights every day.
06:29Between KLIA and Zhengzhou.
