00:00Monterey's San Carlos Beach is currently closed due to the large influx of visiting sea lions.
00:14As residents of Monterey know, this has been an annual phenomenon, usually occurring on the beaches closer to Fisherman's Wharf.
00:20Our beaches are a rest point for these sea lions between their breeding grounds of the Channel Islands in Southern California and the waters of Northern California.
00:28They take advantage of the fish-rich, fertile waters of the Monterey Bay before heading out again on their journey.
00:34We've received questions on when San Carlos Beach will reopen, and we reached out to the sea lions for a response.
00:46Please remember to stay 150 feet back from these sea lions. All marine mammals are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act,
00:54and people who harass, feed, capture, or harm any marine mammals could face a hefty fine or even jail time.
01:00For your safety and theirs, please exercise caution and keep a safe distance.
