Muhyiddin lacked support to be PM because of overlapping SDs, says Anwar

  • last month
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's claim of support through 115 statutory declarations (SDs) is not true, which is why he was not appointed prime minister after GE15 in November 2022, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, told reporters on Friday (Aug 23) that there was an overlap where several Members of Parliament (MPs) signed SDs two or three times, meaning Muhyiddin did not have enough support to form the government.

00:00Dato, can you comment a little bit about the SD
00:03and then yesterday, Faisal Mohamad asked for Dato Penggelola Bijaya
00:09who has become the UAE's ambassador to be investigated.
00:12So, what is your view on this?
00:14What is the problem?
00:16The problem is the reality that is interpreted as insulting and defaming the king's power.
00:25That's it.
00:27As we all know, some people have signed two SDs,
00:32some have signed three SDs.
00:34There are parties that give full power to the party leaders.
00:39That's why when I proposed this, based on one interpretation,
00:46I didn't get it, but I accepted it well.
00:48And this is also the case in Bahawu.
00:51So, what Mr. Agung is concerned about is diversity.
00:54When the situation is unclear,
00:57Lansi Meridien said there are 115,
00:59Anwar said there are 112,
01:02there are people who have signed once,
01:03there are people who have signed twice,
01:04there are people who have signed three times,
01:05there are parties with different opinions.
01:08So, Mr. Agung has to open up and submit to convince himself.
01:14That's why in the institution, it is said to follow his opinion after he sees it.
01:21Then, Mr. Agung called the party leaders to discuss,
01:25not in an official way, but to discuss the opinions of the party leaders.
01:30And the decision was made well.
01:35Just go ahead.
01:37Why didn't I answer before this?
01:40When I think about it, it's not an issue.
01:42Wherever he lives, there are 115.
01:45It's not true.
01:46If he brings 115, it's true that there are 115.
01:49But the people who signed twice, Mr. Agung saw it.
01:52At that time, Mr. Agung saw it.
01:54This person has signed.
01:55This person has signed.
01:57Then, there is a party where the members of parliament have given full mandate
02:03and also SD to the party leaders to make a decision.
02:09And that decision is absolute.
02:12It cannot be disputed.
02:13So, we understand.
02:15It's not Mr. Agung's decision.
02:17It's not the decision of the institution.
02:19It's not true.
02:21As far as I understand,
02:24according to the opinion of the kings and state lawyers at that time,
02:29who were appointed by Mr. Muhyiddin,
02:32he said,
02:34the number of mothers in Putikai is up to Mr. Agung.
02:40Okay?
02:41That's his statement.
02:42I think it's clear.
02:43I did avoid it before.
02:45But because it's 115, it's confusing.
02:49What do you think about the statement of Mr. Faisal
02:52asking the politicians to go to the king?
02:55It's a request.
02:57I don't want to deal with it.
02:59I don't want to deal with it.
03:00I'm from the area.
03:02It's okay.
03:03Okay.
