Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) BN Ramkrishna while addressing an event in Bengaluru said that During the Chandrayaan-2 mission, Prime Minister Modi's commitment to spreading scientific knowledge was evident as he arranged for students from across India to witness the landing event at ISRO's control center. Despite meticulous planning, the mission ended in a hard landing instead of the intended soft landing, leading to a tense and emotional atmosphere. Modi, present at the control center, consoled the team, emphasizing that failures are part of the journey to success. He encouraged them to analyze what went wrong and confidently predicted future success, which materialized with Chandrayaan-3's successful landing on August 23rd, 2023. Watching live from South Africa, Modi celebrated the achievement as a victory for all humanity, emphasizing that the scientific data from the mission would benefit the entire world. Reflecting on his earlier support, Modi had recognized the potential of space as a game changer for India, organizing conferences to educate various ministries on the vast benefits of space technology for sectors like agriculture, oceanography, and remote sensing.

00:00The Chandrayaan-2 was another big mission which we were all aiming to land, soft landing
00:05on the moon, South Pole.
00:07So that time when Modiji had come to East Track, so we had made a lot of arrangements
00:14at East Track.
00:16The most important point I would like to bring here is he wanted to spread this scientific
00:23knowledge to the younger generation.
00:25So we had arranged the children from all over India.
00:29I think from each state there were 2 or 3 students who had come to East Track, Bangalore
00:34to watch this landing event and we had made all arrangements for the school kids to stay
00:40at East Track within the campus and also we had made a good arrangement for Prime Minister
00:46Ji to be at East Track campus.
00:49He was sitting in the visitor's gallery constantly monitoring the various parameters
00:54of Chandrayaan-2.
00:56Everything was going so smoothly, he was feeling very good about that and the school
01:02children were also watching.
01:04See the idea of bringing the school children to a control center is not simple because
01:11today what scientific community is achieving, if it is known to the younger generation,
01:16definitely it will lead to the knowledge spreading.
01:20So that was his idea and he also wanted to interact with the children.
01:24That was his idea and he wanted to explain to them how we are going to moon, how we are
01:31landing on the moon.
01:32That was the kind of knowledge he had on Chandrayaan-2.
01:36But the last minute where we could not land properly on the moon, we had a hard landing
01:44instead of soft landing.
01:47It took some time for all of us to digest.
01:49There was a pin drop silence in the control center and Prime Minister Ji also was watching
01:55from the visitor's gallery.
01:57Then after 4-5 minutes when we were not able to communicate to the Chandrayaan-2 lander
02:04from our deep space antenna, we had to announce that it was not a soft landing.
02:12So with that Prime Minister Jeene, he came down from the visitor's gallery and he again,
02:22he consoled each one of us at that moment because all of us were in great emotions.
02:28We thought that he is not going to come back and we were all trying to analyze what went
02:35wrong.
02:37It was almost morning 4 o'clock to 5 o'clock, we were still having discussions in the meeting
02:42room, what went wrong and why we did not land properly.
02:46At that time we got a message that Honorable Prime Minister is coming and addressing us
02:52at 8 o'clock.
02:54We were thinking what he is going to talk at this time where we had a great failure.
03:01But he has taken all of us into his confidence and he said always failures are part of the
03:10success.
03:11He said, don't worry, today what you have missed, please look at it and come back and
03:16I am sure ISRO and India is going to be successful on one of the day.
03:24So that was the kind of assurance he gave and even he patted our former chairman and
03:31said, don't worry, keep working and see what went wrong and bring back Chandrayaan-3.
03:39Chandrayaan-3 landing which happened on 23rd August, he was watching live from South Africa.
03:46So when we landed on the moon, our chairman announced that India is on moon and immediately
03:55our Honorable Prime Minister waved the flag and continuously he clapped and the entire
04:02control center was a big area of joy, I can say.
04:09Everyone was clapping and shouting.
04:12So after that, when our chairman said that India is on the moon and when Prime Minister
04:21Ji, he started addressing us, it was a very nice thing he told that India has achieved
04:28this feat, not only for India, to the entire human community.
04:34He said this achievement is not just for our nation, it is for the entire world.
04:40So he also said that the scientific data, whatever we get from this landing and rover,
04:50whatever data we collect will be available for the entire humanity for analysis.
04:56And he also said that this is not just a success, it is a, not only India has to celebrate
05:06it, the entire world has to celebrate.
05:08So that is how he took this success to the entire world, not just by India alone or ISRO
05:15alone.
05:16In 2014, after our Mars Orbiter mission success and subsequently we had few launches and then
05:26he had thought that space is going to be a real game changer for our nation.
05:34In fact, he arranged a conference in Delhi, inviting all the ministries and inviting the
05:41people from ISRO and giving them the knowledge of what space can do, whether it could be
05:50agriculture, it could be oceanography, it could be remote sensing, all ministries were
05:55brought into one forum and there was a conference held for two days to educate all the ministries
06:03that what is the amount of results or what is the amount of data, what we can get from
06:12space can be so useful.
