A trailer for Wild Bastards

00:00Welcome to Wild Bastards, our follow-up to Void Bastards.
00:07The Wild Bastards were the meanest, weirdest gang in the galaxy, until Jebediah Chase killed
00:14them all, or almost all.
00:16Now with the help of the Drifter, a sentient spaceship, they're on a mission to dig up
00:20the remains of their gang and bring the Wild Bastards back from the dead.
00:25Just like Void Bastards, Wild Bastards is a strategy shooter with multiple layers of
00:31gameplay.
00:32At the top level, you jump the Drifter through space searching for your dead compatriots.
00:37In order to find them though, you'll have to pass by planets, all of which are controlled
00:42by Chase and his minions.
00:45Each of these planets has a jump lock, which needs to be disabled before you can jump away
00:49from it.
00:51To disable the jump lock, you'll have to beam down.
00:54Now this is where the real fun starts.
00:57Before we beam down, let's make sure to inspect the planet to see what enemies we'll have
01:02to deal with.
01:04This will help us choose who from our gang to take down to the planet.
01:08On this planet, we can see that there are gun hands, blasters, yellow bellies, and morticians.
01:15Morticians are going to require some real strategy to deal with.
01:18They summon explosive spirits from the afterlife, so I should be prepared to take on a lot of
01:24those weak, but very damaging enemies.
01:27I'll need a high rate of fire outlaw, so not someone like Sarge with their high damage
01:32long range rifle, maybe more like Preach with her gatling, or even Smokey with his flamethrower.
01:39Smokey is currently feuding though with some of the gang, so let's leave him to cool off.
01:44Yellow bellies are also tricky with their force field shields.
01:48Kaboom's dynamite works well since I can throw them over.
01:51However, the even better choice would be Rawhide, whose sonic rifle goes straight through them.
01:58Lastly, Billy is a great all-rounder, so let's go with Preach, Rawhide, and Billy.
02:11With Rawhide scattered, I'm just going to have two outlaws to start.
02:17Here we are on the planet, and we can see that Rawhide isn't that far off, but we also
02:23need to think about the loot that we can gather while we're down here, and what other opportunities
02:28or threats we might face.
02:30Over here are some aces, which will buff one of our outlaws, so we'd really like to get those.
02:36And here's some cram which we can use to go shopping for anything we might need.
02:41Now there's also a mod which we can assign to any of our outlaws, and this will provide
02:45something like ammo, armor, or a special utility item.
02:50It's all stuff that we want.
02:52But we need to keep an eye on the clock, because McNeil, Chase's youngest son, is on our tail,
02:58and will be here in just a few turns.
03:00We want to be off the planet or near to being off by the time he gets here.
03:05That requires getting to this stairway, where we can beam back up to the drifter.
03:10Let's get started by recovering Rawhide though, so that's going to mean breaking through this
03:15roadblock here, but before we do that, I'm going to stop off at this location to drop
03:22off some invulnerability pickups at the roadblock.
03:25It's going to be a tough fight, but we can make it a little bit easier for ourselves.
03:31This encounter has gun hands, blasters, and morticians.
03:37The key to combat in Wild Bastards is actually the ability to swap between your outlaws during
03:43the showdown.
03:46You can see I have started as Billy, but when I need to, I can swap to Preach to utilise
03:51their weapon and stunt.
03:56This pickup is one of the invulnerability pickups I deployed from the planet map.
04:02This juice pickup I can use for my outlaw's unique stunts, that can get me out of some
04:07pretty tricky situations.
04:10Dealing with these spirits, I have to be aware of my surroundings, since the biggest risk
04:14is being overwhelmed if I lose track of where they are.
04:18If I keep an ear out though, I can also hear the enemies taunting me.
04:23This is going to help me pin down their positions, which is essential.
04:27I can also see on the compass on the top of my screen where exactly they are coming from.
04:32I can use the barrel here to my advantage.
04:38Now is a good time to use that invulnerability pickup.
04:44Invulnerability is really helping me clear out this stronghold.
04:48Getting in and flushing them out, since they were all hunkered down behind cover when I
04:52approached.
04:54Just two more enemies to deal with.
05:02By the sounds of it, a gunhand and a mortician.
05:09I can use Billy's stunt now, to quickly unload my rounds.
05:15Might as well grab another invulnerability just in case.
05:25And we have victory.
05:31Alright, that wasn't too bad, and now we can grab the cram.
05:37But that's not the end of our movement for this turn, we need to watch out for the patrol
05:41marching around up there.
05:43But we're still a good way away from them for now.
05:46Our turn again, and it's night time, which will make showdowns a bit more intense.
05:52Let's recover Roarhide.
05:54Now that we've got three outlaws, we can change our strategy up a bit.
05:58Let's pair Roarhide with Preach, and we'll send Billy off on his own to grab those aces
06:04up the top.
06:05Billy needs to retrace his steps, but you'll see we've got a handy teleporter here which
06:10is going to save us some time.
06:13Before we let Billy fight though, let's take care of this roadblock down here with Preach
06:17and Roarhide.
06:21Conveniently there's some health here though which I'll grab for Preach.
06:25As a night showdown, things are going to be a little bit different.
06:28I will have somewhat of a stealth advantage, as the enemies are going to struggle to see
06:33me at a distance.
06:35Roarhide's sonic rifle will help with the yellow bellies.
06:40They also bought three coyotes.
06:42This is one of his aces, so a permanent buff that I chose.
06:49That's a yellow belly, so time to switch it up.
06:55Since it is night, spotting enemies will be harder.
07:05Luckily my helpful coyotes are going to help go after these enemies.
07:10That is if I don't shoot them too.
07:30Only two enemies left, one in the tower, but since it is night they don't have a good shot
07:35on me.
07:41Another yellow belly, so Roarhide's turn.
07:48Great so here's some juice.
07:50I can use this with Roarhide's stunt to get some more backup.
07:56Anything to distract or create an opening, since the enemy in the watchtower is going
08:00to be a bit risky to go after.
08:04A group of coyotes should keep their attention though.
08:08Time to go up and hopefully catch them by surprise.
08:17Okay so that went really well, because we bought the right outlaws for the job.
08:22We also picked up some infamy, which will give us a nice bonus when we start the next
08:26sector.
08:27Let's end turn again.
08:31It's good we waited before taking on that roadblock with Billy though.
08:35Now we can use this orbital bombardment to destroy this roadblock.
08:40We still have a patrol in the way though, so with that crayon we picked up before, we
08:45can head back to the shop and pick up a disguise.
08:49Donning this disguise lets Billy slip right past that patrol and head for those aces.
08:55A nice safe way to get what we need.
08:58In the meantime though, let's grab that mod.
09:04Outlawed rounds, so these are a seriously good mod.
09:08I like the idea of burst on Preacher's gatling gun, so let's give her the rounds.
09:19We don't want to drag our feet though, because McNeil has just landed, so it's time to get
09:24off this planet while our outlaws are still breathing.
09:36No one got injured, but all three of our outlaws are tired.
09:40That means I'm going to try and rest them for the next planet.
09:43A great haul of loot though.
09:45Let's unpack these aces now.
09:47So Billy's leveled up and I can choose between more damage, more ammo, or a cloud of ink.
09:54That's an interesting one.
09:55It makes him temporarily invulnerable each time he takes damage.
10:00Because Billy rescued Rawhide after they'd been scattered, they're now pals, which means
10:05they'll help each other in the next showdown.
10:13Now we're back in the drifter, we can move on from Whatley's Repose.
10:17We have a few options for our next jump.
10:20This harsh planet is going to be very tiring.
10:24We have an elite planet here, which would be a real challenge, although very rewarding.
10:31Scripture 3 has aces, which would be nice.
10:35Far Libra is where our compatriot Hopalong is jailed though, and I really want to get
10:40Hopalong back, so that's definitely going to be my next stop.
10:44But we'll leave rescuing Hopalong for another time.
