00:00We're in the
00:29National Coast Watch station at Chapel Point. I'm with its manager Alan Wise. Alan, can
00:35you explain to me what the flag relay is all about?
00:40National Coast Watch was started 30 years ago and now we're up to 60 stations and we're
00:49having a relay from the first station up in the north west to the last station up in the
00:57north east going counter-clockwise. It's a distance of 2,200 miles approximately to
01:03celebrate this 30 years.
01:05Now this morning your part of the leg is from Chapel Point to Mablethorpe which I understand
01:14is around 11 miles isn't it?
01:17Yes.
01:18So, but to actually get it to this point you've had the help of the RNLI I understand?
01:27A few of the stations, I don't know how many, but a few of the stations have used the RNLI
01:31to transport the flag from one station to the next.
01:35And it came over from Brancaster to Skegness with the help of Hunstanton and Skegness RNLI.
01:42Yes, they rendezvoused at sea and then brought the flag in.
01:47So how is the flag going to be transported from Chapel Point to Mablethorpe?
01:53We'll be using a tractor and trailer now, we'll be going up the beach and hopefully
01:58using the opportunity to fundraise as often as we can along the beach.
02:03And then the last leg of the journey, the flag will be dismounted and Carl Short will
02:10be hand carrying it up the slope and through the car park to the NCEI station at Mablethorpe.
02:19And so how long do you think that's going to take you?
02:24Two hours, maybe a bit more, depends on how we go with the fundraising.
02:28Okay, well hopefully that goes well, because you are all volunteers aren't you?
02:34We are, yeah, we're all mostly fully retired but we're all volunteers, yeah.
02:40And there's also a station at Wynthorpe?
02:44We know that as Skegness NCEI, that's the oldest one of this area.
02:52Just by age is Wynthorpe, then there's Mablethorpe and us.
02:57Okay, well I won't hold you up any further, once it gets to Mablethorpe, what happens
03:02to it after Mablethorpe?
03:04I'm not sure how Mablethorpe's going to transport it, I think it's going to be couriered up
03:10to Hornsea in East Yorkshire, it's a long journey that one.
03:19Well, have a great journey, hope you raise lots of money.
03:23So do I, thank you.
