00:00Kevin, safely through in the Hampshire Senior Cup tonight, 1-0 against Andover New Street.
00:05Thoughts on the game? Performance?
00:07Yeah, it wasn't the best of games in quality to be honest, it was a bit of a battle of
00:11types but we'll just take coming through to the next round. Much needed rest for a lot
00:17of players and some good minutes for players that needed them. Players for me to look at
00:21as well. It's difficult but we have to do these things at this stage of the season still.
00:25In a ten-game month, you have to look after people and still give others opportunities.
00:30So to be honest, I've got to be really pleased with the result going through.
00:34So in the Cup, obviously the most important thing to go through and you managed to give
00:37minutes to other players who obviously have been looking for that. Any sort of catchy
00:43eye of you tonight? Give you some things to think about particularly?
00:46It's the goalkeeper, Theo. I'm really pleased with his performance. He's made two great
00:51saves. He's done all the basics really well. He's then saved a penalty. Come and collected
00:57crosses, distributed well, spoke to his back four. And again, we're talking about another
01:0218, 19-year-old here that's come into our fold. Really good. It's given me a headache.
01:08Give me something to think about. And then, yeah, look, the back four have defended well
01:14again. We've not conceded. We probably should have had a penalty ten minutes from time and
01:19three minutes after that, a penalty goes against this, which not many people think
01:24is a penalty. I said we got a bit of the rub of the green when I spoke to you the other
01:28day against Jersey with an offside decision. I didn't realise it was going to shoot us
01:31in the foot straight away after forgetting it. So if that's the case and I don't want
01:35the rub of the green, I'd just rather the game just pans out as it should. But yeah,
01:39all in all, clean sheet through to the next round and pretty much unhurt. There's a couple
01:47of knocks, but it should be all right.
01:48Nothing serious though?
01:49Hopefully not. If it is, I'll have a look and let us know. And let's just hope there's
01:53nothing serious.
01:54Nice strike from Darnell to get the winner there. Nice strike.
01:58Yeah, it's a good strike. I think the keeper's probably got better with it, to be honest.
02:03But you know, you don't win the lottery, you don't buy a ticket. And obviously a couple
02:08of returns for people like Lou Perkins coming back into the squad, Louis Russell back around,
02:12and Matt Benham named in the squad, although he didn't come on, but he was in and around it.
02:16You know, Liam Marshall just getting more minutes again. It's a good place to be for
02:22us. We find it difficult in the early stages of the season just because we have to build
02:28a group late. But once we get them together, they do generally buy into what we want. And
02:34it's a positive start to the season for us. We've got to be happy with it.
02:38And beating the league through now in the Hampshire Senior Cup and see that squad building.
02:42Yeah, just in a good place, really. Just kick on. Yeah, keep going.
02:46Yeah, for sure, as well, because we've got, like, Saturday-Monday this weekend, which
02:50is, you know, I get it, I'm excited for playing holiday games. It's really good. But I'd like
02:54to think everyone was playing Saturday-Monday. Unfortunately, our opponents aren't playing
02:58on Saturday, so they've got a decent rest. But, you know, it is what it is. We've got
03:02to get through it and just get on with it. So like I said, hopefully there's not too
03:05many knocks tonight. And we can look at what we can get out Saturday and Monday and how
03:10we can use the squad to maximise the points we get.
03:13Yeah, so obviously a quick turnaround. Shearwater at home Saturday, then Fleet on Monday. I'd
03:18say you'll obviously manage the squad as you need to. But thoughts on that quick turnaround,
03:23doubleheader?
03:24Yeah, let's see where we're at tomorrow night when everyone's sort of rested, recovered.
03:28We'll train again on Thursday. Then we'll have a look at what we can do Saturday. We'll
03:33be picking a side to win the game Saturday and we won't be thinking about Monday until
03:37Saturday's over. So, you know, we could go through unscathed, get three points and brilliant
03:42going into Monday. Or we could lose five or six to Knox and not even get the result we
03:46want. So we need to make sure that we're going into Monday with a positive performance.
03:51Build on another good result tonight and just keep building it, really.
03:54Yeah, exactly that. It's what we do. We just try and strengthen each time we go out there.
03:59We're learning things about each other, the demands that we're putting on the new lads
04:04and that. So as long as they just keep trying to do what they're asked to do, then there's
04:09no complaints from me.
