‘He Devoted So Much Time To Us’: James Cameron Went Above And Beyond To Help 'Alien: Romulus' Be The Best Sequel It Could Be

  • last month
When the "Alien: Romulus" release date arrives it will be the first piece of the "Alien" franchise to be released since Disney purchased Fox. The hope is high, both for the fans and the studio, that the movie will be a return to form. The "Alien: Romulus" trailers certainly look like the movie is a true successor to the horror of Ridley Scott’s original "Alien" and Scott himself has praised the film, but it turns out that he isn’t the only former "Alien" franchise director that Fede Álvarez talked to about his new movie.

The director of "Alien: Romulu" Fede Álvarez stopped by CinemaBlend’s suite during San Diego Comic-Con where he spoke about just how much support he got from "Aliens" director James Cameron. Apparently, the two directors became pen pals thanks to actor Stephen Lang, who starred in Álvarez's "Don’t Breathe" and is also in the "Avatar" franchise cast.

00:00I loved your conversation with Sir Ridley, the ability to sort of pick his brain about
00:05the franchise.
00:06Have you had that opportunity with James Cameron, and how much of Cameron's DNA is in Romulus?
00:09Yeah, yeah.
00:10At the very beginning, when I was starting to jump into the script, we needed to know
00:16some things about aliens, specifically, and I had met Cameron a few years before, because
00:22Stephen Lang, there was an old breed, showed the movie to Cameron, Cameron loved the movie,
00:25and he invited me to the set of Avatar 2, and we became pen pals, and then, so then
00:31when this came about, I wrote to him, like, hey, I have a question about aliens, and he
00:35was like, oh, let's talk all about it, and we did like a two-hour Zoom call, just talking,
00:40first, the first hour, probably talking about aliens, his experience of making aliens, what
00:44he learned about dealing with the xenomorph, and then another hour, just like brainstorming
00:49about what our movie was going to be, and how to make it better, so he was great, amazing,
00:56he devoted so much time for us, and then he also watched the cut when it was ready, and
00:59gave his feedback on it, so he's been super supportive, and a total privilege to have
01:04someone like Cameron, giving us his time, and helping us to make this movie better.
