00:00Deloitte's new Bristol office, the Midlands SME 300, and a residential
00:04scheme in Bath. That's all coming up on today's Daily Business Briefing.
00:14My name's Alice Bird. And I'm Adam Beach. Well Adam, we'll kick off today with some
00:19news from Deloitte, which has opened its new office in Bristol. So that's
00:24providing a base for its 750 Southwest based team. So Deloitte's
00:30taking the first and second floors of the Halo building, which is in the heart
00:34of the city. It's actually quite an interesting building because it was one
00:37of the first outside of London to achieve bream outstanding rain. It's
00:42also got a drone landing pad on the roof, which is to accommodate drone delivery
00:47services. Very futuristic. Previously Deloitte's Southwest team was based in
00:52two separate offices across the city. So they've said that the aim of this is
00:57to bring those together and, in their words, enable a culture of engagement and
01:01inclusivity. So to do this, it's been designed with lots of shared spaces.
01:06There's also wellness areas alongside a multi-faith space. It sounds like a
01:12very modern office. Yeah, I wonder how much the drone thing actually gets used.
01:18It sounds very sci-fi, doesn't it? Anyway, from a Midlands perspective, we have the
01:24September edition of Midlands Business Insider being released and that includes
01:28the SME 300, which really looks to celebrate what's considered the
01:33backbone of the regional economy. I think companies from every industry and sector
01:38are represented, including law firms such as Flint Bishop and a company called
01:43Excool, and now they're a data centre cooling specialist. So the table
01:49definitely features a whole range of exciting and growing companies. Also in
01:54the magazine is Bromhattan Insider's look at Birmingham's transformative
02:00skyline. Now, it's said that more than a dozen buildings of 100 metres or more
02:05are under construction or under planning in Birmingham, including the world's
02:10first pure octagonal residential tower. So definitely one worth looking up for.
02:15You can find pieces about those two things online or to get all the details,
02:19please pick up a copy of Midlands Business Insider.
02:22Yeah, I've actually never been to Birmingham, but if it's being compared to
02:25Manhattan, then maybe I am.
02:27It's a great city, definitely worth a visit.
02:30Well, speaking of Insider content, if you've been to one of our events and
02:34you've probably been to Manchester Central, we're actually hosting our
02:37Northwest Dealmakers Awards there in October. So the venue has published
02:42some new figures which showed that in the second quarter of this year, it
02:45boosted the region's economy by more than ÂŁ45 million. So during April,
02:52May and June, the centre hosted 34 events and welcomed nearly 121,000
02:57delegates. Now, that figure includes the money that's been spent at the
03:01venue itself, as well as what's been spent in the surrounding hotels, bars,
03:05restaurants, those types of places. Some other good news from the site is
03:10that in the last five years, they actually saw a drop in international
03:13visitors. Now, obviously, we've got COVID to thank for that. But they've
03:17now said that they've returned to pre-COVID levels. So yes, good to see
03:21that the events industry is thriving again.
03:23Yeah, and Insider actually had a pre-COVID Christmas do at the site,
03:28which my memory of is very hazy.
03:32Yeah, just moving on, we have a interesting scheme in Bath, or Barth,
03:36if you prefer. It's Cozy Co Living are seeking approval to transform a
03:42commercial site to provide 77 studios. The scheme would include kitchens,
03:47a games room, a gym, so definitely a very modern facility they're looking
03:51for. The site is actually occupied by two companies, Great Western Wine
03:55and Designability, but the scheme will retain those businesses at the
04:00site. And you can read more about that story on insidermedia.com, where
04:05you can also subscribe to our newsletters or learn about upcoming
04:08events. Thank you.
04:09Thanks for watching.
