00:00We want to be able to better manage our coast and estuaries in the face of climate change
00:10and increasing numbers of population.
00:14The Sydney Coastal Councils Group is a regional organisation of councils and we have northern
00:19beaches all the way down to Sutherland and within the outer harbour of Sydney Harbour.
00:25Our councils use a range of tools including NARCLIM.
00:29They use that information to ensure that it's protected for future generations.
00:34NARCLIM is the NSW and Australian Regional Climate Model.
00:38It's the finest resolution climate modelling ever made available for states and territories
00:43in Australia.
00:45It helps support councils with their climate risk assessments.
00:49We want to ensure that there is a consistent approach to interpreting climate change information.
00:57One of the projects is an outer harbour coastal management program that enables our councils
01:03to work together to identify sea level rise, coastal inundation and water quality issues.
01:12This will assist councils to better assess their climate risks and plan for climate adaptation.
01:20Councils are likely to be required to develop disaster adaptation plans.
01:24Now disaster adaptation plans will look at various hazards including sea level rise,
01:30urban heat, bushfire and the NARCLIM data will really enable them to get a strong evidence
01:39base to develop those plans.
01:42NARCLIM data is available to incorporate into your risk assessments.
01:46We're making cutting edge climate research available to everyone.
