Transcript
00:00This is the Bailong Elevator, the world's tallest outdoor lift, which is located deep
00:13in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China.
00:17It is claimed to be the highest and heaviest outdoor elevator in the world, standing at
00:22326 metres or 1070 feet, and holds the Guinness World Record for the world's tallest outdoor
00:28lift.
00:29The upper 171 metre section of the glass elevator is above ground and built on the
00:35side of a cliff, and gives passengers a spectacular view of the area's massive sandstone pillar
00:40formations, with the tallest reaching heights of more than 3,000 feet.
00:59The Bailong Elevator is the world's tallest outdoor lift, which is located in the Zhangjiajie
01:30Now you might be thinking, these mountains look familiar, well these monolithic pillars
01:38are what inspired the floating hallelujah mountains in the movie Avatar.
01:48The Bailong Elevator was opened to the public in 2002, and was built into a carefully selected
01:53quartz sandstone cliff face, into which tunnels and shafts were dug to accommodate the three
01:58glass face double deck elevators.
02:00The lift has a total height of 1070 feet, which the lower 505 feet are embedded inside
02:07the mountain wall, with the upper 565 feet consisting of an exposed steel derrick.
02:13There are three elevators that take passengers up and down.
02:16The elevator isn't the only place to get a good view, viewing platforms at the top are
02:20a great place to snap a picture, but the elevator is the best way to get a view of the monolithic
02:26rock columns.
02:56It's said the descent in one of these three double deck elevators used to take 110 seconds,
03:18but has been reduced to 66 seconds, but I have no doubt, because of that amazing view,
03:24that is one minute you will remember the rest of your life.
03:28Anyway, that's the end of this video, thanks for watching, and we'll see you next time.
03:33Bye bye.
