The venue's Courtauld Gallery is home to artworks such as Vincent Van Gogh's 'Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear' and 'The Descent From The Cross' by Peter Paul Rubens but the blaze broke out on the opposite side of the Georgian-era complex.

00:00A fire at Somerset House has been contained after around 125 firefighters were called
00:07to tackle the blaze at the central London arts venue.
00:11It's home to works by Monet and Cezanne, but a spokesperson for the venue said the fire
00:16broke out in the west wing on the opposite side of the complex from the gallery.
00:21I'm confident that the damage is to one small part of the building.
00:26As the London Fire Brigade continue their investigations and operations, Somerset House
00:31will remain closed to the public until further notice.
00:35The fire was reported just before midday on Saturday and sparked a complex and technical
00:40response from fire crews.
00:42The London Fire Brigade's Assistant Commissioner, Keeley Foster, told reporters that crews will
00:47remain on site into Sunday.
00:50There were no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
