00:00Hi, Dan Greave here, head professional at Woburn Golf Club, talking about putting arcs.
00:08It's a question I get asked a lot, should I have a slight arc or should I go straight
00:13back straight through or should I have a slightly more exaggerated arc?
00:16And really there is no answer to that.
00:18It's not that one is better than another.
00:20We've all got our slight tendencies.
00:22Some will be straighter, some will be more in to win.
00:26But it's important you don't get too far outside the line or too far in.
00:29So, for example, I put the string here just to give you a nice visual of where of where
00:33straight is. So if I was to go down a string, I would have a perfectly straight to straight
00:38stroke, which really once once you start hitting it more than a couple of inches, it's very
00:41difficult to have a straight to straight stroke.
00:44You need to start coming in at some point.
00:46So if your stroke is going out here, that obviously is outside the line, you're going
00:51to tend to pull your putts.
00:52If your putter starts coming in way too much on the inside, again, you're going to have
00:56a job trying to square that face up.
00:58So a slight arc is nice.
01:02OK, even a little bit more is fine like that, but let's not bring it round too much or have
01:06it going outside the line too much.
01:08So my stroke is a little bit more in to win.
01:10So you'll see my stroke coming slightly inside.
01:12I've got the string down here that gives me a little bit of a guide as to as to how
01:18much I'm coming in. And let's make sure as well that we really do match the style of
01:23stroke that you have to the putter you use.
01:25So this is a heel balance putter.
01:27That means the toe is hanging down, the toe releasing this way is going to help me square
01:31the putter up. If I was to use a face balance putter with my stroke, I would tend to
01:36push the putts because face balance putters do not want to swing as much in the toe.
01:41So there's no right or wrong.
01:42You go out there and do a bit of practice yourself and find out which putter suits you
01:46best, depending on your arc.
