IANS Exclusive: Sam Pitroda ने कहा, ‘India और Bangladesh के बीच कोई तुलना नहीं’

IANS Exclusive: While answering about the conditions similar to those in Bangladesh visible in India as well, Indian Overseas Congress Chief Sam Pitroda answered "I think these are two different countries. India is much larger, more diverse, and more complex. India is much more aware of democracy. I wouldn’t compare India to Bangladesh, mainly because of our population of 1.4 billion and the diversity we have. However, there is always a danger of an authoritarian attitude. I think India is very different, but anything can happen—I never expected these things to happen in Bangladesh"

00:00The two different countries, you know, India is too big, too diverse, too complex.
00:10India is much more aware of democracy and the roots of democracy.
00:21I wouldn't compare India in the same league, mainly because of the population of 1.4 billion
00:34and with the kind of diversity we have.
00:36But there is always a danger of authoritarian attitude.
00:42Look at in America, you know, no one ever thought, you know, I came to America 60 years
00:48ago and I never thought that there will be a day in America where they'll be concerned
00:54about authoritarian attitude.
01:01We believe American institutions are fairly robust, whether it is against judiciary or
01:10security, students, universities.
01:19American institutions are independent, full of lots of talent and courage.
01:29You also need courage.
01:30A lot of our institutions don't have courage to stand up to what is right and they buckle
01:38up.
01:39So going back to your question, I think India is very different.
01:44But anything could happen.
01:45I didn't expect this to happen in Bangladesh.
01:48We didn't expect this to happen, for example, in Egypt, the way it happened.
01:53You know, I mean, there are many examples like this in the recent history where things
01:59just erupt and people analyze after the fact and come up with reasons.
02:13I don't have a crystal ball.
