Transcript
00:00The young Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland is one of the best and most popular figures on the PGA Tour.
00:06With six professional wins and a Ryder Cup appearance already under his belt,
00:10his future looks very bright indeed. Let's get to know him a little bit better here with these
00:16eight facts. Born in Oslo, Norway in 1997, Hovland began playing golf at the age of 11 after his
00:23father, who worked in America, bought him some clubs. His dad taught him how to play and he
00:28regularly practiced at an indoor driving range in Oslo. He learned English by watching movies,
00:34including a lot of historical dramas such as Lincoln and Amistad. Hovland attended Oklahoma
00:39State University, the same college as Ricky Fowler, hence why he wears a lot of orange.
00:45He was a teammate of fellow young star Matthew Wolff, who plays on tour
00:49currently, and Hovland still lives in Stillwater, Oklahoma today. Hovland won the US Amateur in 2018,
00:56becoming the first Norwegian to win that event in the process. This earned him invitations to the
01:012019 Masters, Open and US Open. At that 2019 US Open, he finished in a tie for 12th with a total
01:09of 280. This was the lowest score ever recorded by an amateur in the tournament's 119-year history,
01:16beating Jack Nicklaus's 282 from 1960. He turned pro as the world's number one ranked amateur after
01:23winning the low amateur honours at the Masters and the US Open. He became the first man since
01:29Matt Kuchar in 1998 to achieve that feat. When it comes to music, Viktor Hovland is a big fan of the
01:35metal genre. His favourite bands are Metallica, System of a Down and Tool. In September 2019,
01:42Hovland equaled Bob Estes' 1983 PGA Tour record of 17 consecutive rounds in the 60s. Hovland would
01:49then go on to break that record, which now sits at 19 consecutive rounds in the 60s. And that's
01:54a record that will take some beating. His favourite golfer growing up was Sergio Garcia,
02:00and sticking with his enjoyment of all things Spanish, Hovland's favourite golf course is
02:04Valderrama. So there you have it, eight facts you may or may not have known about the young
02:10Norwegian golfer, Viktor Hovland. One of my favourite golfers and a very popular man on tour.
