Arsenal v Wolves - Liam Keen and Nathan Judah preview
Transcript
00:00Hello I'm Nathan Duda, I'm here with Wolves Reporter, it's Mr Liam Keane, different background
00:13today, no heat, no rain, no storms, we're back at Molineux, we're back at Compton actually.
00:18Gary Neil done his first press conference, head of the game against Arsenal, everybody's
00:22ready to go.
00:23Yes they are.
00:24Feels like we've been going five or six weeks, which is what we have, but we are back, good
00:27to see Gary again, let's go straight on with the team news of course, and I guess the headline
00:31news, I say headline news, maybe from a potentially starting point of view, everybody was worried
00:37about Mateus Kunja, but it looks like he's fully fit and ready to be selected.
00:41Yes it does, back from his injuries, hamstring adductor sustained, against West Ham wasn't
00:47it, in America, been training this week, back on the grass, Gary says it's been a good week
00:53for him and he's trained well, if I had to hedge my bets I'd say maybe he'd be bench
00:59rather than start, but it seemed positive, so I don't think you can rule out that he
01:03starts the game.
01:04So yes, absolutely positive news, because we saw how good he was against West Ham, alongside
01:09Larson in those first 30 minutes, and obviously scored in that game as well, so he's one of
01:14Wolves' best players, so to have him back available, whether it's from the start or
01:16from the bench, is always going to be good news for Wolves.
01:20And then talking of Larson, yes there was a small update on him and Lamina as well,
01:23because Larson had a bit of a tight groin ahead of the Valercano game, Gary didn't want
01:27to play him, he insisted he was going to play, and he did play, and then Lamina came off
01:30with some cramp in his hamstring, Gary's insisting they're both fine, both good to go, so the
01:35only omission that we're expecting is Nelson Smaylor with his suspension.
01:39And then the ongoing story I guess in pre-season, we went to Marbella, we saw Daniel Padence
01:44from nowhere, and no Gonzalo Guedes, he gets sent off, then he's got a calf injury, we
01:49go to America, and Gonzalo Guedes is there, he goes, Daniel Padence stays back, where
01:54are those two in relation to tomorrow and going forward?
01:57Yes, it's been a funny summer hasn't it, two players that probably weren't expected to
02:01get an opportunity, all of a sudden have had an opportunity, back here in England they've
02:07both been training again, back on the grass, Daniel Padence after his calf injury as you
02:10say, and Gary reveals in the press conference that they will both be in the matchday squad
02:15tomorrow.
02:16Bit of a surprise for both.
02:17Yes, I think it's a surprise for both, I would have said Guedes would have been and Padence
02:20maybe not, but for them both to be in, absolutely a surprise, but are they both quality players
02:26that hopefully if they're happy you can get the best out of, yes, and there's going to
02:30be good news for Wolves.
02:31So I would hedge my bets to say that means Chiquinho probably travels and doesn't make
02:36the squad if Padence is going to be in there, but maybe Gary will line up a whole bench
02:40full of wingers, I don't know.
02:42So yes, a big development really, and it gives them obviously, Gary said there, they've given
02:47themselves an opportunity with the way they've trained and the way they've been around the
02:49place, regardless of the past, the opportunity's there, so far they've taken it, they're going
02:53to be in the squad, and it's going to be an interesting but uncertain couple of weeks
02:57because their futures are definitely not guaranteed and we'll have to see how the next couple
03:01of weeks go.
03:02Yes, it's going to be interesting isn't it.
03:05In terms of Premier League experience, especially Daniel Padence has got plenty of that, so
03:10I understand Gary Neill's going to be taking a big squad to Arsenal and there'll be quite
03:14a few people who will travel and not make that bench, do you think that Daniel Padence
03:19and Gonzalo Guedes will be two of those who might make the bench, or do you think maybe
03:23one and one in terms of missing out on that bench?
03:27He said they're both from the matchday squad, so they're both on the bench, they're both
03:29in, done.
03:30I'm surprised you've asked me about that, I've just said it, I've just told you.
03:33Well I know matchday squad, but you could say matchday squad could be the people travelling
03:36and...
03:37I don't think he'd phrase it as matchday squad if it means that one of them's travelling
03:40and not getting in, I think it means they're both on the bench.
03:44Or starting, but I think that's unlikely.
03:47But yeah, you are right, it's going to be a big squad, Bibicac, Rory, for example, is
03:50going to travel, don't expect him to be there, he's only had a few days really of training,
03:55expect him to be there but not in the squad.
03:57A player like Luke Cundall who didn't make the squad, or didn't make the bench or the
04:00squad for the Ray Valercano game, I expect him to travel, but again be a question mark
04:04whether he gets in or not.
04:06So yeah, there'll be quite a few players travelling but not making it into the team, because at
04:10the moment Wolves are stocked full of players.
04:12There were three letters that we spoke about a lot last year, hopefully not too much this
04:16year, but Gary Neill basically said, as you've got to say, slate, wipe, clean, and he expects
04:21the system, the system to be better.
04:24Do you agree with the expression, the sentiment, the belief?
04:29I like the optimism, I really do.
04:32An interesting point he said that I don't expect Wolves to be treated any differently
04:35and it's to be 100% fair, obviously Wolves were the ones that tried to get rid of Ayr,
04:41and I would expect that to be the case, I don't think there would be necessarily any
04:44bias towards Wolves, but we do know that up until this point, VR has not worked very well
04:49at all.
04:50So with these small changes they've made, hopefully it makes it more clearer, there's
04:54less intervention, it might improve the game, but we can't really judge it until we see
04:58it and until we see the inevitable clangour at Arsenal when something's given against
05:02Wolves.
05:03So yeah, it'll be interesting, it'll be interesting.
05:04You've got a spider crawling up your collar, can I flick it?
05:07Get it, go on, get it, don't flick it into me, flick it away.
05:09Oh, it's gone, it's gone.
05:10I mean, he wanted to flick your earlobe there, but I didn't.
05:12That scared me, that scared me.
05:13Don't need that.
05:14Yeah, I did see you looking down there, I thought, what's wrong with my shirt?
05:17Yeah, so, look, we've had what, five years of it now, of it not exactly working, so my
05:25optimism isn't quite as high as Gary and Ayr, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt
05:29and see how the season begins.
05:30Finally, obviously a couple of weeks before transfer deadline day, we're all looking forward
05:33to it.
05:34Gary and Neil want to get a couple of signings at least across the line, don't they?
05:38Yeah, we've been saying for a while now they want a winger, they want a centre-back, they're
05:43obviously looking at this young centre-back as well over in France, but equally they want
05:46a more experienced senior centre-back, and they're working on these deals to get them
05:50done.
05:51Gary was very clear to say that, you know, we've got our plan, me and Matt Hobbs have
05:55been working on it, we've got our targets, we're now just trying to get them over the
05:59line, but he also said that nothing's imminent, nothing's close, and that's not our massive
06:04surprise really, the way things tend to drag in the window, and Wolves obviously did some
06:08very early business as well.
06:10So they're without Kilman, they're without Neto, they did bring those three players in
06:13early on, but it looks like they'll be without a signing or two for at least Arsenal, with
06:18it being tomorrow, and we'll see how the next couple of weeks play out.
06:21So we had a bumper preview on the podcast yesterday, we've listened to Gary and Neil
06:24today, give me your starting line-up, or Gary and Neil's starting line-up, for the game
06:29at the Emirates, 3pm, tomorrow baby!
06:32I think we're aligned on this.
06:34Sarring goal?
06:35Correct.
06:36Correct, thank you, we've seen the team sheer, haven't we?
06:38Yeah, I've spoken to Gary before.
06:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:40Dock at right back, I've seen Samedo suspended, I think it's going to be a four with Totti
06:44and Yersin at centre-back, 8-0 left-back, Lamina, Gao Gomez, I've gone Pablo Sarabia
06:52but I could see a world where Belaguard plays only because of having a bit more energy to
06:57more legs, especially tracking back, Wolves have been without the ball for quite a lot
07:00of it.
07:01But I'm going to go with Sarabia, but I can see, I'm giving myself a little bit of wiggle
07:04room there, as you can tell.
07:06Journalistic license.
07:07Exactly.
07:08Hwang in behind Larson with Rodrigo Gomez on the left, yeah, I think that'll be the
07:13team.
07:14And I'd be surprised to see, well, not surprised because centre-back's a talking point, but
07:19I'd be surprised to see a lot of changes anywhere else, I think that'll be near enough for the
07:22team.
07:23Yeah.
07:24I don't know if I'm going to change or not.
07:25Oh, you're going to change again!
07:26You flip-flopped again, that's three times now.
07:28Oh, you can't change again.
07:30I think Cunha might start.
07:31Ooh, okay, I can forgive that, I can forgive you changing for that, there's definitely
07:35a chance of that, yeah.
07:36I think Cunha might start.
07:38And I think...
07:39I think we might see Stran and Larson on the bench.
07:46No!
07:47Where's this come from?
07:49Just with that, I don't know, it's got a bit of a feeling, it was chatty, maybe I'm, maybe
07:54I'm...
07:55No, no, no, I was completely right there.
07:56I'm 100% not, I've had some support on socials.
07:58Mate, not as much as I've had, not as much as I've had, listen to the podcast of course
08:02and also get your tickets for the live event next, a week on Thursday.
08:06A week on Thursday, yeah.
08:07Toronto Deadline Day Live, baby, at Molineux, Wolves Pody Live, and we'll see you at the
08:10Emirates tomorrow.
