The Grindr Killer Scandal: A Faking It Special Discovery+ trailer

Over the course of sixteen months between June 2014 - September 2015 in Barking, East London, Stephen Port drugged, raped and murdered four young, gay men. Forensic psychologist Kerry Daynes states it is “one of the most shocking cases of serial murder in modern times”, Port took advantage of the anonymous world of gay hook-up sites like Grindr to lure his unsuspecting victims. Described by a neighbour as having a “child-like persona”, what lay behind a shy, introverted personality was a dark, calculated serial killer. But could he have been stopped sooner? As Daynes points out in this new Faking It documentary, what makes it “all the more shocking is the fact that the police missed every single opportunity to catch him.”

00:00OK, up here, it shows your home address and it shows the abbey,
00:07in particular, the area around the walls of the abbey.
00:11We're already getting a reaction from Port.
00:13In particular, the area around the walls of the abbey.
00:17Now, this is getting near the knuckle now.
00:19And I don't even have to zoom in for this one,
00:21but if you look down here at the trousers,
00:23you can see that vibration.
00:25We call this a psychogenic tremor,
00:28and this tremor is trying to release the pent-up energy
00:31in the large muscles of the legs that's been created
00:34by the spike of anxiety by being presented
00:37with a picture of the crime scene, the churchyard around the abbey.
00:42Next, the fake suicide note.
00:46I mean, Stephen, did you write this letter?
00:48Yeah, CRT11. No, I didn't.
00:50The photos of it, it's found with Daniel.
00:52No.
00:55No.
00:59Are you telling us the truth, Stephen? I'm telling you the truth, yes.
01:02About the letter? Yes.
01:05If we look at the legs again, he's off again with his tremor.
01:09And this psychogenic tremble, you can see it there,
01:12very quick, four or five times a second.
01:15So the letter's presented to him
01:17and he moves back away from the table.
01:19So that's probably a good, you know, 30 centimetres.
01:22So that retreat is moving away from this dirty evidence
01:27that if it's proven that I've written this, I'm in serious trouble.
