The Health Ministry has denied a media report claiming that a 14-year-old who was arrested for trespassing and impersonating a Sultan Idris Shah Hospital (HSIS) staff member in Serdang recently performed medical procedures, including prescribing medication to patients.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni informed reporters at the media briefing on mental health and MySAVE programme as well as safe and responsible media reporting on suicidal behaviour on Thursday (Aug 15) that the ministry has not received any reports confirming the allegations and that an investigation is ongoing.
He said the girl's ruse was uncovered when the staff became suspicious of her behaviour and unusually youthful appearance, adding that HSIS is improving security measures at the facility following the incident.

00:00Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
00:05Mohon berkat Yang Maha Esang
00:07Can you explain a little bit about mental health among teenagers?
00:12Especially lately we have a case involving a 14-year-old boy
00:17who served as a health worker at Sedang Hospital
00:21and he did have a record of mental health and he did not follow up
00:26Yes, that is the story of the case
00:30I cannot explain further because it is being investigated by the police
00:35Even so, for the patients who have mental health problems
00:44the treatment sessions must be conducted regularly
00:51We are also concerned that the treatment of these patients is still under stigma
00:59due to the fear of accepting the fact that mental health is not normal
01:04What we want to inform the public is that
01:08mental health can happen to anyone
01:12whether they are physically healthy or not
01:15and they need treatment
01:18Our primary health centers provide these treatments
01:25and for the incidents that happened at Sedang
01:28those are the incidents that have happened before
01:32and the cause of the incidents
01:37can be related to the mental health of the individual
01:44There is also a report that the teenager was able to provide treatment to the patient
01:49That is still under investigation
01:54I do not accept the report
01:58Even so, what we have found is that
02:02the patient did go to our facilities
02:09but did not follow any procedure
02:12He was the only one who tried to get treatment
02:18Even so, he was able to escape
02:23and his conspiracy was exposed
02:26when our staff suspected that something was wrong
02:33We also need to understand that
02:35the Sedang health center is a very complex center
02:41and it is very large
02:43and for the identification of the patient
02:47he was identified by the relevant units
02:52He came as an M.O.
02:55and there was a doubt
02:59because his physical appearance was too young
03:02So, it is not true that he tried to get treatment
03:05and followed the procedure?
03:08No, that did not happen
03:10It is obvious that it was not easy for him to do that
03:15because he did not have any skills
03:18He only pretended to be an M.O.
03:26when he tried to get treatment in an emergency
03:32So, what are the steps to improve the condition of the Sedang health center?
03:35Now, we will improve the use of PAS
03:41and the Sedang hospital will think of the best way
03:47because the health center and the large hospitals
03:51are used to receiving trainers
03:54and the number of patients is not hundreds
03:58but thousands in the facilities
04:01So, we will take the necessary steps
04:05to prevent this from happening again
