Jewels stolen in Germany's Green Vault heist back on display
Nearly five years after millions of euros' worth of jewelry was stolen in a museum heist in eastern Germany, visitors could once again admire nearly all of the precious pieces in person this Tuesday (August 13).
In November 2019, thieves stole pieces that contained more than 4,300 diamonds with an estimated value of over 113 million euros ($124 million), from the Gruenes Gewoelbe (Green Vault) museum in Dresden, in the eastern German state of Saxony.
Police have said most of the jewels stolen from the museum, which houses one of Europe's greatest art collections, have been recovered. Five men, all members of the same family, were sentenced to several years behind bars in May 2023 for their involvement.

00:30I'm going to show you a little bit of what's going on here.
01:00He was the king of the sun at the time.
01:03And the king of the sun, but even more, even more colorful,
01:06and the greatest and most important collection in the world.
01:10And that's what he did, and that's what we can see here now.
01:16Let's see, this is really mobile.
01:19That means it radiates by itself.
01:21Now we have to ask Mr. Winzler how a crown or a bow
01:25carries this beauty that is here.
01:27And because the king, when he was no longer quite so young,
01:30could no longer walk so well, he also needed a crown.
01:33And of course it is also decorated like that.
01:35And gold.
01:36Exactly, with gold too.
01:38It took several years.
01:40That's why they were so expensive.
01:42Like dino researchers when they want to dig out a dino.
01:46Exactly.
01:48There is even a dino park where ...
02:27Let's go.
