00:00When Malaysia's independence was 67 years old this month,
00:07the indigenous people of the Peninsular were still hoping to enjoy
00:12infrastructure and socio-economic development,
00:15as was the case with other communities in Malaysia.
00:19Cameron Highlands MP Ramlinod, when interviewed by FMT, claimed
00:24that the development of the community was still not satisfactory
00:28when 18 indigenous people in this country were still far behind
00:34in terms of development.
00:37With 66 years of independence, I see that we are far behind.
00:43Ramlinod cited the 2024 Congress Economy Buin Putra report
00:47which identified certain issues affecting the community,
00:51such as land issues, economy, education and infrastructure facilitation,
00:56severe poverty, lack of legislation and weakness
01:00in protecting the interests of indigenous people,
01:03deteriorating customs and culture,
01:05and the role of the Indigenous Development Office, which is still less effective.
01:11The Speaker of the People's Council views that
01:14the effort to advance the indigenous people must be made the basis of the government
01:19which must be implemented in order to translate the specialness of the community
01:23into the government.
01:29For the indigenous people, why is there no Malaysian office?
01:37Why is there no Chinese office?
01:40Why is there no Indian or other offices?
01:45Ramlinod said, since the state of Madagascar,
01:48the politics of indigenous people only depends on
01:50if there is a representative who is willing to represent them
01:54with only one senator in the state council.
01:57However, since he was elected to represent the indigenous people in the state council in 2019,
02:03he feels responsible to represent the voices of around 217,000 indigenous people across the country.
02:12As the first indigenous person to sit in the state council,
02:15I take responsibility to represent them.
02:19At least now, I have direct access to ministers,
02:26ministers' committees, and heads of offices to raise the issues of indigenous people.
02:31Ramli, who is trying to move to an institution involving the rights and interests of indigenous people,
02:36urges his community to embrace the specialness and ease provided by the government for them.
02:43It can't happen today.
02:45It can happen tomorrow.
02:47Only a few decades left.
