00:00Professional career, no knockouts from Aguas Caliente and Dario Hernandez, 1-2, 1 K.O. from Estepic in Mexico.
00:14Again Campos in the pink frilled white shorts, Hernandez in the blue and white as we get things underway here from Mexico City.
00:30Again Hernandez in the blue and white and Campos in the pink trill and white.
00:41Good aggressive start from both men, Campos on his back foot and Hernandez pressing forward.
00:49Good crisp jab from Adrian Campos to rattle the cage of Dario Hernandez.
01:06Good job work again from Campos, keeping that left hand very busy.
01:13We've seen a couple digs to the body already from Campos, trying to use that long reach to keep Hernandez away from him and a little tag to the stomach doesn't hurt either.
01:24Tag to the stomach and that jab is sharp, good crisp overhead right by Campos as well.
01:31Hernandez feeling the effects early here in round one from the good effective work from Campos.
01:43Hernandez in the blue and white pressing forward, good counter left hook from Hernandez.
01:52Campos seemingly unfazed, gets back in the center of the ring, but now it's Hernandez doing the good effective work coming forward.
02:02A jab by Hernandez.
02:04For Hernandez, we see the reach advantage that Campos carries obviously, he's got to close that distance somehow.
02:10He's been feeling the effects of the jab so far here in this first round.
02:14We'll see if he can start to close that distance and cut the ring off a little bit.
02:18Another sharp jab by Campos as well.
02:21Another good jab from Campos.
02:23The jab, that left hand effective both as a hook and a jab, that hook though strayed a little low according to referee Alfredo Uzquete.
02:34I have a feeling though that will deter Hernandez or Campos from throwing to the body this time.
02:42Good, there's the left hook again.
02:44Hernandez doing well with that left hook.
02:49It's been his weapon of choice here in round one.
02:52Both fighters having their moments, good left hook from Campos.
02:56Left to the body by Hernandez, blocked by Campos.
02:59Campos uppercut just missed.
03:01A left hook just short from Hernandez.
03:04That's when Hernandez has to take advantage because he's been seeing the jab lots.
03:08When you do get a chance to get inside, he's really got to make it work.
03:10We've seen him fire the left hook in close a few times now.
03:14As we close out round one here, we should hear the clacker, there it is.
03:18Body work by Hernandez.
03:20As we close out round one here, we should hear the clacker, there it is.
03:24Body work by Hernandez.
03:26Hernandez doing a good job of following Campos around and cutting off the ring fairly well.
03:34I think though that that was a round up along to Campos.
03:37I think he carried the action from a distance and while Hernandez landed some shots,
03:41Campos though I think seemed to carry the balance of the action there in the opening stanza.
03:46For sure, Hernandez was the one marching forward for the slight edge in time on the front foot.
03:55But again, Campos doing all the right things, using the jab, going to the body when need be.
04:00And then once Hernandez does finally get in there and closes up the distance a bit,
04:05you see Campos is able to regain himself and get back to space where he's most effective.
04:13You see that jab from Campos, just a sample of it's effectiveness.
04:18The body shot straight a little low.
04:22There's that inside work I was talking about with Hernandez.
04:25When he does get in close, he needs to take advantage of it.
04:28We saw the left hand land there, I believe there was at least one other time where
04:32he sent some power behind his left hook.
04:35I don't know if it landed, but we'll see if Hernandez is able to get back to work on the inside
04:40with more of the jab and range work from Campos.
04:43Round 2 underway between Adrian Campos in the pink and white,
04:47and Dario Hernandez in the blue and white.
04:50Jason Abelson and Adam Hunt here with you, hope you're enjoying ESPN Plus' coverage
04:55of this great night of boxing action that will conclude with the tremendous
05:00IBF flyweight world title between Angel Ayala and Dave Apolinario.
05:05But in the meantime, for four round featherweight action, Adrian Campos again
05:10taking on Dario Hernandez.
05:14Campos in the pink and white, Hernandez in the blue and white.
05:19Wild right hand missing from Hernandez.
05:24Campos good right-left combination.
05:30Hernandez pawing forward, the head movement not really there right now,
05:33he's getting stuck by Hernandez.
05:36A clinch, good work on the inside, Hernandez just missing,
05:39but getting Campos on his bicycle a little bit.
05:45He had his moments early, some moments in the early part of round 1
05:50did Hernandez, and he seems to be picking up and riding some of that momentum
05:55here in round 2, although...
05:57I think he's kind of understood that if he wants to get in close,
06:00he's got to take a shot or two, and so you've got to talk about the trade-off.
06:03If I'm going to take one or two shots to get in close, I've got to land
06:06two, three, four, make it worth my while while I'm inside,
06:09and he is trying to stay active when he is able to get in close,
06:12but Campos is elusive.
06:14You know, it's really a matter of Campos establishing and utilizing that jab
06:18that'll keep Hernandez at bay, it's when he takes that time off, like there,
06:22that Hernandez can get in, but Hernandez pays for it
06:25once Ocampos starts throwing that jab out there.
06:28Headbutt! Heads came together there, referee Urusqueta
06:33noticing it and calling time.
06:37Let's see if there's any blood, I don't think there is.
06:41But the heads definitely clacked.
06:43Oop, and there seems to be a cut
06:49being suffered by Campos.
06:52It seems to be over the left eye, oh yeah, there it is, the right eye.
06:56And...
07:00A couple swipes to the tissue,
07:02and we're going to continue things here in round two,
07:05but a definite clash of heads
07:08between Hernandez and Campos there
07:10that caused the cut, and noted by referee
07:13Alfredo Urusqueta.
07:17And they're back at it.
07:21Now Hernandez throwing a jab, we haven't seen that that often
07:24out of the fighter, the shorter fighter, good right hand
07:26over the top by Hernandez, another good right hand.
07:31Let's see if that blood on Campos'
07:34right eye, and it's flowing freely,
07:37doesn't inspire Hernandez to be more aggressive here in the second round.
07:45Good stiff jab by Campos.
07:47Again, the heads coming together.
07:49Campos doing all the right things
07:51as the taller fighter.
07:53He's not throwing that jab out right now,
07:55and you're getting Hernandez just walking in on him.
07:59Good work, but good counter left
08:01by Hernandez, and a right hand up top,
08:03and I'm not sure Campos isn't in a bit of trouble here.
08:07They usually say
08:09the ones that you wave on
08:11when you go out of your way to acknowledge
08:13that that didn't hurt, those are usually the ones
08:15where they're feeling it on the inside
08:17and trying to put on a brave face.
08:19Great work by Hernandez to end
08:21the second round, and I'm not sure that headbutt
08:23wasn't a turning point.
08:25We saw all of a sudden Campos become
08:27a little hesitant in moving his arms,
08:29maybe a little panic setting in
08:31as that blood was flowing freely,
08:33and Hernandez definitely took that as a cue
08:35to step on the gas.
08:41Jason Abelson had an out-of-breath
08:43Jason Abelson and Adam Hunt
08:45here with you on ESPN+,
08:47the coverage of this great event
08:49from Mexico City that will culminate
08:51in the IBF world title fight between
08:53Angel Ayala and Dave Apolinario
08:55for the flyweight
08:57championship of the world.
08:59Pick up the action here, a little action here
09:01from round two.
09:03Good hook by Campos, and there's the heads
09:05coming together. Boom.
09:07Yeah, and you can see
09:09the cut
09:12immediately after that, the heads make contact.
09:14That was a lot of Vaseline over the
09:16right eye of Campos.
09:18Adrian Campos in the
09:20pink and white,
09:22Dario Hernandez in the blue and white.
09:24Round three underway here
09:26from Mexico City. Right back to the jab
09:28from Campos, but Hernandez again
09:30started to find some success at the beginning
09:32of round two, and then again at the
09:34end. See if he can
09:36press the issue here in the third. Big right hand.
09:38You know, and when he throws behind that jab
09:40Hernandez, he's very effective.
09:42And all of a sudden
09:44that left hand from Campos
09:46that was so effective in round one
09:48is in the holster here. It's starting to slow down
09:50a bit. In round three, and
09:52that has been the big difference in how
09:54this fight's changed over the last
09:56round and a half, as Hernandez
09:58more and more confident pressing the pace
10:00forward and landing.
10:02If not landing, at least applying
10:04effective pressure on Campos.
10:11Hernandez
10:13closed the distance with a left hook to the body, but
10:15Campos was able to land a little
10:17check hook on the way in.
10:19Campos
10:21throwing the jab a little bit more. You've got
10:23to know that his corner is screaming at him to
10:25get the hands moving.
10:29Jab just missing from
10:31Campos.
10:33Good work.
10:35Both met there.
10:40Accommodation by Campos.
10:42Campos circling
10:44the ring a little bit more than he was before.
10:46Maintaining some distance that wasn't
10:48there previous.
10:50Hernandez probing
10:52forward, missing with a right and a left.
10:56Big swing from
10:58Hernandez. Yeah, counter left by
11:00Hernandez over a lazy
11:02Campos right.
11:04Right hand
11:06missing from Hernandez.
11:08Hernandez needs to reestablish
11:10that jab.
11:12Coming in with one shot I think
11:14is... Yeah, he's found the
11:16most success throwing in bunches. If you're going to go
11:18one for one with the jab we've seen from
11:20Campos, I don't know if that's the way
11:22to victory, but when he throws two
11:24three at a time and really
11:26focuses on getting up in Campos'
11:28face,
11:30he's shown some pop. There's been a few
11:32flurries where Campos is kind of
11:34not throwing back and just trying to cover up
11:36or get out of the way and that's when Hernandez is having
11:38the most success.
11:40It's coming together again.
11:44But no effect. Right hand
11:46by Hernandez just missing.
11:48Snappy jab from Campos.
11:50And that for me is
11:52the key for Campos. Good left hook from
11:54Hernandez. The heads come together again.
11:56And Campos
11:58really felt that.
12:00Hernandez pressing the pace. I don't
12:02know if the referee saw that, but I saw the heads
12:04definitely came together there.
12:06Big overhand
12:08right by Hernandez.
12:10That right hook,
12:12he's throwing it. Whether it's landing
12:14or not, it doesn't matter. It could
12:16land any second. Good work at the end of the
12:18round by Hernandez. May have been enough
12:20to nick it
12:22on the scorecards.
12:24At a round that, before
12:26that seemed to be controlled by Campos, but
12:28you never know. When guys don't do a lot of
12:30landing, that one big shot
12:32with a tangible effect, like the one
12:34that Hernandez landed,
12:36may persuade the judges
12:38to give him the nod.
12:40It's a four round fight. And a lot less volume
12:42from Campos in that third round.
12:44It's a different output that
12:46we saw in round one and in
12:48parts of round two as well.
12:50It was Hernandez, you know,
12:52it could be
12:54interesting to know the accuracy numbers from Hernandez,
12:56but a big part of it is just
12:58getting in there
13:00and making something happen. If you're Hernandez,
13:02you're not going to do it from range. You've got to get
13:04in close. There's that check hook from Campos.
13:06It was a good one. Let's see what
13:08happened there at the end of the round.
13:10See if they got the highlights for that.
13:12There was a rally by Hernandez at the end, and that's
13:14going to be an important round because rounds one
13:16and two were obviously one to one fighter and then the
13:18other. Campos obviously winning the first
13:20and Hernandez seemingly obviously
13:22winning the second. It's how you score those tight
13:24rounds like the third that will really
13:26play a huge role in a four round fight like
13:28this. So, you know, depending
13:30on how you scored that third round,
13:32each fighter might need this
13:34round to pull a draw out.
13:38Jason Abelson and Adam Hunt here with you
13:40from Mexico City.
13:42We have Cedrin Campos in the pink and white
13:44and Dario Hernandez in the blue and white
13:48in the last round of their four round
13:50tilt to open things off here from
13:52Mexico City. And in this first 30
13:54seconds, we've seen three and there's four
13:56strong jabs from Campos again
13:58getting back to what had worked earlier on in the fight.
14:00Again, this is one
14:02round that really could decide whether this is
14:04a draw, a win,
14:06for either guy. And you see the
14:08effective movements by Campos and that jab
14:10really creating that space
14:12and causing problems for Hernandez.
14:16And that's where
14:18you see the difference in styles and
14:20effectiveness for
14:22Campos paying off with that
14:24jab is flicking and that distance is
14:26maintained. Good movement
14:28from Campos landing
14:30and leaving.
14:34And I think you probably read the riot act between
14:36rounds in this corner
14:38that you've got to
14:40pump that jab and get out of the way.
14:42For sure. This looks a lot like
14:44round one, the Campos we saw
14:46in round one.
14:48It exactly is.
14:50Staying out of the way of Hernandez who keeps plodding
14:52forward and using that super effective
14:54jab that we've seen over and over again all night.
14:56Hernandez is
14:58struggling to get inside and when he does
15:00Campos is doing a good job of getting
15:02out of the way, although we took one there.
15:04Took one there and his feet aren't moving and all of a sudden
15:06this is when you see Hernandez rally.
15:08Hernandez needs a stationary target
15:10to set his feet to throw those punches.
15:12When Campos is moving he doesn't get that
15:14opportunity, but when he stands still
15:16like that, boom, that's what happens.
15:18The power punches of Hernandez
15:20at the end and the first two minutes
15:22that seem to go Campos way
15:24seems to be slipping right now
15:26in favor of Hernandez.
15:36Good jab by Hernandez.
15:38Another good jab, that's a keep for him as well.
15:40Stem that movement
15:42either cutting off the ring or throwing that knee jab.
15:46Good body work
15:48by Hernandez.
15:50There might have been a clash of heads there, Campos nods to his forehead.
15:52Yeah, I think so too, Adam.
15:56Big shot
15:58by Hernandez here.
16:00The gloves dropping for Campos.
16:02And these power shots
16:04have way more of an impact
16:06on the judges than the movement that Campos
16:08was showing in the first minute
16:10and a half of this round.
16:12If he can land something significant here before the bell, this could get interesting.
16:14Good fight to open things off here for Mexico City.
16:16Big right attempt from Hernandez.
16:18Good effort from both men.
16:20That's a tough one to score.
16:22You know what though?
16:24Personally, I'd give that to Hernandez.
16:26Just the power shots down the stretch
16:28seem to have more of an impact
16:30than the movement
16:32that Campos was doing early on.
16:34Movement in the jab
16:36for two minutes seemed to me, in my mind,
16:38counteracted by the power
16:40by the outward power of Hernandez
16:42and the accuracy of Hernandez
16:44down the stretch.
16:46We'll see how the judges see it.
16:48Exactly, and that's the thing
16:50about judging.
16:52It's supposed to be the same criteria
16:54but sometimes it feels like there might be different criteria
16:56in different judges' minds.
16:58Do you value the two minutes of the
17:00pawing action of Campos
17:02taking control of the fight, or do you
17:04value the actual damage that was done
17:06towards the end of the round by Hernandez?
17:08Not trying to create a scandal in case it goes
17:10the other way from what I see.
17:12It could go the other way.
17:14It's just that
17:16in my mind it seemed that
17:18it was Hernandez that did enough
17:20down the stretch to get the nod.
17:22Good work on the inside.
17:24That was the key for Hernandez all night.
17:26Getting in close.
17:28Absolutely, and the turning point would have been
17:30that headbutt in my mind in round two
17:32that caused that cut
17:34over Campos' right eye because
17:36for a moment in that second round
17:38for a good portion of that second round
17:40he just was not as engaged, Campos was
17:42as he was before that headbutt
17:44and Hernandez really, really stepped
17:46on the gas in that round
17:48and over the course of the fight he had those spurts of action.
17:50He did.
17:52I think stemming from the confidence he had in that second round
17:54to maybe carry this fight.
17:56Oh for sure, and with the headbutt
17:58it might not have been actual damage
18:00more of a mentality thing.
18:02Let's go up to ring announcer Pablo Flores with the decision.
18:10Las tarjetas dicen
18:12de la siguiente manera
18:16El juez Humberto Olivares
18:18califica la pelea
18:2039 a 37
