00:00Hello everybody and welcome back to the second episode of my proposed Italian tank tech tree series.
00:06Last episode we looked at the tankettes, armoured cars, light tanks and medium tanks.
00:10Today we'll look at the self-propelled guns, assault guns and self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
00:15I'm probably going to do the premiums as a separate episode because there's quite a few vehicles here and it's going to take a while to get through them all.
00:22Now the self-propelled guns are probably the main strength of the Italians from the looks of it.
00:28They've also got quite a few good self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
00:32Let's look at them in more in-depth and get straight into it.
00:36The first tank destroyer we're looking at is the Sempervente L40 Dar 47-32.
00:42This was based on the chassis of the L6-40 which only had a 20mm or sometimes 37mm gun.
00:50As we talked about before, these guns weren't up to scratch in North Africa against the British tanks.
00:56They practically weren't able to penetrate the British tanks at almost point-blank range.
01:02So they decided to make a tank destroyer out of it.
01:05They've added the 47mm gun that was used in the M13 tank.
01:11It was quite a good gun.
01:13The secondary armament was one machine gun.
01:16It could do speeds of up to 26.3mph.
01:22It had frontal armour of 30mm.
01:25Not quite as good as the Fiat L6 40mm of armour but still reasonably well armoured.
01:31Because it hasn't got a turret, it has a lower silhouette so should be harder to hit.
01:38I've put this in tier 1 because at the end of the day it only has a 47mm gun.
01:44I think it would do quite well at that tier.
01:47It's the same gun as the M13.
01:49It probably could be in tier 1, either low or high.
01:55I think it would be a good addition for the Italian tech tree.
01:59Not the greatest of tank destroyers but I think it would be a good place to start from.
02:03The next tank we're looking at, the Semavente 75-18, isn't actually listed in any of my books.
02:09I'm somewhat having to rely on internet sources unfortunately.
02:13It was armed with a 75mm howitzer.
02:1618 is the length of the gun.
02:19You can see it's quite a bit shorter than some of the other guns.
02:23It's kind of like the Panzer IV or Stug.
02:27The original Stug, so it sounds a bit like.
02:31The armour piercing wasn't all that great at 100m 59mm of penetration.
02:36But with heat it could do 120.
02:39I think that's actually better than the Stugs we've got in the game at the moment.
02:42At least the early variants.
02:44It had frontal armour of 50mm.
02:47A secondary armament of an 8mm or 6.5mm machine gun.
02:52And could do about 20mph.
02:54Built on the chassis of the M13 and later the M14.
02:59Seems like a pretty good tank.
03:01It's got good decent armour.
03:03A bit on the slow side perhaps but seems fast enough.
03:07I think it would be a good tank.
03:09I've put it in early tier 2.
03:12It could possibly be high tier 1.
03:14Depends how Gaijin decide to go about with it.
03:17But I think it would be a very good tank to have in the game.
03:20Or tank destroyer to have in the game.
03:22Now unfortunately the next tank destroyer.
03:25The Semivente 75-34 was also not mentioned in my books.
03:29But from looking at other sources.
03:32You can apparently use the same 75mm gun as on the P40.
03:37And at 100m had 90mm penetration.
03:40With armour piercing.
03:41Or 120 with HEAT.
03:43High Explosive Anti-Tank.
03:45Speed of 24mph.
03:48Frontal armour of 50mm.
03:51And secondary armament of the 8mm machine gun.
03:55Seems like a decent tank.
03:57I've put it in tier 2 just below the P26.
04:01Because the tank destroyers tend to be a bit more powerful than their contemporary tanks.
04:05In the same tier.
04:08So I've put it high tier 2.
04:10It could possibly go low tier 3.
04:12But there is another tank that is quite similar to it.
04:16That we will look at next.
04:18And that tank is the Semivente 75-46.
04:23This actually had a better gun.
04:25115mm of penetration.
04:28With armour piercing at 100m.
04:30Or again 120 with HEAT.
04:34Only a few of these are built.
04:37And I think these were again used quite a lot by the Germans.
04:40As with many of the later Italian tanks and tank destroyers.
04:44Frontal armour of 15-80mm.
04:47Had a secondary armament of 8mm machine gun again.
04:51And 24mph.
04:53So a bit of an improvement over the 75-34 in armour.
04:57About the same in speed.
04:59Better gun.
05:01I've put this at low tier 3.
05:06I can't really see it being too much lower than that.
05:08I think it would be a good tank destroyer for the Italians to have.
05:12Now I've actually gone a little bit out of chronological order with the next tank.
05:16I actually moved it recently.
05:18In the last episode.
05:20After the last episode.
05:22The Semivente 105-25.
05:25The reason I've gone out of chronological order is.
05:27Because it's quite a bit worse gun wise than its predecessors.
05:32That chronological wise.
05:35It only has 76mm penetration with armour piercing at 100m.
05:39Or 120 with heat.
05:41Well it's actually got 121.
05:43But only 1mm difference.
05:45It has 75mm of armour.
05:48Which is quite a bit better than its predecessors.
05:50Chronological wise.
05:52But this is a gun that's going to be important.
05:54It could also do 22mph.
05:56So it seems like an ok tank.
05:59I don't like really going out of chronological order.
06:02But I really felt I had to with this tank.
06:04Because it's just not going to work otherwise.
06:07But yeah.
06:09It would be a good tank for the Italians to have.
06:11In their tank tech tree.
06:13Now the next vehicle is the one I've been looking forward to the most.
06:16The Semivente M41M DA 90-53.
06:20This was armed with a 90mm cannon.
06:24I believe it was actually an anti-aircraft cannon.
06:26So kind of similar to the German 88mm flak guns.
06:31As you can see it's a bit exposed.
06:33The crew actually had to stand behind the gun to fire it and load it.
06:37My books actually disagree on how much ammo was carried.
06:41One says no ammo was carried.
06:43And it had to be carried in a specially armoured vehicle.
06:46That accompanied the tank.
06:49Another one says that 6 rounds could be carried.
06:52But again mostly in the armoured vehicle.
06:54So I don't know how Gaijin is going to deal with that.
06:58Basically it was meant to be a stand-off tank.
07:01Shooting from long distances.
07:04So the lack of crew protection wasn't supposed to be much of a problem.
07:09Now the 90mm gun was very powerful.
07:12I'm reading here from about 1000 metres.
07:16It was supposed to be able to penetrate 101mm of armour.
07:20While from 100 metres it could penetrate about 206mm of armour.
07:26So this is a very powerful gun.
07:29But like I said you will have to use it as a bit of a stand-off vehicle.
07:32Because it's very exposed.
07:35The actual armour on it is 30mm.
07:37So quite a bit less than the other tanks.
07:40I don't know if it refers to the gun shield or the actual tank itself.
07:45It's 6-30mm.
07:47So it could refer to maybe the tank being 30mm and the gun shield 6mm.
07:54I'm not entirely sure.
07:56It had a speed of about 22mph on maximum road speed.
08:02So decently fast as well.
08:05I'm looking forward to this tank immensely.
08:08Or tank destroyer immensely.
08:10It's one of my favourite Italian vehicles of the war.
08:13And I definitely would be very excited to see it in the game.
08:16Where it could actually be used really well.
08:20Now I've put it about tier 4.
08:23So it could be tier 3.
08:26Higher tier 3.
08:28Because it has got the very big gun.
08:30It is going to be used for long distance shooting.
08:32It could go a little bit lower perhaps.
08:34But we'll have to wait and see really.
08:36How Gaijin decides to implement it.
08:39So as we can see Italy did have some very good tank destroyers.
08:43I do think that is probably going to be one of their main strengths in the game.
08:48Because their tank destroyers are better than their tanks in most regards.
08:54I think they would be a very good addition for the Italian tech tree.
08:57And the thing to look out for the most.
08:59Now moving away from tank destroyers.
09:01We go to the self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
09:04And the first one we start off with is the 20mm Breda.
09:07On the SPA Dovaniuk Q35.
09:11I apologise for the mispronunciation.
09:16Now basically it is just a 20mm Breda anti-aircraft gun put on a truck.
09:22I haven't been able to find much information on the truck unfortunately.
09:25So I don't know the speeds and stuff.
09:27Although it is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun.
09:29It is not like it is going to need massive speed.
09:31It is not going to be well armoured exactly.
09:33The gun itself can fire about 200-220 rounds per minute.
09:37Which seems like an okay amount I suppose.
09:40Maybe a little bit on the slow side.
09:42Compared to the .50 caliber machine guns and stuff the Americans have.
09:46It should be able to do quite a decent amount of damage.
09:50It could also potentially be used in the anti-armour role.
09:55Although it probably wouldn't do that well.
09:57I think it could do about 36mm penetration at 100m.
10:02So not particularly good as an anti-tank weapon.
10:07But it could be used in that role potentially.
10:10I have put it in tier 2.
10:12Because if you put it too low you are going to have a gap between tier 1 and 3.
10:18So I have put it in low tier 2.
10:21Where it could do some good against the slower flying aircraft.
10:25Which it should have more chance of hitting hopefully.
10:28Now after the 20mm Breda.
10:31It kind of jumps up quite a bit in caliber on my tech tree.
10:36One because I thought this would be more unique for the Italian tech tree.
10:41Because the anti-aircraft guns can provide some sort of anti-tank capability.
10:46But also because I don't think Italy particularly had many smaller caliber self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
10:53I don't think they had anything particularly in between that was used as self-propelled anti-aircraft.
10:58That I know of.
11:01Now it was a bit hard to find information on some of these self-propelled anti-aircraft mounts.
11:06Mainly because my books don't particularly list many of them.
11:09And because there is not much English information on the internet or any other sources.
11:14So I've happened to be trawling through Italian sites.
11:17But the first large caliber self-propelled anti-aircraft gun we are looking at is the 102-35.
11:23The ones you are seeing in the picture are mounted on SPA 9000s.
11:28That's what the mount was called, I'm not entirely sure.
11:31Like I said, I'm not having to google translate a lot of this.
11:35But they were fortunately put on 634N Fiat trucks in World War 2.
11:40So we should have a more up-to-date vehicle that it's mounted to.
11:46Now it can only fire about 7 rounds a minute apparently.
11:50But it could penetrate up to 157mm of armor.
11:56With armor-piercing rounds from about 100m away.
12:00So I've put this about higher tier 2.
12:06Because I don't want the armor penetration to make it too unfair.
12:09But also the low fire rate will be useless in higher tiers with the faster aircraft.
12:15Higher tier 2 is really the limit aircraft speed where it would be able to handle itself probably.
12:22It has an effective ceiling of about 11,700m.
12:26So it should be able to reach most aircraft.
12:28Although they are firing a lot lower.
12:32But unfortunately they are going to be quite fast.
12:35Which could be a bit of a problem for it.
12:37But hopefully it will be able to deal with those problems.
12:39Now the next anti-aircraft gun is the 76-40.
12:43Which from what I understand was actually a naval weapon.
12:46But apparently some were eventually put on trucks.
12:50Fiat 634N's I believe again.
12:53Or maybe some other trucks as well.
12:55Now this has a better fire rate of about 12-15 shots a minute.
12:59Can reach up to about 6,000m.
13:03Not sure penetration values.
13:05But this should hopefully be a bit better for dealing with faster flying aircraft.
13:11Which is why I've put it low tier 3.
13:14Hopefully it will have ok armor penetration as well if you want to use it against enemy tanks.
13:19Where it should hopefully be able to do ok in that role.
13:22Though I'm not really sure.
13:24Like I say I'm not sure on the penetration values.
13:26But hopefully it will do ok.
13:28Now the next gun the 90-53.
13:31Which we've actually already looked at.
13:33This was the gun that was mounted on the Semivente tank destroyer.
13:37So we already know the penetration is 206mm at 100m.
13:42Can also reach up to about 12,000m.
13:47What's the word? Effective ceiling.
13:50Fire rate I think is about 19 rounds a minute.
13:56So fast firing we know it will do ok in the anti-tank role.
14:00Should hopefully do well in an anti-aircraft role as well.
14:04Not sure on information on the trucks unfortunately.
14:07I think it's on a Lancia 3RO heavy truck.
14:12I don't know any information on that unfortunately.
14:15But I doubt it's going to be that fast or well armoured.
14:18Especially with the huge gun on the back.
14:20But I think it would be a good addition for the self-propelled anti-aircraft line.
14:23Now I'll probably leave the video about here.
14:26In the next episode we'll look at the self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
14:31And the premium tanks.
14:33But in this episode hopefully you've got a good outline of the gun tanks.
14:38And tankettes, armoured cars, light tanks that could be in the Italian tech tree.
14:43These aren't necessarily Italy's strongest sides.
14:47The armoured cars are actually quite powerful.
14:49In some cases more powerful than some of the tanks.
14:52Light tanks are reasonably ok.
14:55Medium tanks can suffer a little bit.
14:58But I think if they're tiered appropriately they could do quite well.
15:02I think Italy definitely does deserve some form of tank tech tree.
15:09And I hope it will be introduced sometime in the future.
15:12And hopefully this raises awareness about the Italian tech trees.
