00:00A gunshot was heard and the barangay chairman asked a resident in Batangas City to leave.
00:08If you don't want to leave, leave!
00:14Leave!
00:16Leave!
00:18I will kill all of you!
00:20In the recorded video, the following gunshot was heard from the barangay captain, Joven Camacho, while walking on the street.
00:30He tried to stop several residents and according to the police, a resident went to Camacho.
00:35That's where he fired the gun.
00:38The victim was aiming the gun at his face and fired the gun next to his foot.
00:45Camacho was confronted by the police.
00:47The victim and the captain's family did not give their consent.
00:53The Development Budget Coordination Committee in the Senate issued a briefing that if you are food poor,
00:58your daily budget for food is P64.00 less.
01:02That's P20.00 per meal.
01:05But some senators asked, shouldn't this budget be changed?
01:09Especially since the price of food is getting more and more expensive.
01:12Here's Ma'am Gonzales.
01:17Senators are reviewing the basis of the National Economic and Development Authority, or NEDA, on poverty.
01:24In the beginning of the briefing of the Development Budget Coordination Committee in the Senate,
01:29it was issued that if you are food poor, your daily budget for food is P64.00 less.
01:35But that's three meals a day, right?
01:38So it's like P20.00 per meal.
01:45Do you think that number is sufficient, P20.00?
01:51The basket has not been changed for some time, Your Honor.
01:58Although the value of that basket has been adjusted for inflation.
02:04Maybe we should revisit that because preferences could have changed already.
02:08The relative prices have changed.
02:11Because we saw that the price of rice has been...
02:14Inflation there has been over 20% for the last couple of months.
02:18So obviously, that's where the P20.00 has been spent.
02:23In the poverty threshold, the basket is P91.00 per person per day to say that you are poor,
02:29or less than P3,000.00 per month.
02:32When you compute poverty thresholds using an old number,
02:37which is obviously not workable anymore, P20.00 per meal,
02:43your poverty forecast is not true.
02:49Secretary Arsenio Balisacan explained that they are not changing the threshold
02:54to properly track if the government's programs are effective for the poor.
02:59I think it's due for a revisit of this poverty threshold
03:03because it's been a while, more than a decade since it was set.
03:08The Central Bank of the Philippines is hoping that the country's inflation rate will drop by 2% to 4%.
03:15They say that lowering the price of rice is a big help.
03:18Price prices affect inflationary expectations
03:22and these expectations lead to second round effects.
03:26EO62 to reduce the tariff on rice will be so helpful in our efforts to tame inflation.
03:35Finance Secretary Ralph Recto said that the unemployment rate is the lowest
03:40and more Filipinos are facing poverty in 2024.
03:45Our unemployment rate is at a historic low.
03:50We have 50.3 million Filipinos employed today
03:55and 63.8% of them are engaged in formal and stable jobs.
04:01With favorable conditions, we are on course to becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2025.
04:11For GMA Integrated News, I'm Mav Gonzales, your witness.
04:17Department of Education Secretary Sunny Angara did not know that the government had a mishandling.
04:24Vice President Sara Duterte mentioned this issue last week
04:29as one of the reasons for her dismissal from the Cabinet of President Marcos.
04:33She tried to correct Vice President Duterte's mistake
04:37but he did not receive any support and did not see any changes.
04:41According to Angara, Commission on Audit or CUA,
04:44it is believed that there was a mishandling because it was seen in their reports.
04:49But in the eyes of the government, there is no lack of administration, especially in education.
04:56We will see in the CUA reports. It's the CUA who really knows if there was mishandling.
05:03Personally accompanied by Vice President Marcos,
05:07are the Filipino athletes on their way to the palace.
05:10The Filipino Olympians each received an award and cash gift.
05:14Witness, Van Myrina.
05:19The Team Philippines Jacket was personally worn by Vice President Marcos,
05:24the Filipino Olympian in Malacanang.
05:26He was accompanied by First Lady Liz Araneta Marcos,
05:29who was also wearing the Team Philippines Jacket,
05:31and the children, Simon and Vinny.
05:33A band of fans joined them while they were waiting for the stars tonight.
05:37A red carpet welcome was held in this hall,
05:40where the palace welcomes its distinguished guests.
05:43And before they take off their socks,
05:45the athletes arrived at the palace.
05:46Last, of course, were the Olympic medalists,
05:49Nesty Petencia and Ira Villegas, who won a bronze medal.
05:52And last, the double gold medalist, Carlos Yuno.
05:58Next, they entered the ceremonial hall.
06:01For dinner, they had salmon belly, grilled in a pan.
06:05Grilled US Angus beef with mechado sauce and chocolate cake.
06:09But they did not have dinner first,
06:11but the awarding ceremony was held first.
06:12Each athlete was given a presidential citation,
06:15and each of them, with or without a medal,
06:18received the same prize.
06:20All of our athletes, let's give them,
06:22as long as they won the Olympics,
06:24let's give them a million.
06:26The bronze medalists,
06:28Villegas and Petencia,
06:30received four million pesos.
06:32Yuno, on the other hand, received 22 million pesos.
06:35It's no longer a joke to qualify for the Olympics,
06:38and to just enter, is already a success.
06:39And of course, there is also for the coaching staff.
06:42The coaching staff,
06:44we will also give half a million.
06:46But more than the prizes,
06:48which a president gave more support to the athletes
06:51for the upcoming competitions,
06:53Yuno, Villegas and Petencia,
06:55who are receiving medals,
06:57will receive more.
06:59What I want to ask them is,
07:01what else can we do
07:03to increase your medals?
07:05That's what I want to talk to you.
07:06Not only the athletes,
07:08but also the coaches,
07:10the trainers,
07:12what else do you lack?
07:14Where did you have a hard time
07:16when you were training?
07:18That was the hardest part before we can help.
