The fire at St Peter's ripped through the church but it brought Wearsiders together.

00:00It all started with a church fire, but it led to a display of Sunderland community spirit at its best.
00:08St Peter's Church in Monk Wearmouth was ablaze 40 years ago.
00:14Flames and smoke poured from the building and a huge hole appeared in the roof.
00:20But it was the brave 999 crews who stopped it from being even more disastrous.
00:26Afterwards the people of Wearside made a giant card to say thank you to the firefighters
00:33and a fundraising campaign was launched to help the church
00:37with 72 year old Doris Watson putting together an exhibition of paintings
