00:00I look back at my life and all I see are the messes I made and I ain't got time to fix
00:15it.
00:16The Boys Season 4.
00:17The Boys Season 4.
00:18If you were to give me your general views on it, what would you say?
00:20I rate them with probably about 6.5 out of 10 because all their seasons are strong.
00:26This one I felt like, apart from the start and the end, the rest is just filler.
00:29It actually just doesn't live up to the expectations you'd expect.
00:35I think it's starting to insist on itself.
00:38Every season now, Homelander goes a bit crazy.
00:41You can't keep doing it.
00:43It's the same kind of stick every season.
00:47Season 4 just kind of drags out even more.
00:49This season is just, in between 3 and the final season, the whole arcs that they have
00:59to experience, the franchise arcs, it just kind of leads nowhere.
01:02It doesn't really add anything to the show.
01:04I thought last season that was the final form of Homelander.
01:07This season they have nearly the same where he goes back to the lab where he was made.
01:11We have that 90% shock value again, what the show runs on.
01:16But it's like, when is his character going to be done?
01:20I think this season now, going into the next, he's killed Newman.
01:24He's no competition.
01:26If they keep doing this again, the show is going to go a steep downhill because the only
01:31interesting parts of the show are Homelander and Butcher.
01:34You take one of them out, the show is not the same as it was.
01:40The Butcher reveal, it came as expected.
01:42It's not really something that was a big shock on him, he's been speaking to himself this
01:47whole time.
01:48But at the same time, I still think it was done pretty well.
01:52I rewatched the first episode, you can already see it.
01:56There are times where he's talking to himself without the hallucination being shown.
02:01And it's just, is he talking to himself, that's what you think on the first watch.
02:04But it's actually fairly well done.
02:07It being his wife and his ex-co-operative, that he failed they say, but even he forgets
02:16that he saved him.
02:17Because in the dialogue you hear, oh I saved you, but no, he really didn't.
02:21He let this man die.
02:22But it's not a hallucination, it's like evil good type of thing, where his wife is like
02:26the angel on his shoulder and the devil, it's kind of interesting.
02:30Again as you said, the whole way through this season they're kind of like having that Butcher
02:35dying, but it seems like they're just going to drag it out again.
02:38He seems even stronger this season, again.
02:40They're just going to bring him into season 5, a stronger character.
02:44Like the reveal of a Baldi's end, it's like, right, so he's just invincible, he doesn't
02:51need the drugs anymore, he's just a superhero.
02:54You said earlier, episodes are just forgettable.
02:58As you said, there's like three episodes in the season.
03:01The first, the sheep.
03:03It's like the one, the whole gang stay together in the sheep one.
03:07You have a Gus Shrank actor, what do you call him again?
03:11Oh I can't remember.
03:13Just call him Gus Shrank.
03:15Gus Shrank from the boys.
03:18His character makes an appearance again.
03:20It's nice to see him again, he's back.
03:22But that episode's only really strong because of the action and the fact that everyone can
03:26play off each other.
03:28But the whole scene, the show's adamant on being like, oh no, we have strong single characters.
03:33You remove Huey from Starlight, you remove Kimiko from Frenchie, the show just goes downhill
03:38so fast.
03:39It's like these characters aren't that interesting on their own.
03:42I find they really dog Starlight in the show.
03:44She doesn't really do anything for so long.
03:46It's like they're making fun of her.
03:49When she starts to lose her powers, it's not even a focus point, but it's hinted at.
03:56It's just a typical superhero trope as well.
04:00Spider-Man 2 even does it.
04:02It doesn't really add anything to the show.
04:04She still has strength.
04:06It's not done particularly well in the show.
04:08It's just like, oh, she can when she needs to, but she doesn't anymore.
04:17With the time I've got left, I can't do it alone.
04:25I can't do it without you.
04:28The actor who plays the Deep does such a fantastic job as well.
04:31Him and the Homelander and the Karl Urban are probably the standout performers in the show.
04:36Literally, man.
04:37Anthony Starr's so good as Homelander, but the Deep pulled it out of the bag decisions
04:41by being a stupid, humble character.
04:45It's fantastic, really.
04:48You know what the trivia is.
04:50He was on set sleeping.
04:53A couple of times, he's sleeping in some of the shots in the show.
04:57It's like, man, that's so funny.
05:00I don't think I've seen his show in a long time.
05:03He has that internet kind of culture.
05:05There's always a lot of boys' posts, either the Deep or Homelander.
05:09They're used very often.
05:12I don't think I know a show that has that kind of power behind it.
05:16I feel like because they're not using that many outdated references,
05:20and when they are, it's kind of self-depreciating.
05:24They're not really taking it too seriously.
05:27You watch the Mooji movie, and it's just awful schlock.
05:32They're actually trying hard to not be hip, but the writers are these people.
05:37They're not trying hard enough.
05:41At the start of mine, there's a big outcry because of the political agenda in the show.
05:48I mean, the show's always kind of had that.
05:50And while I don't think the politics is particularly offensive,
05:54I think it can be a wee bit ham-fisted.
05:56I think in this season, there's actually, I felt kind of in the least,
06:00apart from French's arc, was people made political.
06:03The whole show, like, what, the Homelanders versus the Starlighters?
06:08Snoozefest.
06:09It was actually, when it was never actually fully explained.
06:12It kind of gets dropped as well.
06:13Aye, it gets dropped so quick.
06:16And it's such like, it just gets brushed to the side.
06:19The way the butcher was just like, thank God.
06:22You know what I mean?
06:23It's so boring.
06:25Overall, it's kind of a crap season, isn't it?
06:29Overall, it's worth it just for the action scenes, though.
06:32I still recommend people watch the show and still, I wouldn't say skip season,
06:36but every show has their dud.
06:39How do you think they'll bring it back in season five?
06:42I can't say that they won't.
06:43I mean, they spent the whole season balling season five up.
06:46I'll go again on what we were talking about Homelander.
06:48This season was a wee bit different.
06:50They didn't show he's actually ready to address his weaknesses
06:54instead of feeling insecure about it.
06:56He goes to find the smartest superhero whatever, Sister Sage,
07:02because he realises that everyone's scared of him.
07:05He's like, yes, man.
07:06So, completely different side to Homelander.
07:09And after he's detached himself completely from his past,
07:13again, next season, if they try this arc again, it's not going to work.
07:18They need to focus on keeping him high power level.
07:23It has to be the finale of the series.
07:25It scores stars.
07:26We've been saying that this whole time.
07:28Has they come to it?
07:30I think they've already kind of shown the previews for five posters
07:36of Homelander going up in the world.
07:39So, I don't know what that can be.
07:41It feels so localised as well.
07:42I feel like in earlier seasons you saw more of them.
07:44I mean, the arc about them only getting out of the military service
07:47and the compound feed terrorists.
07:50They were more grounded back then.
07:52It's all gone at the moment.
07:54Half of it's just like cheap political satire.
07:58The rest of it's like a good show, but the percentages are going one way
08:03and it's not looking good, but I hope they come back.
08:08This country is corrupt beyond repair.
08:12So, we've got to save it.
08:16It's not going to be easy.
08:17We're going to have to do some terrible things.
08:19For the greater good.
08:20You'll no longer be beloved celebrities.
08:25You will be wrathful gods.
08:28.
