  • 2 ay önce
In this episode of mReview, we’ll look at something more peculiar in the electric automotive scene, a pure electric van from Chinese manufacturer Build Your Dreams (BYD) - the T3.

With the unprecedented rise in the electrical vehicles and to support our government’s green initiative, we take a glimpse of the future with the T3. Will electric vehicles live up to its hype? Will Jackie find it difficult to adjust? Watch this video to find out!

00:00Hello and welcome
00:02After a three year hiatus, I'm finally back
00:05And right now we're gonna kickstart this all new review channel
00:08Very proudly put together by none other than Motorist
00:11Welcome to M Reviews
00:25The producers felt that the best way to start this series
00:28Is with a review of a van
00:33This is what I get for waiting three years to do a review
00:37Okay let's just get this done with
00:41You probably would recognize this brand from their extremely large grab fleet
00:45That's not necessarily a good thing
00:48B.Y.D
00:50It's called the T3
00:51And a quick search online will reveal some of the other vehicles they have
00:55The E6, T3, K9, C8, C6
01:00Sounds like I'm reading someone's O-Level results
01:03But not mine ah
01:04Lim Peh or A1
01:05If you're planning to purchase a fully electric minivan
01:08I'm guessing you probably work for a huge company
01:11Or maybe you're a business owner of a smaller SME
01:14But if you're planning to get it for your personal use
01:17Then I would guess you're probably the kind that stocks up on
01:21McDonald's chilli sauce packets you know
01:23The one that wears socks with sandals
01:26Okay let's take a look at the engine bay or battery bay
01:31It's just a chunk of metal with wires sticking out of it
01:34Now apparently the motor is below and it's a front wheel drive
01:38A full charge will last you about 300 klicks or 250 if you're fully loaded
01:42And it'll only cost you anywhere between $5 and $20
01:46Now if you compare this to a regular diesel vehicle
01:49As a business owner you end up saving about $6,000 a year
01:54This also happens to be one of the rare battery electric vehicles
01:57That comes with both the AC and DC charging points
02:01DC can give you a full charge in like one to two hours
02:04Whereas an AC will take much longer
02:06But the DC charging isn't good for the battery
02:08So it's like a backup in case you suddenly run out of juice
02:11You can go to the nearest charging station
02:13And refill it to almost full in about an hour with the DC charge
02:19Confused? Me too
02:21Actually I think the whole charging and the charging station and all that is fine
02:26But if there's one thing that I must say
02:28I think all charging stations should be sheltered
02:32Now if you own a huge company
02:34And if you have a place to install one of these charging stations
02:38Then you're all good
02:39But if you're that socks and sandals guy
02:40Then you're pretty much screwed
02:42If you don't have a charging station a decent walking distance away from your home
02:46Then you're going to have to rely on constant DC charges
02:50Which is going to hurt your battery
02:51So it kind of plays itself out
02:58Now if you are blindfolded in the back
03:01You will never be able to tell I just switched this on
03:05Dead quiet
03:06There is nothing even remotely interesting about the inside of this van
03:11Apart from maybe this screen
03:13So I'm just going to go straight to the drive
03:16It stands for Build Your Dreams
03:18And I must admit it sounds like something my son came up with
03:22It shares the same platform as the very popular NV200 from Nissan
03:27Now there's one very important thing that you must know about all battery-powered vehicles
03:31And that is unlike your regular diesel or petrol vehicle
03:34Where you need to build up the revs to get your torque
03:37With a battery-powered vehicle you get instant torque
03:40Now I actually have a two-page write-up on what exactly instant torque is all about
03:45But I think I found the best way to explain this to you
03:51A nice family MPV plus it comes with a 2.4 litre engine
04:03Instant torque
04:07And it did it without emitting a single gram of carbon dioxide
04:11Or even a single decibel of sound
04:13In fact I think the loudest thing during that sprint were the aircon blowers
04:21Despite its sad looks and stolen BMW gear lever
04:26The T3 only has one motive in mind
04:29And that's to put more money in the pockets of business owners
04:33And when you drive the T3 you can actually feel the weight from below
04:37You know like as if there are bricks hanging from the bottom of the van
04:41But the thing is because the batteries are all below the vehicle
04:44The handling and the road feel of this T3 is just amazing
04:49I've driven the NV200 before, I've driven the 350, I've driven the Hayes
04:54I've even driven the Hayes High Roof
04:56But this one it really takes the cake
04:59And bear in mind there are no gears
05:01It's an automatic transmission but it's just one gear okay
05:04So from takeoff to top speed which according to the brochure is just 100, boring
05:10It's very very smooth, no jerks, no lags just
05:16Let me demonstrate how easy it is for you to change directions with a vehicle like this
05:31You can try this on any other vehicle but it's not going to be easy
05:35I don't know if I'm spoiling the gearbox but look at this
05:40It feels like a BMD, it feels like a go-kart
05:51The BYD T3, is it a buy, a don't buy or an I don't know
05:55Wait am I actually still allowed to?
05:57Can ah? Okay can
05:59Simple, if you're from an MNC it's a buy
06:02If you're from an SME it's an I don't know
06:05And if you're the guy with the chilli sauce packets it's a don't buy
06:09This is Jacky signing off, hopefully next time they give me a car to review
