00:00Welcome back to Mbox, Frustrated User Guide.
00:06You're watching an episode titled, Will It Stream?
00:10Now it's Monday, August 5th, 2024.
00:15This is an old MXQ with Android 4.4.2, the same MXQ that I've had in many of my Will
00:24It Stream type videos, but this time we're going to call it, Will It Stream?
00:29And the reason for that, have you ever watched any of these Will It Run videos?
00:45Search criteria, Will It Run?
00:49Driving a 1950 Pontiac for the first time in 40 years.
00:52So here's a car that's been stopped for 40 years.
00:55This guy is going to get it running in a 25 minute video.
00:58How about this one?
00:59Parked for 40 plus years, Jeep.
01:02This guy is going to get it running in a 55 minute video, and over and over and over.
01:10Some of my favorite channels here.
01:12Will It Run?
01:1320 plus years, no nonsense, no how, unbelievable channel.
01:18This Buick, 41 Buick, sitting for 38 years, but let's 49 plus 24, what is that?
01:2743 years old?
01:30He's going to get this car running by the end of this video, and over and over and over.
01:35How do they do it?
01:37Well if you watch enough of these videos, there's three things they check for.
01:43The engine has to have compression, has to have spark, has to have fuel.
01:51They all approach it the same way.
01:53We need compression, we need spark, we need fuel.
01:58If it's got all three of those things, it doesn't matter how many decades that engine
02:03has sat, it's going to start and run, and you'll see it over and over and over and over.
02:11So we're going to use that same technique, the same Will It Run technique, to answer
02:17the question, will these old TV boxes stream?
02:22And unlike those cars that are 40 and 50 years old, this TV box, it's a 2016, so it's
02:29only 8 years old.
02:31These TV boxes aren't that old, of course they're going to stream.
02:35So let's see, they need compression, spark, and fuel.
02:39What do we need?
02:40First thing, we need an accurate clock.
02:45First thing, we can see here, 327, that is the correct time.
02:50If your box has a clock that can't keep time, fix it with ClockSync.
02:55I have a whole episode on that.
02:59ClockSync will fix your time problem, so please watch that episode.
03:04But OK, let's just check it.
03:05I'll click on ClockSync.
03:08Here's the atomic time.
03:09It goes out to Boulder, Colorado, United States, that's where we've got it set.
03:14According to Boulder, it's 328 pm.
03:17Same exact system time here, Monday, August 5th, 2024.
03:21We're off by one one-thousandth of a second.
03:25That's unbelievable.
03:26Now we're exactly synced.
03:27Look at that.
03:30Now the only time this defective clock stops keeping time with ClockSync is if there's
03:36been a power failure.
03:38In that event, we have to go back in, and then you can just click on this right here.
03:44Just clicking on that will update it to the atomic clock.
03:48So OK, there's a little tip.
03:49That's our first thing.
03:51We got spark.
03:52We got a clock.
03:54All right, now what about compression?
03:58Well, in this case, we need bandwidth.
04:01I'm going to check our bandwidth here today with SpeedTester.
04:06All right, let's go.
04:14This is connected by Wi-Fi.
04:19Ping is 10 milliseconds.
04:20That's up here.
04:23We got a download of 35 megabits per second.
04:27More than enough.
04:2840 megabits per second on the Wi-Fi.
04:33We're not going to be using the upload, but it'll test our upload as well.
04:37Now, you need at least 10 megabits per second to stream anything, and that's just barely
04:46streaming.
04:47You have to be connected to a fast server.
04:49The higher this number, the better it's going to be.
04:53In my experience, anything above 20, you should do really well.
04:57This is 40, so I don't expect any problems.
05:00So we have an accurate clock.
05:06We've got bandwidth.
05:07Now, what's the third thing?
05:10Remember, on those cars, they're looking for compression, spark, fuel.
05:15What's the third thing?
05:17Well, that's storage space.
05:24So I've clicked on Settings, Apps.
05:30Here's our internal storage.
05:35We've used 1.4 gigabytes with our installed apps, which can do pretty much everything
05:42we need it to do.
05:44And we have 3.8 gigabytes free.
05:48Why do we need so much free space?
05:52Now, on these old boxes with only 6 gig embedded multimedia cards, this left section has to
05:58be under 2 gigs.
06:02And this right section has to be over 3 gigs.
06:05And the higher this number, the better you're going to do.
06:08The lower this number, the better you're going to do.
06:11We need this space to work.
06:14Apps need space to work.
06:16You can't fill everything up and expect the box to work.
06:21Now, on a box that has 32 gigs or 64 gig internal embedded multimedia card, it's not a problem.
06:29But on this box, these old boxes that had very small storage devices built in, this
06:34is a real concern.
06:37How do you free up all this internal storage?
06:40You have to delete the apps that don't work.
06:44We have a whole episode on that.
06:47But these are the three things.
06:49I'm not going to repeat that episode here.
06:51These are the three things.
06:52You need storage.
06:55Let's go back home.
06:58You need a working clock.
07:01You need bandwidth.
07:02Well, we have those three things.
07:06So, that means this box has got to stream.
07:10And the apps that we're going to use on these old boxes, well, we have two YouTube apps.
07:16This one has SkyTube Legacy Extra.
07:19We also have SmartTube.
07:21Now, even though at first glance you would think that these two are similar apps, each
07:26has unique features.
07:28So, let's go back to SmartTube because we've already got that open.
07:32And look at all the stuff that we've got open here.
07:34Remember when this box could not chew gum and walk at the same time?
07:39Now you can do all these things at the same time.
07:42So, let's go back to SmartTube.
07:47We're still in the will it run category.
07:49Note that it only took, what, four or five seconds for this page to load.
07:55So, okay.
07:58Let's say you, for some reason, there's a technique here and you want to learn this
08:04better and use it somewhere where you don't have internet.
08:07How could you download that and take it out to your car or the junk car in your backyard
08:12that you want to try to get running?
08:16You see this right here?
08:18If I click that, this video will download in a matter of seconds.
08:24And it will play perfectly.
08:31SmartTube doesn't have this feature.
08:35There is another thing.
08:39Even though I'm not signed in to Google or YouTube or any other service, SkyTube lets
08:46me subscribe to a channel and list it here in the menu.
08:56So, I never have to search for it again because I can just choose it from this menu.
09:01Even though I am not signed in to anything.
09:05Now, how would you do that?
09:07Well, supposing I wanted to sign in to this channel.
09:11This guy has a tremendous amount of subscribers.
09:15You could click here.
09:23Channel.
09:24I'm off the channel.
09:26Hit subscribe.
09:28And that guy's channel will appear in our menu here on the left.
09:33These are great features.
09:35So, this is SkyTube Extra.
09:42Now, let's check the version.
09:47Remember, it's August 4th, 2024.
09:54This is version 2.990.
09:58And this is called SkyTube Extra.
10:01There's also SkyTube Legacy.
10:03There's at least six different versions of SkyTube.
10:07So, this one is 2.990.
10:10Now, if Google or YouTube makes a change that stops third-party YouTube apps from working,
10:20it will take a day or so and both SkyTube and SmartTube always come up with updates
10:25that correct it.
10:27So, if you have one that's not working, it just means YouTube made a change to try to
10:31knock them out and the developers just overcame that change and came up with a new version.
10:37As of today, though, you want 2.990.
10:41Probably going to be a much newer one by the time you're watching this.
10:46Now, another thing about SkyTube.
10:49Since I mentioned it last time, a few people said they couldn't get audio.
10:53So, if that's the case, you go to Preferences.
10:58You go to Video Player.
10:59It's not obvious because you have an audio problem, but the fix is under Video Player.
11:05Then you scroll down to the bottom here.
11:07See where it says Try Newer Video Formats?
11:11If that's checked, sound and video may suffer on old Android versions without support for
11:19these newer video formats.
11:20So, if you're not getting any sound, uncheck this.
11:24It only takes a second and the sound will play perfectly.
11:29So, this is SkyTube Extra, one of my absolute favorite apps.
11:34I have it on all my boxes from the oldest to the newest.
11:37Works great.
11:38It's just a wonderful, wonderful app.
11:40Developers deserve all the credit in the world.
11:44Alright, now what about SmartTube?
11:48Why do we have two YouTube apps?
11:51Well, they each have features.
11:54And one of the features that I really love about SmartTube...
11:593.39 PM.
12:03Let's see how long this takes to load.
12:05What was that?
12:06Five, six seconds?
12:08Okay, one of the features that I really love about SmartTube...
12:12First, I'll search for my own channel so that we don't...
12:23Don't get any copyright strikes.
12:29Alright, trying to find...
12:42Here's a TV repair video.
12:46The same exact TV we're looking at right now.
12:49Uses this TV in at least two or three videos.
12:52So, I'll click on that.
12:59Okay, I'm just going to pause it here.
13:04Now, that only took three or four seconds to load.
13:09The feature that this has that SkyTube does not have...
13:15Would be closed captions.
13:17So, when I play this video...
13:19There will be closed captions because I've already turned it on.
13:23And depending upon what I did last time...
13:26Let's see what language they're in.
13:28Because this is the real fantastic feature.
13:31Now, I've turned the volume down so that I can still talk over it.
13:39Now, see?
13:41Even though this video is in English...
13:45We've got Spanish subtitles.
13:48So, if you don't speak English...
13:52And you have trouble following my videos...
13:55Especially with my Massachusetts accent...
13:59You can set up subtitles in any language.
14:04Virtually any language.
14:05Now, let's stop it again.
14:09You click on Subtitles.
14:17I guess you have to click and hold.
14:21Now, Subtitles.
14:23Click here.
14:25Oops, that's not right.
14:28Click on Auto-Generated.
14:31And then choose your language.
14:34So, no hablo ingles? No problema.
14:37Just click on Spanish.
14:40Now, I speak broken Spanish.
14:43Broken Portuguese. Broken Russian.
14:45I could never narrate these videos in any of those languages.
14:49Even though I might be able to order food in a restaurant and get around...
14:54There's no way I could do it.
14:56But regardless, where you are in the world...
14:59Look!
15:01They've got virtually every language everywhere.
15:04And this is all you have to do.
15:06Just click on your language.
15:09And select it.
15:11Now, follow English? Follow Portuguese?
15:14OK, let's go to Portuguese.
15:18My Portuguese is better than my Spanish, but I still could not narrate this in Portuguese and do any kind of reasonable job.
15:31So, how about Russian?
15:33Говорить по-русски?
15:34Я изучал русский язык в школе.
15:37But that was 60 years ago.
15:40Let's talk about rusty Russian.
15:43Let's see how this is going to work.
15:49Amazing.
15:51So, great, great feature.
15:55Here in SmartTube.
15:58Can't do this in SkyTube.
16:01So, there we go.
16:07Works perfectly here.
16:09This is Android 4.4.2.
16:118-year-old MXQ.
16:13This is Android 4.4.2.
16:158-year-old MXQ.
16:17Now, I want to show you something else.
16:23Now, one of the biggest complaints that we get is,
16:27yeah, but there's not enough movies, not enough TV shows.
16:31Well, did you ever think of typing in movies into YouTube?
16:44How about Movies 2024, Full Movies, 2023 Full Movie,
16:50Full-Length Movies English, this language, the other language, whatever language.
16:54Let's just see what we get.
16:56Search results for movies.
17:03YouTube movies, 182 million subscribers.
17:07Recently uploaded, new action movie, 2024.
17:11Oh, is that the guy from The Beekeeper?
17:15I don't know.
17:16I don't know how many thousands, hundreds of thousands of movies
17:19there may be here in every language, everywhere.
17:25You can search by the movie that you're actually looking for, too.
17:29And they all play perfectly.
17:33I lost that just then.
17:35Let's try here on SkyTube.
17:47Movies.
17:55Full-Length Movies.
17:57Hardo suggested. Try that.
18:01Yeah, it is that guy from Beekeeper.
18:12I don't know how many movies there are on YouTube.
18:22Jeez, that looks like an old Stallone.
18:25Does he have a new Rambo movie?
18:28There's got to be hundreds, hundreds of thousands.
18:32I just don't know.
18:36No shortage of movies, both here on SkyTube or SmartTube.
18:58How about English movies?
19:14You can also search...
19:18...for TV shows.
19:49Search results for TV shows, full episodes.
19:54Oh, we didn't specify just English.
20:01Again, I would tend to think you're going to find whatever it is.
20:06Here's some sort of MasterChef type thing.
20:09This one's from Kitchen Nightmares.
20:14We can't go through all the millions of them.
20:17That would be here.
20:19But whatever you want, you're going to find it.
20:22Both on SkyTube and on SmartTube.
20:26Now, in addition, we have another streaming app...
20:31...that works great on Android 4.4.2.
20:38I don't have it on the desktop.
20:40Let me just put it on the desktop.
20:43And that would be...
20:49...Film On Live TV.
20:51I'll put it right here.
21:01This is version 2.4.3, copyright 2024.
21:06So we're not looking at some really old version.
21:10Notice it's going to start playing the default channel almost immediately.
21:15So I'm going to stop that.
21:21Now, on the left-hand side, you have this menu...
21:25...which looks like it might be short.
21:27There's a combination of paid and free channels.
21:32I'm going to go down to...
21:34We've got news channels.
21:41If it's a paid channel, see here where it says paid?
21:44Paid.
21:45If it's free, it's marked free.
21:47So you don't have to subscribe to watch any of these free channels.
21:56Now, each of these categories...
21:59There's a lot more here than you might think.
22:03So you collapse that, and now you go on to these other categories.
22:08Vintage USA TV.
22:10Here's more movies.
22:12Here's documentary.
22:13And it just goes and goes and goes and goes.
22:18Oh, here's a good one.
22:22Yeah.
22:23Tons of stuff to be watched here.
22:26And it all plays almost immediately.
22:30No, no, no, no.
22:32We don't want to play the BBC and get a copyright strike.
22:39So, lots of stuff here.
22:42It all plays perfectly and streams quickly.
22:45There's no buffering.
22:47You can click this icon, make it go to full screen.
22:50It'll play for hours, play perfectly.
22:52A great app.
22:54This is...
22:55Oh, yes.
22:56And you get either free standard definition or high-quality HQ definition...
23:01...depending upon how much power is in your box.
23:05On the older boxes, you might want to make sure that standard definition is checked.
23:09Still looks pretty good.
23:10So, yeah.
23:11Lots of content here.
23:15Got to be very careful on YouTube.
23:17They're so quick to issue strikes.
23:21So, this is a very good app.
23:23It's called Film On Live TV.
23:25That was version 2.4.3.
23:28But the big news this year.
23:31We have a browser.
23:33It's called the VIA browser.
23:394 America, 5 America.
23:41Took about 5 seconds to load.
23:43Now, remember, this is that old MXQ.
23:45That's pretty fast.
23:47Now, it's not perfect on Android 4.4.2.
23:51But it sure is better than no browser.
23:55So, we're going to look at a couple things here that people say they can't get.
24:00Some people say they don't have a Miracast client.
24:03Because it didn't come with their box.
24:05Well, here's two that work on Android 4.4.2 and all newer versions.
24:10So, you just click on that there.
24:13One of the nice things about having a browser that actually works on these old boxes...
24:19...is that if you didn't have this and you wanted it...
24:22...you could click right here, download.
24:25And you would have it in seconds.
24:27So, that's the Miracast player by PlayWFD.
24:31It's version 1.3.
24:33I've tested it. Works perfectly on Android 4.4.2.
24:37Works as well as the one that came with my box.
24:40So, if you don't have it, you can try this one.
24:42Alright, there's another one, too, that works.
24:45It's this one, Wi-Fi Sync.
24:50This is version 1.6.
24:52Again, you could download it right here.
24:54If you don't already have a working browser on your box...
24:57...you're going to have to download a working browser on a computer and bring it over here.
25:04And where would you get the VIA browser?
25:06Well, it's right here.
25:09V-I-A-Y-O-O.
25:11Sorry it went by so fast.
25:13Yeah, this old box is wicked fast.
25:16I remember one time it was so slow.
25:19But it's so fast right now, we've turned it into a hot rod box.
25:24We have an accurate clock.
25:27We've got bandwidth.
25:29We've got storage space.
25:31We've got apps that work.
25:33And if you wanted to download this, you could click download and you would have it immediately.
25:42So, let's see.
25:43Launcher.
25:44Some people say they don't have the phone launcher on their box.
25:48That would be the launcher that I use and I've featured in many other videos.
25:52Well, here's where you can get it.
25:58Actually, right now I'm not using the launcher that came on my box.
26:01I've been testing this one for months.
26:03It's called Launcher Plus.
26:05Version 1.2.7.
26:08We're at Uptown.
26:10This is Bjorn.
26:12I'm not going to mispronounce his last name.
26:14Works perfectly.
26:15Works even better than the phone launcher that came with my box.
26:19Works great.
26:21So, if you want a phone launcher, you can get and use that one.
26:24Oh, why did I put this here?
26:26What's this one?
26:28Oh, you can also get it from APKpure.
26:31This is the same launcher.
26:33Version 1.2.7.
26:36Are you noticing how fast these pages pop on the VIA browser?
26:43Just amazing because we had no browser before.
26:48Now, here's another thing.
26:51I'm not a gamer, but look at this site.
26:55APK.gold
26:58It's not APKgold.org.
27:01It's not APKgold.com.
27:03It's APK.gold.
27:05Prior to this, I was not familiar with the .gold extension.
27:10But, download free APK files for any Android versions.
27:16So, if you click search and you type in games for Android 4.4.2 or whatever you want,
27:23this will do a great job of bringing in that old stuff.
27:27Right now, we're just at the generic homepage.
27:31I'm sure that you're not going to get a Google Chrome for Android 4.4.2.
27:36You'd have to type that in first.
27:38But, what a great site to get apps that work on these old boxes.
27:46So, this is APK.gold.
27:58What's this one?
28:00It must be the same thing.
28:04Oh, here's where you can get FilmOn.
28:06We just looked at FilmOn.
28:08They have it at APK.gold.
28:10And, they have all these versions.
28:13We were using version 2.4.3.
28:17I'm not sure what the difference is.
28:19Some of these might be best for paid services.
28:22We're just using the free one, free live TV.
28:25So, that's 2.4.3.
28:27You can also download that from APK.gold.
28:31And, once you get the VIA browser on your box, you can do all this right on the box, which is amazing.
28:40Here's my channel. Can we pop that?
28:45You're best watching YouTube on either SkyTube or SmartTube+.
28:53But, see, you can also watch it here.
28:56Here's MXQ Upgrade Secrets, Frustrated User Guides.
29:00My channel, it's a little bit slower when you do it this way.
29:03But, this works too.
29:07See, Frustrated User Guide for MXQ TV Boxes with Android 4.4.2.
29:13All the episodes right here.
29:16But, again, much faster if you do it using SmartTube or SkyTube.
29:20But, it does work with VIA.
29:22So, what a great app to put on your box.
29:28So, that's the news for 2024.
29:32I want to point out that we did this.
29:35Look at all the stuff that we have running right now, all at the same time.
29:40We didn't have to close this all out.
29:42They all worked. You saw the speed.
29:46So, we're going to address one other issue that keeps coming up.
29:50People tell me they cannot hit their Netgear Media servers.
29:54Well, I have a router, a Netgear router, an old R6050.
29:58It's probably 2016 vintage, 2015 vintage.
30:05I'm going to hit it with FX.
30:08This is FX File Manager.
30:19Go to Network.
30:21I've already set up these servers.
30:26But, here's how you would do it on an old Netgear ReadyShare router.
30:33You'd click the plus button.
30:37You could either set up a file transfer protocol server or a Windows host that's server message block.
30:44What you need to know is the reason it usually doesn't work is those old Netgear routers were on server message block version 1.
30:53The latest version, I think, is version 3.
30:57It's going to default higher.
31:03So, you could put in your host name or computer address.
31:07If you're familiar with this, you know you do all this and it never works.
31:12Because, to make it work, you've got to go over here to Advanced.
31:24Oh, I think they fixed it in this version.
31:30On older versions, you would have to go here to Advanced.
31:35And, there will be a list here to say, Use SMB1.
31:41And, you click that and then it works.
31:53Here's my ReadyShare.
32:02It's just going to work because I've already done this before.
32:05But, that's your tip.
32:09If it's not working for you, even though you put in the IP address correctly, you put in the share name,
32:16whether you have a user or not, whether it's anonymous or you have to have a username and password.
32:23If it doesn't work, go on the Advanced tab.
32:28Turn on SMB1, which we'll show here.
32:32And, that's the answer.
32:37And, how does this play?
32:40Well, if I go to ReadyShare.
32:47If I click on...
32:52Nope, can't show this, it's going to strike.
32:57Okay, so that's pretty much it for August 5th, 2024.
33:05These two programs continue to work perfectly.
33:09And, then there's one other thing.
33:12Do you know what a homophone is?
33:17Homophone has to do with two words that sound exactly alike but are spelled differently.
33:28So, there is an app that I cannot mention here without getting censored and getting a strike.
33:36And, the name of that app is a homophone for Buffalo Bill's last name.
33:44So, I'm going to type in...
33:54Buffalo...
33:57Bill.
34:25So, here it is.
34:27Buffalo Bill's real name is William Frederick.
34:30There's his last name.
34:33And, the app I'm talking about is pronounced exactly the same as Buffalo Bill's last name.
34:43Now, that also works great on this box.
34:47And, there's a whole episode on Frustrated User Guide that shows you how to do that.
34:54Now, YouTube has said you have to be over 18 to watch that video because it's so inappropriate and offensive.
35:03They've censored me and put all kinds of restrictions on it.
35:11All I can say is, there's no offensive material.
35:14No dangerous material.
35:16None of the things that have been charged are in fact true.
35:22But, you can be the judge.
35:25You can tell me if you see any inappropriate content.
35:29All we're talking about is how to make Buffalo Bill work on this computer.
35:35Work on this whole TV box.
35:38And, it does work.
35:39It works as well as on any other TV box.
35:42And, you know that if you are familiar with Buffalo Bill and how it works, there isn't anything you can't watch.
35:53So, that's all I'm going to say.
35:56Watch that app.
35:57Just go to MXQ Frustrated User Guide.
36:00Watch the episode on Buffalo Bill.
36:05It works as well on this box as it works anywhere else.
36:08That's all I can say.
36:10So, between Buffalo Bill, between these two apps, that's also a censored episode.
36:16These two apps can play every cable TV channel in every language from all around the world.
36:27So, over 7,000 channels here.
36:32We reboot the computer so that it boots up to Buffalo Bill.
36:38I have an old TV box that's quite fast.
36:42Does everything I want it to do.
36:44Works on little TVs.
36:46Works on big TVs.
36:48Has a beautiful, beautiful picture and scanning ability.
36:53The sound is amazing.
36:55So, yeah.
36:57We've done what these guys did with their Will It Run car videos.
37:04We can make any of these old TV boxes stream.
37:08And, the secret again, you need an accurate clock.
37:13You need bandwidth.
37:15You need storage.
37:17Get rid of all the junk that doesn't work.
37:21Install SmartTube.
37:23Install SkyTube.
37:26Install the VIA browser.
37:30Film on live TV.
37:33If you don't have it already, Miracast, so that you can stream anything off your phone.
37:40We do have these utilities, ClockSync, because this box cannot keep time without it.
37:46Do have this to check my bandwidth.
37:48Remember, you can't stream if you've got less than 10 megabits per second bandwidth.
37:54Tell me what this box can't do.
37:59So, I hope this helps you.
38:01You have an old box and you're trying to get it streaming.
38:05Please visit Inbox Frustrated User Guide on YouTube.
38:11We have an episode on clock problems.
38:15An episode on streaming bandwidth problems.
38:19Lots of episodes to show you how to get your box working.
38:23There's no reason you can't get any of those old boxes working just as well as this one.
38:30As of August 5th, 2024.
38:32And, if you have a newer box, well, in some cases, the newer ones don't actually work as well as this old one.
38:40But, we'll leave it there.
38:42So, I hope you found this useful.
38:44Thanks for watching.
