01:26Matthew Hayden is a very strong player, physically imposing man. He walked down the pitch at the new
01:38ball and smacked it back over the bowler's head, both in Test match cricket and one-day cricket.
01:42If you over-pitched to him, he drove as powerfully and as straight as anybody going around and of
01:49course the great thing was he could drop short and pull the hook.
01:51Straight down the ground, what a way to get up to mark for Matthew Hayden.
01:55Now then, now then, that is big because this is a long straight boundary and Hayden's hit it flat.
02:09When you think of that dominant Australian period, you do almost by definition think of
02:18Warner McGrath and you certainly think of Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist. In 1999, you think of
02:23Steve Waugh. In 2003, you think of Andrew Symonds. I don't think people quite give the credit to
02:30Matthew Hayden that he deserves. Alongside Adam Gilchrist, he formed a fearsome opening partnership.

02:42chaos that Hayden and Gilchrist caused at times.

03:49Moving down the wicket to take him on.
03:51He was one of the first players to do that against Pace.
03:54That just stamped the authority of the Australian innings on the opposition team.
03:59Then you look back at his record.
04:01He's got probably the best record of any Australian batsman on Asian soil.
04:05His adaptability in every condition probably puts him a lot higher than where he's stated at the moment.
04:15He's a lot better batsman than what you remember.
04:19That's clever.
04:21Just using the pace.
04:23It was just the way that he scored the runs as well in that really aggressive, commanding sort of style.
04:29You almost feared for your life as a bowler at times as he came striding up the pitch
04:34and belting it back at you and glaring at you as well.
04:37He really showed that in the 2007 World Cup with the 300s and over 600 runs.
04:42Only the second batsman ever to score over 600 in a World Cup.
04:49I think this is an extraordinarily good innings for Matthew Hayden
04:53and further confirmation of his form.

04:58This is an amazing example of how a player can apply himself mentally
05:03to one or two problems he's had in preceding years
05:06and come back even better than he was.
05:09You suspect that the opposition are under pressure as he takes guard.
05:14They're remembering what he has done to you in the past and what he might do to you in the future
05:19and that's a great point from which to start an innings.

07:59that have outplayed everybody who has come before them.

08:18It's hard to see anybody else winning three World Cup titles.
08:21It's hard to see anybody else winning three World Cups in a row.
