00:00Between takes, you might find him skydiving or motorcycling.
00:03Please welcome Rodney Alcala.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:07Today, we're counting down our picks
00:08for the strangest and most disturbing occurrences that
00:10were captured live, which shocked or worried viewers
00:13at home.
00:13We'll be disregarding any creepypastas and fake occurrences
00:16like the Wyoming incident.
00:23Number 50, strange individual at congressional hearing.
00:25And what I'm about to tell you sounds
00:28like it's out of some fiction spy thriller.
00:32In February 2023, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley
00:35testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee
00:38about alleged abuse of federal authority.
00:40But for most viewers at home, Grassley's words
00:42were eclipsed by the eerie presence of a man sitting
00:44right behind him.
00:45Throughout the 15-minute statement,
00:46this bespectacled figure stared right
00:48at the camera with an unsettlingly blank expression.
00:51He hardly moved and, even more unnervingly, barely blinked,
00:54only occasionally closing one eye
00:56in a slow, deliberate manner.
00:57Many have speculated that he might be Grassley's aide,
01:00but even that has not been confirmed.
01:01This strange individual's chilling stare
01:03was enough to give anyone the creeps.
01:05The point being, there was no real purpose
01:07for another briefing, let alone a member level.
01:11Number 49, TV presenters spooked by poltergeist.
01:18In October 2016, popular Mexican clairvoyant Molly Vidente
01:22appeared on a TV program, Sale el Sol, to discuss the weather.
01:25But her presence seemed to stir something unsettling
01:28in the room.
01:29Just as Vidente began talking about the existence of angels,
01:31a piece of the set mysteriously broke away
01:34and crashed to the floor right behind her.
01:35This left another set piece spinning in place,
01:38a sight that sent chills through one
01:39of the startled presenters on the panel.
01:41After this clip went viral, Vidente took to social media
01:44to state that she had felt the presence
01:45of a powerful spirit in the room,
01:47which some believe may have been behind the eerie disturbance.
01:50These souls, who for whatever reason are not at rest,
01:56are also not aware that they have passed on.
02:00Number 48, ghost sighting during cemetery tour.
02:03And as you can see behind me here,
02:04we have a few gravestones,
02:06but what you can't see because it's dark out.
02:08When you wander through a cemetery,
02:09you might find more than what you bargained for.
02:11Just ask WNYT reporter Sam Hessler.
02:14In 2021, during Halloween season,
02:16Hessler and her camera crew visited Green Ridge Cemetery
02:19in Saratoga Springs, New York,
02:20to cover their spooky twilight tours.
02:22While she reported in front of the camera,
02:24it appears one of the cemetery's residents
02:26was keeping an eye on things.
02:27Far in the background, viewers pointed out
02:29what looked like a ghostly figure
02:30floating across the graveyard.
02:32This chilling sight was only noticed
02:33after the footage made it on air.
02:35Perhaps it's wise to steer clear of cemeteries
02:37if you want to avoid encountering restless spirits.
02:39Number 47, news anchor suffers stroke on air.
02:42The Tulsa Air and Space Museum is hosting a launch today.
02:49Sometimes the most unsettling moments
02:51have nothing to do with the supernatural.
02:53Case in point, this eerie clip from a 2022 news report.
02:56Oklahoma anchor Julie Chin was delivering a story
02:58on NASA's Artemis launch when suddenly,
03:00she began struggling to speak.
03:02Despite the teleprompter guiding her,
03:03Chin was unable to articulate the report.
03:06Instead, she presented a disturbing sight
03:07that left viewers at home deeply concerned.
03:09It turned out Chin was experiencing the onset
03:12of a stroke live on air.
03:13Her colleagues called 911 after recognizing the emergency,
03:16and she was rushed to the hospital.
03:17Thankfully, she recovered swiftly,
03:19but this incident is a stark reminder
03:21of how quickly things can go terrifyingly wrong.
03:24I'm sorry, something is going on with me this morning,
03:26and I apologize to everybody.
03:28Number 46, Japanese tsunami ghosts.
03:31When night falls and the light has vanished,
03:36there are ghosts wandering around this area.
03:39In March 2011, Japan was gripped
03:41by one of the most horrific natural disasters
03:43in human history.
03:44A powerful earthquake rocked the sea floor,
03:46triggering a tsunami that claimed nearly 20,000 lives
03:49and inflicted over $300 billion in damages.
03:52Amid the devastation, news cameras captured
03:55some strange images in the water.
03:56White ghostly figures appeared to leap from the waves,
03:59landing on nearby buildings
04:00or simply vanishing into thin air.
04:02These spectral sightings didn't end there.
04:04In the years following the disaster,
04:06many survivors reported seeing the restless spirits
04:08of the victims roaming the streets,
04:10and in some cases, hailing down cabs.
04:12Could these be actual ghosts
04:13or mere manifestations of grief?
04:15The answer remains unknown.
04:16And another 3,000 people whose bodies have not been found
04:20have continued to haunt some of the survivors.
04:22Number 45, twin sisters run into oncoming traffic.
04:2540-year-old identical twins from Sweden
04:28wandered out onto one of Britain's busiest motorways.
04:31In May 2008, passersby on the M6 motorway in England
04:34called highway police after spotting twin sisters,
04:37Ursula and Sabrina Eriksson,
04:38recklessly darting into traffic.
04:40A documentary crew for the BBC series Motorway Cops
04:43happened to be with the police
04:44and their cameras captured the bizarre events that followed.
04:47While talking with the officers,
04:48the sisters suddenly broke free,
04:50running into oncoming traffic
04:51and sustaining severe injuries.
04:52Even after regaining consciousness,
04:54Sabrina attacked an officer
04:55and attempted to run back onto the highway
04:58before being restrained.
04:59Just days later, Sabrina ended the life of an innocent man
05:02who offered her a place to stay out of pity.
05:04It's believed that both sisters
05:06suffered from a form of shared psychosis.
05:08What would possibly compel anyone to do this?
05:11Number 44, ABC Australia
05:13accidentally broadcasts disturbing ritual.
05:16State government announced the proposed legislation today.
05:19It's in part due to the stabbing of a police dog
05:21during an arrest in Brisbane last year.
05:25Hail Satan.
05:27Audiences who tuned into ABC News Australia in August 2021
05:30were in for a spine-chilling surprise.
05:32During a segment by anchor Ivani Young
05:35on proposed animal legislation,
05:36the feed abruptly cut to an unsettling scene.
05:39Three figures wearing black robes
05:40stood in a dimly lit red room,
05:42with one of them ominously uttering the words,
05:45The eerie snippet quickly spread across social media,
05:47sparking wild speculations of a calculated move by ABC.
05:51However, Young later clarified
05:53that it was an accidental glitch,
05:54showing footage from an earlier segment
05:56discussing a push for Satanism in Australian schools.
05:59Talk about an unexpected brush with the underworld.
06:01A small group of religious rebels
06:03plan to do the devil's work inside classrooms.
06:06The Noosa Temple of Satan
06:08wants its religion taught in schools.
06:10Number 43, Pope Francis vanishes.
06:12And then watch this right here,
06:15coming up right after this.
06:17You've heard of religious miracles
06:18like turning water into wine or parting the Red Sea,
06:21but have you ever imagined the Pope vanishing into thin air?
06:23One social media user claimed to witness just that
06:26during a live broadcast from the Vatican City.
06:28In the eerie footage, Pope Francis is seen
06:30addressing the crowd from his balcony,
06:32but as he turns to retreat inside,
06:33he simply disappears into nothingness.
06:35It's a spooky sight that left the individual
06:37who posted the video understandably alarmed.
06:39The clip ignited a flurry of conspiracy theories.
06:42Is the Pope a hologram?
06:43Was he being shielded from some unseen danger?
06:45Maybe, but the true explanation
06:46may be as simple as an editing glitch.
06:48And poof, he's gone.
06:54Did you see that?
06:55Number 42, live magic trick gone wrong.
06:57A magic trick didn't go quite as planned
07:00on live TV in Poland.
07:02Magic tricks are dazzling to behold,
07:04but they can sometimes be a nightmare for participants.
07:06Just ask Polish TV presenter Marzena Rogalska.
07:09In 2016, magician Marcin Poloniewicz
07:12joined Rogalska on her morning show,
07:13Question for Breakfast,
07:14and invited her to try the nail-in-a-bag trick.
07:17After smashing his own hand on an empty bag,
07:19Poloniewicz guided Rogalska's hand to another bag
07:21and slammed it down hard.
07:23To their horror, this bag held the hidden nail.
07:25You only need to hear Rogalska's cries of agony
07:27to know just how terrifying a moment it was for her.
07:29Fortunately, Rogalska was fine.
07:30Thankfully, she emerged with only superficial wounds
07:33and was able to forgive Poloniewicz for the incident.
07:39Number 41, TV reporter nearly struck by lightning.
07:42Being a TV journalist can sometimes be life-threatening.
07:47Reporters often find themselves in the midst of danger
07:49when covering harsh weather, natural disasters,
07:52and conflict situations.
07:53Matt Rodwald of Fox 10 in Arizona
07:55experienced such terror firsthand.
07:57While reporting on a monsoon storm in Phoenix,
07:59a lightning bolt struck the ground
08:01just across the street from him.
08:02A few feet closer, and it easily struck the man.
08:05Despite this hair-raising encounter,
08:07Rodwald returned to his post and finished the live report.
08:10When the clip surfaced online,
08:11viewers were genuinely terrified for Rodwald
08:13and voiced their anger at the network
08:15for sending him out during such a major storm.
08:17We've seen sheets of wind come through here,
08:19and probably about two minutes before we hit the air,
08:21a very strong lightning strike.
08:23Number 40, Rubzy's paranormal live stream.
08:26This eerie encounter looks like something
08:27straight out of a horror movie.
08:28YouTuber Rubzy was reportedly playing a horror game
08:31on his phone, and he was struck by lightning.
08:34YouTuber Rubzy was reportedly pet-sitting
08:36at a friend's house when his live stream audience
08:37noticed something strange.
08:39At first, it appeared that the door behind him
08:40was opening unaided.
08:41Sure, that could be attributed to a faulty hinge,
08:43but when it suddenly slammed shut all by itself,
08:46it became apparent that something spooky was going on.
08:48From there, things devolved into a horror fest.
08:50Lights going on and off,
08:51objects moving about seemingly on their own.
08:54There's enough happening to make
08:55just about anyone lose their mind.
08:56But surprisingly, Rubzy maintains his composure
08:59throughout the ordeal, adding an even more unsettling layer
09:01to the unfolding situation.
09:12Number 39, 2002 Falun Gong hijackings.
09:16The spiritual movement Falun Gong gained notoriety
09:18in China after they were branded a heretical organization
09:21by the government in 1999.
09:22By the end of the 1990s,
09:24he had tens of millions of followers in China.
09:28The communist leadership saw that as a threat
09:30to its own grip on power and banned the movement.
09:34After years of physical protests and arrests,
09:37the group took their descent to the airwaves.
09:38In 2002, they hijacked state TV broadcasts,
09:41airing a film accusing
09:42the Chinese Communist Party of oppression.
09:44The film also claimed that the government
09:45staged certain events to give the group a bad image.
09:48Such anti-government messages
09:49are far from the norm in China,
09:51so they understandably left a lot of viewers stunned.
10:01The duration of these interruptions varies
10:03depending on who you ask,
10:04but they occurred multiple times throughout 2002,
10:06even once cutting off the FIFA World Cup finals.
10:09Number 38, a nearly fatal collision.
10:12News reporting can be a dangerous job,
10:13though seldom is it so unexpected as this case.
10:16KTVU correspondent Alex Savage
10:18was covering an unrelated incident
10:20alongside a San Francisco highway
10:22when an out-of-control automobile nearly smashed into him.
10:31As he leapt out of the way,
10:32the disoriented camera tilted
10:33and eerily settled on one of the tire's loose hubcaps.
10:36If that image of the crash's aftermath
10:38wasn't chilling enough,
10:39Savage's later reflections on the moment might be.
10:41Scary.
10:43It's scary.
10:44It's all right, Alex, it's okay.
10:45You collect your thoughts.
10:47We're just thankful to see you and Chip.
10:49Glad you're okay.
10:50He commented that his choice to go right
10:52instead of left was split-second.
10:54The footage is a hair-raising reminder
10:56that the forces threatening our mortality
10:58are often only moving forward,
10:59and the forces threatening our mortality
11:01are often only moments away.
11:03Just listen to Savage's shaking voice
11:04just moments afterward,
11:06and you might be robbed of peaceful sleep.
11:08Number 37, Wendy Williams passes out.
11:10This moment might hug the line between scary and creepy,
11:13but it's disturbing in either case.
11:14During what was supposed to be
11:15a fun Halloween-themed intro,
11:17veteran TV personality Wendy Williams
11:19suddenly lost control of her motor functions.
11:21She stumbled backwards in wide-eyed horror,
11:23inexplicably dropping to the floor.
11:25Get started.
11:26Our first caress.
11:30Oh!
11:31Oh!
11:32Oh!
11:33Oh!
11:34Oh!
11:35Williams later explained that dehydration
11:37and a sudden rise in body temperature
11:39caused the incident,
11:40and she was able to recover
11:41before the broadcast was even over.
11:42That was not a stunt.
11:45I'm overheated in my costume,
11:46and I did pass out,
11:47but you know what?
11:48I'm a champ, and I'm back.
11:51Though the incident was ultimately minor,
11:52the host definitely didn't know that at the time,
11:54and we can see that frightened uncertainty
11:56in her expression.
11:57And if you watch the clip without context,
11:59she almost looks possessed.
12:00Initial creepiness aside,
12:01we agree with Wendy's self-assessment
12:03of herself as a champ.
12:05Kevin said, you know, baby,
12:07I know you can do it.
12:09Go back out there and show them what you're made of.
12:11Close out the show.
12:12I said I know, right?
12:13Number 36, ventriloquist Senate candidate.
12:16In 2012, Republican hopeful Barry Hinckley
12:18challenged Democratic incumbent Sheldon Whitehouse
12:20for the Rhode Island Senate seat.
12:22During his campaign,
12:23Hinckley released an adorable ad
12:24featuring his young son Hudson
12:26that grabbed everyone's attention.
12:27However, when they both appeared
12:28for a follow-up interview on Fox News,
12:30many were unsettled by what they saw.
12:32When host Neil Cavuto questions Hudson about the ad,
12:35Hinckley strangely mouths the exact words the boy says.
12:37What do your friends say when they see you on TV?
12:41Um, I don't know right now.
12:44Did you notice the dad's lips moving?
12:46Sort of like a bad ventriloquist.
12:48If we didn't know any better,
12:49we'd think the Senate candidate and his son
12:51were just a bad ventriloquist act
12:53looking for some air time.
12:54The interview unsurprisingly left a bad taste
12:56in people's mouths,
12:57which may have contributed
12:58to Hinckley's eventual loss at the polls.
13:00Why were you mouthing the words that he said?
13:03Well, I'm not sure.
13:04You know, obviously we were both a bit nervous
13:06because it was the first time we did national TV.
13:08Number 35, mysteriously moving glass of water.
13:11The Primera Edición breakfast show in Honduras
13:14had their own fair share of a spooky occurrence
13:15during a live taping in 2015.
13:17While presenting the morning news,
13:18host Carlos Molina notices his glass of water
13:21move on its own.
13:23He's taken aback, naturally,
13:24and calls the attention of his co-host,
13:26Pablo Zapata, to it.
13:27Molina described feeling a chilling sensation
13:29just seconds before observing the self-sliding glass,
13:32attributing it to a paranormal experience.
13:37Viewers were a bit more skeptical, however,
13:40speculating that it was likely a prank
13:41on the hosts by their co-workers.
13:43This notion has since been dismissed by Molina,
13:45who countered that when he tried to move the glass,
13:47it would move on its own.
13:48He said,
13:49This notion has since been dismissed by Molina,
13:50who countered that when he tried
13:51to move the glass afterwards,
13:53it remained stuck to the table.
13:54Number 34, blue light in New York City.
13:57Aliens, UFOs, the apocalypse.
13:59Those were some of the thoughts on the minds of New Yorkers
14:01when a bright blue light engulfed the sky in December 2018.
14:04Many who were indoors witnessed the eerie lights
14:06being broadcast on the news,
14:08as they pretty much turned nighttime to day.
14:10Overnight, the New York City sky lit up
14:12in a supernatural shade of blue.
14:14Oh my God.
14:15What is that?
14:17That looks gnarly.
14:20Well, that doesn't look good.
14:21Sparking alarms citywide.
14:23To further complicate matters,
14:24some residents saw the lights in their homes flicker
14:26and the LaGuardia Airport experienced a total blackout.
14:29Fortunately, this one wasn't the work
14:30of any extraterrestrial force.
14:32Instead, the blue light was caused by an explosion
14:34at a power plant in Queens,
14:35which would explain the outages residents experienced.
14:38The explosion and fire knocking out power in the area
14:41and wreaking havoc at LaGuardia Airport.
14:44Guess the aliens decided to take a rain check
14:46on their invasion plans.
14:47Number 33, UFO flashes intense bright light.
14:50In February 2020, a crowd of over 200 people gathered
14:53for a UFO sighting at Yaya Beach in Peru,
14:56which has been described as a hotspot
14:57for the strange objects.
14:58The event was covered by Capitol TV
15:00and broadcast live to thousands of viewers.
15:02At one point, some people in the audience
15:04noticed an unexplained light hovering above the sea.
15:06They pointed their laser pens at the mysterious object
15:09only to be hit by an intense bright light in response.
15:11As the program was filmed late in the night,
15:13it's not quite clear what the light source could be.
15:15A boat, a drone, a UFO?
15:16We'll leave that for you to decide.
15:18Number 32, Spanish reporter with reptilian eyes.
15:21This unsettling footage was captured by a viewer
15:23who was watching the Spanish news channel
15:25Televisión Español Internacional.
15:27Towards the end of the piece,
15:28the reporter blinks repeatedly and for a brief moment,
15:31a second set of eyeballs appears over his closed eyelids.
15:33I'm looking at this reporter
15:35and I noticed something about his eyes
15:36at the very last minute.
15:38According to the viewer, this was possible proof
15:40of the reporter being an anthropomorphic reptile
15:42camouflaging among humans.
15:43The actual explanation, however,
15:45may be a lot less fantastic.
15:46Some internet users speculated that the reporter
15:49may have been wearing contact lenses,
15:50which made him blink often.
15:51There it is, the blink.
15:54I'm gonna do it in slow-mo now.
15:58There we go.
15:59That, combined with a camera compression glitch,
16:01likely resulted in the reptilian effect.
16:03Either way, the appearance is sure
16:04to give anyone watching the creeps.
16:06Number 31, paranormal newspapers.
16:09These days, it seems poltergeists
16:10and breakfast shows go hand in hand.
16:12Yet another alleged poltergeist disturbance
16:13occurred on the morning club show
16:15at Club FM in Tirana, Albania.
16:17At first, everything seems normal
16:18until suddenly it isn't.
16:19The host, Blendi Saleh, appears to be interviewing
16:22a guest on the program when a newspaper
16:23on the table in front of them
16:24abruptly flies off-camera.
16:28What makes this particularly disturbing
16:29is that the two are the only ones sitting in the booth
16:31and there aren't any doors open or windows in sight.
16:34Hello?
16:38So what exactly could have thrown
16:39the newspaper in the air?
16:41Understandably, Saleh and his guest are dumbfounded.
16:43Wow.
16:47And frankly, so are we.
16:48Number 30, TV solidarity.
16:50In September 1985, Polish audiences
16:53who tuned into the popular crime show
16:55ZO7GOSZCIE were met with strange inscriptions
16:58superimposed over the broadcast.
16:59The message read,
17:00enough price increases, lies, and repressions.
17:03Solidarity Torun, and it is our duty
17:05to boycott the election.
17:06It was later revealed that this intrusion
17:08was carried out by four astronomers
17:09from the University of Torun in Poland.
17:11This was done as a show of support
17:12for the Solidarity Opposition Movement,
17:14which had called for a boycott
17:16of the 1985 parliamentary elections
17:18in protest of the communist regime.
17:19This fight with the communist monster
17:21was really impossible.
17:25We could only fight against it
17:26by using its own weapons,
17:29because it pretended to be the people's system.
17:31The men were eventually apprehended,
17:33but due to their significant contributions
17:35to the Polish scientific community,
17:36they were only fined and given probation.
17:38Number 29, UFO descends on London football match.
17:41In February 2019, the eighth edition
17:43of the FA Women's League Cup was underway.
17:46The second semifinals match saw Arsenal
17:48go up against Manchester United,
17:49with the former winning by two goals to one.
17:51But it seems humans weren't the only ones
17:52interested in the league.
17:54During the aforementioned match,
17:55one eagle-eyed fan spotted a mysterious object
17:57hovering above the stadium.
17:59Where Melbourne Victory faced Perth Glory,
18:01that's at 2.45 a.m. on ESPN,
18:04and Brisbane Roar are up against Sydney.
18:06Upon closer inspection,
18:07the viewer noticed a strange red object
18:09emitting the light.
18:10Like many other sightings,
18:11it's hard to tell if this was some form of spacecraft
18:13or just a drone.
18:14That's at 2.45 a.m. on ESPN,
18:17and Brisbane Roar are up against Sydney Live.
18:19If it was indeed a bunch of aliens watching,
18:21we can only hope they at least enjoyed the game.
18:23Number 28, the ghostly groundsmen.
18:25In September 2016, football fans
18:27who tuned in to Sky Sports
18:28for Sunderland's match against Everton
18:30were in for a spooky surprise.
18:31Here's Lukaku, on for his hat-trick to finish it.
18:37While the pundits discussed the game afterwards,
18:39observant viewers picked up an enigmatic figure
18:41on a screen in the background,
18:43which then mysteriously vanished.
18:44The individual appeared to be a groundsman
18:46tidying up the stadium after the game.
18:48It's the fact that last season,
18:49they were a bit of an unknown quantity.
18:51Nobody really set up to play to nullify the strengths.
18:54This season, I think teams are ready for them.
18:56Moments later, a similar phenomenon
18:58occurred with another figure.
18:59Fans who spotted the ghost groundsman
19:01took to social media to voice out their perplexity.
19:03This could have been two phantoms caught on camera
19:05or just stock footage of the stadium being played on a loop.
19:08If only we knew which.
19:09Number 27, Flemish secession hoax.
19:12In 2006, the Belgian TV station RTBF
19:14orchestrated a hoax that caused quite the stir
19:16in the French-speaking parts of the country.
19:18On December 16th, they interrupted a broadcast
19:21on one of their channels with an urgent announcement
19:22that the Flemish parliament
19:24had declared independence from Belgium.
19:25The piece appeared genuine,
19:26including interviews with politicians
19:28and a fake evacuation of the Belgian royal family
19:31from their palace.
19:32To top it all off, they showed footage
19:33of crowds cheering and waving the Flanders flag.
19:35The result, more than 2,000 worried people
19:37flooded the station's hotline with calls,
19:39and their website eventually crashed.
19:4130 minutes later, RTBF admitted that the report was a hoax.
19:44Number 26, mystery voice
19:46interrupts Queen Elizabeth's funeral.
19:48The 2022 state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II
19:50was one of the most watched TV broadcasts in British history.
19:53With over 26 million residents
19:55tuning in to catch the event.
19:56Some of London's busiest routes closed, lined with people,
20:01throwing flowers, cheering, taking photos.
20:05Those who watched the funeral on ITV
20:07may have picked up a mysterious voice
20:08as the Queen's hearse made its way to West London.
20:11For a few seconds, a female voice can be heard
20:13whispering about death and being trapped.
20:14Death is irreversible, and the fact that she's trapped.
20:17As you can see.
20:18Soon after, social media erupted with speculation
20:20about where the sound could have come from.
20:22One notable theory surmised that it was possibly
20:24the voice of the late Princess Diana.
20:26However, according to certain sources,
20:27it was simply that of a guest being picked up
20:29by the presenter's microphone.
20:31Number 25, the Playboy Channel religious message.
20:34The last place you may expect to find the gospel
20:36is on the Playboy Channel.
20:37So we can imagine how stunned Playboy audiences were
20:39on Sunday, September 6th, 1987,
20:41when a broadcast of the adult film Three Daughters
20:44was interrupted by religious texts.
20:46Listen, I'm a little flabbergasted, but don't take it.
20:48The message came from the Bible verses
20:50Exodus 28 and Matthew 417,
20:53which warn them to repent and keep the Sabbath day holy.
20:55Safe to say that someone wasn't pleased
20:57with all of the unholy viewing going on.
20:59I know that she wants.
21:05A federal investigation later revealed
21:07that that someone was Thomas Haney,
21:09a technician at the Christian Broadcasting Network.
21:11Haney was found guilty of satellite piracy
21:13and sentenced to three years probation.
21:15Number 24, the Great Tantra Challenge.
21:17In March of 2008, audiences in India
21:19bore witness to a bizarre showdown.
21:20Author and self-proclaimed rationalist, Sainal Idamaruku,
21:24dared the tantric guru, Surinder Sharma,
21:26to kill him live on television.
21:28Sharma had bragged during a prior panel
21:30that he could take a person's life
21:31within three minutes using his mystic powers.
21:33Idamaruku then decided to put him to the test,
21:35volunteering himself as tribute.
21:37For several hours, Sharma seemingly invoked
21:39supernatural forces to take Idamaruku's life to no avail.
21:42At one point, the tantric claimed
21:43that his subjects served a more powerful god,
21:45to which Idamaruku reported that he was an atheist.
21:47The challenge was reportedly watched
21:49by hundreds of millions of viewers,
21:50all of whom witnessed Sharma's epic fail.
21:52Number 23, Captain Midnight.
21:54For four and a half minutes on April 27th, 1986,
21:57HBO experienced a signal intrusion
21:59that was caught by viewers along the East Coast.
22:01While showing the 1985 film, The Falcon and the Snowman,
22:04the feed abruptly cut to a blank screen
22:06with a strange text across it.
22:08The message appeared to have been sent
22:09by an individual named Captain Midnight,
22:11who didn't seem too pleased with HBO's subscription fees.
22:14An objection to the price HBO is charging dish owners
22:17for access to its recently scrambled programs.
22:19The signal got weaker, then after four minutes,
22:22the movie resumed.
22:23The incident was investigated by the FCC and FBI,
22:26resulting in the arrest of John R. McDougal.
22:28McDougal owned a satellite dish,
22:29which was struggling due to the cable channel's high rates.
22:32His protest earned him a little infamy,
22:33as well as a $5,000 fine.
22:35McDougal confessed to the FCC TV cops,
22:39and although the agency says his action,
22:41if it disrupted military or telephone communications,
22:43could be a very serious business.
22:45In this case, he'll get off with a $5,000 fine.
22:48Number 22, Samuel J. Seymour's Secret.
22:51The CBS game show, I've Got a Secret,
22:53featured a panel of celebrities
22:54trying to guess a contestant's secret.
22:56Most of these were funny or embarrassing,
22:57but on February 9th, 1956, 95-year-old Samuel J. Seymour
23:01strolled onto the set with a chilling account.
23:03Would this person have ever been
23:05President of the United States?
23:07Was he ever President, this man?
23:09I think he was once.
23:11Would it have been Abraham Lincoln?
23:13After being questioned by the celebrity panel,
23:15Seymour revealed that he was reportedly
23:16the last surviving witness
23:18of Abraham Lincoln's assassination.
23:20Seymour claimed that at the age of five,
23:21he sat across from the presidential box
23:23at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.
23:25when John Wilkes Booth fired the fatal shot.
23:27When he saw Booth jump from the box to the stage,
23:31at which time he broke his leg,
23:33his only concern was not with the president
23:35because he didn't realize that the president had been shot,
23:38but the poor man who fell out of the balcony.
23:40His haunting recollection of the event
23:42brought history to life
23:43and must have sent shivers down the spines
23:45of all who listened.
23:46Number 21, Dutch TV presenters eat each other.
23:49Yeah, you heard that right.
23:50In December 2011, Dennis Storm and Valerio Zeno,
23:53two presenters on the Dutch show Guinea Pigs,
23:55took a bite into the bizarre
23:56but seemingly devouring pieces of each other's flesh
23:58live on air.
23:59No jokes about fava beans and a nice Chianti here.
24:02It was undoubtedly an unsettling sight
24:04as Storm and Zeno underwent surgical procedures
24:07to remove small chunks of flesh
24:08from their buttocks and abdomen, respectively.
24:10These were then cooked by a chef
24:11in front of a live audience and presented to them.
24:13The brazen stunt certainly left a bad taste
24:15in many viewers' mouths.
24:16I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.
24:22Nevertheless, it didn't cross the legal line
24:24as cannibalism is permitted in the Netherlands,
24:26provided that it is not done with malicious intent.
24:29Number 20, zombie emergency alert.
24:32Back in 2013, a handful of Americans
24:34were tricked into thinking that Armageddon
24:36was finally at the door by a prankster
24:38who seemed to have been taking notes from Orson Welles.
24:41Metal casing is definitely extraterrestrial,
24:44not found on this earth.
24:45Friction with the earth's atmosphere
24:46usually tears holes in a meteorite.
24:48This thing is moving like a meteorite.
24:50In a meteorite, this thing is moving.
24:52The unnamed joker found a way to hack
24:54into a Montana TV station's emergency broadcast system
24:58and sent out a newsflash detailing the rise
25:00of the undead from their graves,
25:02along with a warning not to engage.
25:04The hoax announcement played over airings
25:06of the Steve Wilkos show, and despite its illegitimacy,
25:09the message sounded real enough to turn a few heads,
25:12stirring concern among viewers
25:13across parts of the United States.
25:15Do not attempt to approach or apprehend these bodies
25:18as they are considered extremely dangerous.
25:20Fortunately, it wasn't long before the truth was made known
25:23and the perpetrator was apprehended.
25:25Number 19, the haunted dolly.
25:27Here's one that'll rock the boat.
25:29On ITV's This Morning, a couple were being interviewed
25:32about alleged strange activity surrounding a China doll
25:35they'd gotten from a thrift store.
25:36You almost look like, Deb,
25:37you don't want to even look at the doll.
25:38No, I don't. Are you a bit scared?
25:39I don't even wanna touch it.
25:40Really? Yeah.
25:41This included scratches on the husband
25:43and sporadic fire alarm bursts.
25:45Whilst the hosts were rightly skeptical,
25:48viewers were more convinced.
25:49They observed the doll start to rock in its chair
25:52during the interview, seemingly of its own volition.
25:54As that chair's beginning to rock.
25:55Oh, the chair's rocking.
25:57Look at that. Who's doing that?
25:58Stop it. Who's doing that?
26:00The doll was on the show again just a few weeks later,
26:02but this time with a new owner.
26:04The lady who brought the doll in here,
26:05originally who brought it,
26:06she said her husband was scratched on his arms and legs.
26:09Yeah, she did, didn't she?
26:10So do you believe that this doll has done that?
26:12Yes, I do, because I've been scratched
26:15over the past week or eight days
26:17of having the doll on my arm.
26:19It's no surprise the toy changed hands so quickly.
26:22We've all seen enough movies to know
26:24that keeping possessed dolls around is a big no-no.
26:27Number 18, Wrestlemania Chokeout.
26:30It's well known that pro wrestling is a staged,
26:32but nonetheless dangerous sport
26:34that can inflict some serious injury.
26:36Richard Belzer learned this when he was choked out
26:38by Hulk Hogan on his talk show in 1985.
26:41The Hulkster, who was on the show with Mr. T
26:44promoting the very first Wrestlemania,
26:46was asked by Belzer to demonstrate some wrestling moves
26:49in keeping with the promotion.
26:50Hogan responded with a headlock
26:52that sent him straight to sleep.
26:54Mr. T quickly tried to ease the shocked crowd
26:56during Belzer's blackout with a few reassuring quips.
26:59I was a sleeper, Ho.
26:59He'd be all right.
27:01And Belzer fortunately regained consciousness
27:04along with a few stitches
27:05and one heck of an anecdote some moments later.
27:08And now, we'll be right back after this word
27:10from you-know-who.
27:12Woo!
27:14Number 17, the Vietnam War Draft Lottery.
27:17Who wants to be a veteran?
27:19In 1969, at the peak of the war in Vietnam,
27:22CBS televised a draft lottery
27:24to determine individuals for military service
27:27and aired live from Washington's
27:29Selective Service Headquarters.
27:31The draft lottery, a live report on tonight's picking
27:34of the birthdates for the draft.
27:36The lottery worked by drawing birthdates at random
27:39followed by a second drawing of letters of the alphabet
27:42to decide which men would be sent overseas first.
27:44This controversial method had not been used
27:47since 1942 during World War II.
27:50Though we thankfully live in a time
27:51where such a lottery is neither necessary nor permitted,
27:54watching this broadcast today is a chilling reminder
27:57that the futures of hundreds of men
27:59were decided by a simple sheet of paper
28:01that they watched pulled at random on television.
28:04September 14th.
28:07September 14, zero, zero, one.
28:14Number 16, San Francisco earthquake newsflash.
28:18California is no stranger to the occasional rumble,
28:21but the cameras happened to be rolling
28:22during a big one in 1989.
28:25During the World Series that saw the San Francisco Giants
28:28take out the Oakland Athletics,
28:29an enormous earthquake struck the Bay Area
28:32and was caught live on television.
28:34With a magnitude of 6.9, the Loma Prieta quake
28:38was large enough to interrupt the broadcast of the game.
28:41Though it can easily be misinterpreted as crowd jubilation,
28:44screams can actually be heard
28:45just before the game feed is cut
28:47and the picture switches to the news.
28:49Candy Maldonado with the hesitation,
28:52allowing Jose Canseco to score
28:54and he fails to get Dave Parker at second base,
28:59so the Oakland A's take.
29:01Take.
29:02I'll tell you what, we're having a nerd.
29:05Though the stadium was able to withstand the tremors,
29:08the rest of the city was subjected
29:09to major power disruptions, blackouts, and property damage.
29:13The downtown section of Santa Cruz is basically gone.
29:16All the old brick, unreinforced buildings have collapsed.
29:20This is a department store called Ford's.
29:22It collapsed, the second store,
29:24a second story came down into the first floor,
29:26trapping several people inside.
29:28Number 15, Czech TV's Panorama prank.
29:31What a bombshell to drop.
29:32In 2007, as viewers of Czech television's program Panorama
29:36were treated to a beautiful shot of the mountain,
29:39the tranquility was soon ruined by a blinding white light
29:42and the unmistakable sight of a mushroom cloud.
29:52The bombing was quickly and fortunately revealed as a hoax,
29:55masterminded by the guerrilla art pranksters
29:57known collectively as Zitoven.
29:59The group had apparently hacked the show's live camera feed
30:02where they could then overwrite the footage
30:04with a CGI render they'd prepared.
30:06Zitoven explained that the prank illustrated
30:09how easy it can be for the media to manipulate
30:11and influence its consumers with false information.
30:14The length some artists will go
30:15to get their work shown on TV.
30:17Number 14, the disappearing airport lady.
30:20Luggage goes missing all the time at terminals,
30:22but human beings, not so much.
30:24Yet that's what appeared to happen during an interview
30:27for Danish network's TV2 Sports Center.
30:29At an airport baggage claim,
30:31just behind the gentleman on camera,
30:33a blonde woman seemed to vanish into thin air
30:36as another traveler passed in front of her.
30:38Freaky stuff for viewers who saw it live,
30:40but a logical explanation does exist.
30:42The ghost lady was identified
30:44as Danish handball player Trina Jensen.
30:47Under close analysis, she can be assumed
30:49to have walked in tandem with the passing woman,
30:51creating an optical illusion.
30:53In the moment, however, it seemed like a paranormal
30:55phenomena right out of the X-Files.
30:58Number 13, talk show possession.
31:00Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
31:06There's certainly more to this girl than meets the eye.
31:09On a talk show in 2016, Thai model Tipawa Chaphupuang
31:13made an appearance and claimed to have been possessed
31:15by an evil bloodthirsty ghost while holidaying.
31:18This entity, known as Pop, was said to hunger
31:20for animal blood and human flesh.
31:22The confused hosts then watched as Chaphupuang
31:26began to exhibit strange behavior,
31:28muttering to herself and screaming.
31:30Ah!
31:32Ah!
31:35Most viewers were disturbed by her behavior,
31:38but not so much sold on it.
31:40Many called it suspiciously convenient
31:42that Pop took hold on live television.
31:44Regardless, it hardly made for comfortable viewing.
31:47Number 12, pray or phone in possession.
31:50Chaphupuang's live actions
31:52may have been uneasy to the eyes,
31:54but this next example of on-air possession
31:56proved to be an assault on the ears.
31:58We've got our first caller, inshallah to Allah.
32:00As-salamu alaykum, rahmatullah.
32:04Walaykum as-salam, rahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
32:07You okay, sister?
32:08This religious live show encourages viewers
32:10to call in and receive advice and guidance
32:13from a holy sheikh.
32:14One such phone call was made by a woman in 2011,
32:17claiming to have been overtaken by a demonic entity
32:20known colloquially as a djinn.
32:21Also, um...
32:29Also...
32:35The woman then supposedly underwent
32:37a sudden change in personality while staying on the line,
32:40laughing sinisterly as she mocked the Islamic host.
32:43Protocol.
32:47The sheikh proceeded to banish the demon
32:49with an impromptu exorcism,
32:51and the bizarre episode was done.
32:53Whether it was fake or genuine, it was certainly creepy.
32:56Number 11, Los Angeles EBS.
32:581992 was the year Los Angeles descended into chaos
33:02as riots erupted following the acquittal
33:04of the officers behind Rodney King's
33:06heavily publicized abuse.
33:08We saw what we saw.
33:10What we saw was a crime.
33:11You got another white jury saying that it's okay
33:14for white cops to beat up black people,
33:16and that's racism American style,
33:18and it's been that way from the get.
33:20King's ruthless assault at the hands of the LAPD
33:23was videotaped and broadcast a year earlier
33:25to massive outcry.
33:27During the riots, as angered citizens looted stores
33:30and destroyed public property,
33:32an emergency broadcast was sent out
33:34across all of LA County's biggest TV stations
33:37to inform the public of the carnage.
33:39In the message, an emergency curfew was announced
33:41to be in effect from 6.45 p.m. onward.
33:44This is the activation of the emergency broadcast system
33:47for LA County.
33:49Effective at 6.45 p.m. this date,
33:52the Los Angeles County Emergency Operations Center
33:55has announced expanded boundaries
33:57for the emergency curfew.
33:59This chilling yet formal announcement
34:01heralded a rise in tension for the citizens of Los Angeles
34:04as they watched the collapse of their social order
34:07unfold on screen.
34:08Number 10, alien lights over Milwaukee.
34:11It was only a matter of time until aliens came up.
34:13During a live Fox 6 news broadcast,
34:16a group of mysterious lights were seen
34:18floating above the Milwaukee night sky.
34:20The news team was understandably alarmed
34:22and quickly began to speculate as to the cause,
34:25with explanations ranging from fireworks to shooting stars
34:28and finally, aliens.
34:30It's a strange sight at first glance,
34:32certainly enough to cause some confusion
34:34and maybe even a little concern,
34:36but it only took about a half an hour
34:38to shoot down ET expectations.
34:40Mystery solved, about 30 minutes later,
34:42we're sitting in our truck here
34:43outside the Milwaukee County Courthouse
34:45and we heard them.
34:46An alternative angle closer to the activity
34:48shows it to be nothing more than a flock of seagulls
34:51reflecting the bright lights of the city.
34:53That's right, close encounters of the bird kind.
34:56Now that the sun's up, you can see no aliens here in Milwaukee,
35:00just a lot of seagulls.
35:02Number nine, the Australian Mayday incident.
35:05While not technically a live event,
35:07these issues with broadcasting happened in real time.
35:10During the airing of an episode
35:11of the documentary series Mayday,
35:13the audio from a previous news broadcast
35:16somehow replaced some of the original show's audio.
35:18This eerie new soundtrack was a looping soundbite
35:21of a Halliburton truck driver
35:23reacting to his convoy being ambushed in Iraq.
35:26For six freaky minutes,
35:27everyone at home watching
35:28was subjected to the driver repeating,
35:30"'Jesus Christ, help us all, Lord,' over and over."
35:34Jesus Christ, help us all, Lord.
35:36Amen.
35:37Jesus Christ, help us all, Lord.
35:39Amen.
35:40Jesus Christ, help us all, Lord.
35:42Amen.
35:43The fact that this was coinciding with footage
35:45relating to a passenger train crash
35:47made a deeply unsettling end result.
35:50The creepiest part is nobody knows exactly how it happened.
35:53Mayday, indeed.
35:54Number eight, Jamaican ghost attack.
35:57In 2010, a Jamaican news crew investigated reports
36:00of an alleged poltergeist attack
36:01on a young boy in Spanish Town.
36:03The boy claimed he was being pestered by a poltergeist
36:06known in Jamaican folklore as a duppy
36:08and that this specter was a recently deceased friend
36:11who was now haunting him post-mortem.
36:14I don't want you to hurt anyone!
36:16The news crew were astonished during the interview
36:19when he was seemingly grabbed and dragged around
36:21like a rag doll,
36:22whilst onlookers desperately attempted to intervene.
36:26Unsettling as it seems,
36:27the case should be taken with a grain of salt.
36:29Most cases involving children
36:31who report being bothered by spirits
36:33are usually attributed to a neglected
36:35or traumatized child lashing out.
36:37Try to take him away and let me see.
36:40Well, you're afraid.
36:40You're a coward.
36:42You're not doing nothing.
36:48Hey, watch out!
36:50All right, all right, all right.
36:51In this case, lashing out is putting it lightly.
36:54Number seven, the running shadow.
36:56So, we've gone through aliens.
36:58Now, how about moving shadows?
37:00During the broadcast of a soccer game
37:01at the Hernando Siles Stadium in 2014,
37:04cameras caught a glimpse of what appeared
37:06to be a moving dark figure.
37:08Although it was running at full speed,
37:09people in the crowd didn't seem to notice.
37:11What made this incident all the more creepy
37:13was the fact that the figure can be seen
37:15moving through fans and even a barrier.
37:18While some theorized that the figure
37:19was in fact a soccer player double exposed on camera,
37:22to this day, the cause of this mysterious apparition
37:25remains unknown.
37:26Number six, the UFO summoner.
37:29Is seeing really believing?
37:30He's a Las Vegas man who claims
37:32he can summon UFOs on command.
37:34Pretty wild.
37:35So, we see a UFO summoner.
37:37So, we sent action news reporter Mike Delistrito
37:40to get the real story.
37:41But what he found shocked everyone.
37:43In 2005, Ramon Watkins, a man from Las Vegas
37:47who called himself Yahweh, claimed to have learned
37:49from the Old Testament how to summon UFOs.
37:52In a news report meant to expose him as a fraud,
37:54an ABC news reporter was left baffled
37:57when Watkins proceeded to seemingly manifest
37:59mysterious orbs of light floating in the sky.
38:02I could see it clear as day.
38:04In fact, it's bright.
38:05I can't believe this.
38:07It's moving pretty fast.
38:08It's going to Nellis Air Force Base.
38:11It wants to be seen.
38:12The orange lights danced above their heads momentarily
38:15before disappearing.
38:16Many who saw this demonstration hailed it
38:18as evidence of the Almighty,
38:20referring to the fact that it had been the news team
38:22who had picked the location, day, and time
38:24to conduct the interview,
38:26leaving practically no room for Watkins
38:28to have feasibly staged the summoning.
38:30Divine power or complex misdirection?
38:33How's that for a magic trick?
38:35Number five, the Vrillon hoax.
38:38Across the pond in 1977,
38:40something even more bizarre occurred.
38:42The UK's Southern Television
38:43had their evening news interrupted
38:45by a six-minute audio message
38:47of apparent extraterrestrial origin.
38:49The unsettling, booming voice coming through
38:51claimed to represent the Ashtar Galactic Command.
38:56In Australia, Mr. Kerry Packer's cricketers
38:58are still feeding the pack.
38:59Yes, it is an ideal decision.
39:01We'll stick with it now on the plane in Tasmania.
39:04This is the voice of Allah,
39:07representative of the Ashtar Galactic Command,
39:11speaking to you.
39:12These aliens offered humanity a peaceful alliance
39:16if they renounced their corrupt ways and weapons of war,
39:19speaking cultishly of new ages
39:21and promises of transcendence.
39:23This technology is really appreciable,
39:26so it's worth understanding that we can't
39:28defend it against alien systems.
39:32The channel apologized
39:33for the outlandish signal intrusion,
39:35chalking it up to a hoax.
39:37It would indeed be strange
39:38if aliens broadcast a message to just one channel.
39:41Those responsible have never come forward.
39:43Dare we look up to the sky and wonder?
39:45There are many things in your existence.
39:49May you be blessed.
39:50I was a real man from a man's world.
39:54Number four, Justin from Big Brother 2.
39:57Slimeball Justin Sebek was frequently overly confrontational
40:01with other contestants during his tenure on Big Brother.
40:04No, Justin, no.
40:07Don't do it.
40:08But the act that finally got him kicked off the series
40:11went way beyond typical reality show conflicts.
40:13Justin famously, and quite rightly,
40:16got evicted for disturbing behavior
40:18involving fellow housemate Krista.
40:20After some drinks, the two began kissing and flirting
40:24when Justin suddenly held up a knife and threatened her.
40:27Would you get mad if I killed you?
40:28The drama didn't end there.
40:30A year after being kicked out of the house,
40:32Justin was arrested and charged
40:33with assaulting his girlfriend.
40:35To say Krista and the other housemates
40:37dodged a bullet is a massive understatement.
40:39You should feel real sorry for Justin.
40:41I really don't.
40:42I'm sorry he did it to himself.
40:45You know, he got warned and warned and warned and warned.
40:47Number three, a criminal on The Dating Game.
40:50Not quite your Mr. Right.
40:51On a 1978 episode of The Dating Game,
40:54Bachelorette Cheryl Bradshaw
40:56chose contestant Rodney Alcala as her man.
40:59Well, let's see.
41:00Bachelor number one is a successful photographer
41:02who got his start when his father found him
41:04in the dark room at the age of 13, fully developed.
41:08Though he was a successful photographer,
41:10Alcala was later turned down by Bradshaw
41:12for his creepy behavior.
41:14Why do you say that?
41:15Because that's the only time there is.
41:17The only time?
41:18What's wrong with morning, afternoon?
41:21Well, they're okay,
41:22but nighttime's when it really gets good.
41:24Bradshaw may have escaped with their life.
41:26It turns out that Alcala was a repeated offender
41:28of serious crimes,
41:30including a string of killings
41:31he committed throughout the 70s,
41:33and his rejection on the show
41:34may have been a contributing factor
41:36in the murder of a further three women.
41:39Alcala is serving life in prison to this day,
41:41and his final kill count remains ambiguous.
41:44We're gonna have a great time together, Cheryl.
41:46Serial killers are tremendous actors.
41:48Number two, Gary Stolman.
41:50The lengths people will go to to make themselves heard.
41:52Saw us arriving, he put the gun down and said,
41:55I don't wanna hurt anybody, and that was it.
41:58In the middle of a 1987 broadcast,
42:00Gary Stolman walked onto the KNBC set
42:03behind TV reporter David Horowitz
42:05and pointed a gun at his back,
42:07ordering him to read a statement
42:08concerning paranoid theories
42:10that the CIA cloned Stolman's father.
42:12The blindsided presenters were clearly horrified,
42:15but Horowitz was able to keep us cool throughout.
42:18The statement ended with the admission
42:20that the firearm was a BB-firing replica
42:22before Stolman calmly placed the toy on the desk,
42:25apparently having never intended to harm anyone.
42:28The gunman placed the gun on the desk
42:30and anchorman John Beard grabbed it.
42:32Burbank police wrestled a man to the floor.
42:35He has been identified as Gary Stolman,
42:37and he said he never intended to harm anyone.
42:40Indeed, the gun proved a fake.
42:41This incident resulted in Horowitz spearheading a campaign
42:44to ban realistic toy firearms.

43:03Number one, the Max Headroom hijack.
43:06In 1987, two television stations in Chicago were hijacked
43:10in perhaps the most surreal act
43:12of video piracy ever recorded.
43:13Takes some pretty significant equipment,
43:17technical equipment, and some knowledge
43:18of broadcast frequencies.
43:20Both instances featured an unidentified man
43:23dressed as obscure TV personality Max Headroom
43:26dancing to distorted audio.
43:28The second video, significantly longer,
43:31saw the man rambling incoherently in a distorted voice.
43:34Oh, and being swatted on the behind
43:36by an off-screen accomplice.
43:37You're trying, but it's the only way to learn.
43:41I'll get you a hot drink, miss.
43:42I've seen some dry clothing.
43:43Because he's a freak, you know it.
43:47He's got it in that barren chest.
43:48Responses to the rubber-grinned menace
43:50ranged from bemused to horrified,
43:52and the perpetrators of this seemingly random act
43:55were never identified.
43:56The segments lasted no more than a couple of minutes,
43:59but have gone down as among the most notorious incidents
44:02in television history.
44:03That face is not an easy one to forget.
44:05My brother is wearing the other one, but it's dirty.
44:11Did you watch any of these creepy occurrences live?
