Shrewsbury Flower Show 2024 - Day 1
Transcript
00:00It's the new one this year, first time out, so I try and do something different every
00:12year and this is this year's offering.
00:15I had quite a rather loud blazer but not a suit.
00:19So it's always a piece of clothing.
00:20Floral theme, yeah.
00:21Floral theme, brilliant.
00:22Blending.
00:23This actually is a Chinese Elm and it's actually used as hedging abroad but they actually style
00:31them and then create the pads to make it look more like a bonsai tree because the word bonsai
00:36means tree in a pot.
00:37So I'm Dominic Cleverham, representing CDS Plants.
00:40It's mine and my dad's business who is just on the other stand behind us.
00:43We're based in South Bristol.
00:45I'm an orchid specialist.
00:46I've been doing this for around about nine years now.
00:50So I've always done shows ever since I was very small, obviously growing up with my dad
00:52doing it.
00:53And then I started doing my own stand about nine-ish years ago and then this is my second
00:58full-time year doing shows properly.
01:18A teacher over at William Brookes School in Much Wenlock, we've been working with a group
01:22of several groups of students since January to create the garden that's behind me now.
01:28We've got a design group that have been working on the initial design, a construction group
01:33who have made the actual structure of our containers and finished those off for us.
01:38We've had a gardening group as well who have done the actual growing of the plants and
01:42I'm with the school's production team, presentation team today.
01:47The theme of the garden is set by the organisers of the show.
01:51It's Stronger Working Together this year.
01:54So we based our design on the theme of a colour spectrum, which we tried to blend in, match
02:02the colours of the plants to the containers as we've gone along.
02:05So we've run through from red through to...
02:07We're the only UK Coubertin school in the UK, which gives us a link to Baron Pierre
02:14Coubertin, who was the founder of the modern day Olympics and he came over to Much Wenlock
02:18in the late Victorian times and met up with the local doctor at the time, a guy called
02:23William Brooks, who we got our school name from and he was inspired that much by the
02:28Wenlock Olympic Games that he went then back to his home and he created the modern day
02:34Olympics that we know and enjoy today.
