Wild Porcupine Demands Fresh Fruit Until His Paw Heals
Very friendly wild porcupine hurts his paw — and the treatment is giving him fresh fruit until he's strong enough to climb trees again! Our producer Brielle talked with Kari, who jumped in to supply Alfred with endless oranges and avocados. Then The Dodo sent him a get-well present and he LOVED it ❤️

00:00This is Alfred. Alfred is a friendly resident porcupine with a passion for snacking.
00:11Hi Alfred!
00:18As a dodo producer and fellow snacker who's always hunting for great animal stories,
00:22you could probably see why I had to explore this further.
00:25So I reached out to Alfred's landlord, Carrie, to get the scoop.
00:30After moving into her new house,
00:34Carrie started to find peculiar animal tracks all over her property.
00:38You can see where all the prints are.
00:47Then one day, Alfred made his first appearance in her yard.
00:53He was so comfortable, you'd think he owned the place.
00:55Initially, Alfred would keep his distance, but his visits became more and more frequent.

01:05But then he showed up one day with a leg injury.
01:08Poor guy had a limp in one of his front paws.
01:11So Carrie called the local wildlife hotline to get her new friend some help.
01:17To her surprise, there was a porcupine virus going around the local wildlife shelters,
01:21so they couldn't take Alfred in.
01:23Instead, they encouraged her to nurture him back to health herself,
01:27with their guidance of course.
01:30The mission was simple.
01:32Monitor his condition regularly,
01:34and feed him tons of fresh fruits until he's strong enough to climb trees again.

01:39Operation snack time was a go.
01:46She started feeding Alfred a variety of citrines and apples.
01:50Alfred loves apples.
01:53She's even gotten creative in her kitchen and cut him up some fresh fruit salad.
01:58So cute!
02:04As you can imagine, Alfred was loving this.
02:08He visited every day for his daily snack, and he appeared to grow stronger.
02:14At this point, I wanted in on the action.
02:17I decided to pull some dodo strings and send Alfred a very special gift
02:21to celebrate his fast-approaching recovery.
