00:00Signing an NDA probably isn't the first thing you think of when you start dating someone
00:05new. But if you're thinking of dating Tiger Woods, you're probably going to need to.
00:10Woods has had quite the love life in the public eye, with details of his romances hitting
00:14the headlines over many years. The star was famously married to Ellen Nordegren, the mother
00:18of their children, from 2004 until 2010, during which time he admitted to having a number
00:23of affairs.
00:24I offer my profound apology for these multiple transgressions."
00:28Multiple?
00:31After a media firestorm, the star publicly apologized for his actions during a 2010 press
00:36conference.
00:37I was wrong. I was foolish. I don't get to play by different rules."
00:42Nordegren has since moved on from their romance, and so has Woods. He's even been involved
00:47in a few public relationships in the wake of their grueling divorce. And it looks like
00:51signing nondisclosure agreements is becoming a bit of a running theme with the ladies
00:55in his life.
00:56Tiger Woods has been accused of making his girlfriend sign NDAs multiple times, with
01:00one of the most famous cases dating back to 2009, when Rachel Uchitel claimed she signed
01:05a 30-page document given to her by the Woods team. The document reportedly stopped her
01:10from being able to speak out about the golfer, who she had a relationship with during his
01:14marriage to Ellen Nordegren. Uchitel told The New York Times in 2021,
01:18His lawyers are saying,
01:19"'We want all your text messages, and here's the price,' and you're like, screw you, and
01:23you move into deal-maker mode, and all of a sudden it's the rest of your life."
01:27It was reported that Uchitel was given $5 million and another $1 million each year for
01:31three years for signing the NDA. But it sounds like Uchitel was tired of being silenced.
01:37She was interviewed, saying, quote,
01:38"'I've had it with NDAs.'"
01:40One year later, the Daily Mail reported that Emma Rotherham allegedly received hundreds
01:44of thousands of dollars for signing a confidentiality agreement with Woods. It was alleged that
01:48she was paid to sign in exchange for being quiet about what purportedly went on between
01:53them while Woods was still married to Nordegren. In 2018, TMZ Sports claimed Tiger Woods' former
01:58girlfriend, Kristen Smith, also signed an NDA as a result of her relationship with him.
02:03It isn't known if she ever actually put her signature on the line, but it was reported
02:07that she felt the NDA was not enforceable.
02:09More recently, Woods' ex-girlfriend, Erica Herman, headed to court over the NDA she signed
02:14in 2017 as a result of her relationship with Woods. She filed court documents asking that
02:18it not be enforced due to the Speak Out Act.
02:21I honestly don't feel comfortable with it."
02:24Herman alleged she had supposedly made an oral agreement with Woods that would allow
02:28her to stay at their home for a set amount of time in the case of a split, but claimed
02:31that was not honored. Lawyers for Woods said,
02:34"...Mr. Woods never negotiated an oral tenancy agreement with Ms. Herman, nor was there ever
02:39a written tenancy agreement between Mr. Woods or the trust."
02:42Though NDAs are all about privacy, Erica Herman's didn't exactly stay that way. In March 2023,
02:48Tiger Woods' lawyers shared a redacted copy of the paperwork after the former couple continued
02:53to fight it out in court.
02:54The document highlighted the stipulation that any disputes between Herman and Woods had
02:58to be handled in a private manner. As reported by TMZ Sports, the golfer's team countered,
03:03stating,
03:04"...Ms. Herman's position is utterly meritless. It is a transparent abuse of the judicial process
03:09that undermines the purpose of the federal statute and those whom the statute seeks to
03:13protect."
03:14A source told Us Weekly that after five years together, Woods and Herman split because,
03:18"...Erica thought Tiger was never at home, and Tiger thought Erica was spending too much
03:22and living too lavish of a lifestyle."
03:24It appears neither have spoken publicly about their split, and if the NDAs are upheld, no
03:29one will.
03:30I've never experienced, you know, that amount of noise.
