00:00On the 4th occasion, a new alliance was formed by the Federal Party of the Philippines led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
00:10The President initiated the alliance signing between the PFP and the Nationalista Party.
00:16According to the President, the PFP's alliance with other parties is in response to the call for unity and to support the rapid change of the government.
00:27The PFP was the first party to form an alliance with the Nationalist People's Coalition, Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats, and National Unity Party.
00:36The PFP is led by President R. Marcos, Jr., which was established in 2018.
00:43We will continue our discussion with Sir Obert Martin, the President of Pasang Mazda.
00:54Obert, good afternoon and welcome to Bagong Pilipinas.
00:57Good afternoon, Asek Weng and Nina, and to Bagong Pilipinas, a good afternoon to all of us.
01:03Sir, the transport strike has just ended, right?
01:06So, what can you say about President R. Marcos, Jr.'s statement that the Public Transport Modernization Program continues despite the so-called temporary suspension?
01:17You know, Asek Weng and Nina, I'm happy, but what we did was not a transport strike, but a unity walk.
01:25And even though our members of the Transport Cooperative and Corporation continue to walk,
01:32to let our countrymen know and to all of us, especially President R. Marcos,
01:41that we really respect all the resolutions made by the Senators of our country.
01:49For the supporters of this program, how is it for your fellow drivers and operators to finish the consolidation phase of the program?
01:58Well, after the consolidation process, our President finished it.
02:04When we had a town hall meeting in San Juan,
02:09he told the President that the consolidation process was finished by April 30,
02:16and this was proposed by our President-elect, BBM,
02:20and he said that this is finished and the Program Modernization Program will continue.
02:25So, sir, if the suspension continues, what do you think will be the effect on the consolidated operators and drivers?
02:33Well, that's what we all want, because 82% of the participants in the program are already here.
02:39And I had a press conference last Friday, and we said that even if this program is suspended,
02:48we will continue with the Program Modernization Program.
02:53We talked to the Secretary of Transportation, Secretary Jimmy Bautista,
02:58and he said that the President is behind us on this.
03:02We will continue.
03:04As a Queng, we started this, and we will continue to buy new vehicles
03:10so that we can have a safe, convenient transportation.
03:19Because, as I mentioned, in our traditional business, I came from there.
03:23I will not leave that.
03:24A lot of vehicles are being cut off.
03:27Women are being left behind.
03:29A lot of women are being left behind.
03:35So, this program is one of the supports for the previous administration and for the previous administrations.
03:41That's why we, even if they suspended it,
03:45as I said, since 82%, we will continue to serve our customers.
03:51We will continue to purchase because this is the beginning.
03:55Our main objective is to provide a good service and safety to our customers.
04:00As what the President said yesterday, who will adjust?
04:03The 82% for the 18% who don't want to?
04:07Or the 18% who will adjust to the majority?
04:10So, how do you encourage your colleagues to embrace this?
04:15Let's accept this modernization.
04:17Well, for those 82%, I am the one who is walking to my groups
04:22that this is the best program of our government.
04:25Because, let's say that there is a miscommunication in other groups,
04:32it is not well disseminated.
04:34So, the LKFRB, the Regional Office and Central Office,
04:38they are all calling the members of the Jeepneys in other places in our nation
04:44and they are teaching them what kind of benefits you will get from this program.
04:50So, proper dissemination of information is really needed by our friends and family.
04:58And there are still a few who do not understand.
05:01Like the two groups, they understand that they want a modernization program
05:05but they don't want to understand.
05:07And what they want is their model of Jeepneys to be followed
05:11that is not based on the Philippine National Standard.
05:14Actually, we really want to modernize and improve our transport system.
05:20But in reality, I still hear that sometimes we have fellow countrymen or commuters,
05:26correct me if I'm wrong, that they don't have a car.
05:29Or they don't have enough.
05:30They say, where are the modern Jeepneys you are talking about?
05:34It's like the ending, they pay more than they used to.
05:38That's what's happening with the routes, the Niña and Acequeng.
05:44During rush hour, we really have a shortage of vehicles.
05:48And the models of those vehicles are not yet complete here in the National Capital Trading.
05:54We admit that.
05:56Because their consolidation is on process.
05:59It means that when you consolidate, it's not outright.
06:02You have to purchase a new one.
06:04You need to have a good route, complete management, proper dispatching of units.
06:10We practice them, the co-ops and corporations.
06:14Now, if they are ready, out of, for example, a route that has 100 units running,
06:20what we need to put here is 60.
06:22So they will only purchase the 60.
06:25They will say, how about the 40?
06:27It will be lost.
06:28It will not be displaced because it is a cooperative or corporation.
06:33The dividend will be divided equally among the operators, members of the cooperative and corporation.
06:42And just for the knowledge of our countrymen or the public,
06:46not all the modern jeepneys are already here.
06:50It's not like the next day, it's already there.
06:52That's right.
06:53So it will take time.
06:54Yes.
06:55So in the meantime that they are not here,
06:57what will be the transport system of our countrymen if the modern ones are stopped?
07:05No.
07:06The modern ones that consolidate, the traditional units, jeepneys, will still run.
07:12What is stopped here is the one that is not a part of the program.
07:16Meaning, those that did not consolidate, did not form a corporation or cooperative,
07:22they really don't want that.
07:23So their franchise has expired.
07:25And that is the time that they will be apprehended.
07:28Considered as colorum.
07:30That's how it is.
07:32And the modern jeepneys or like the minibuses that we see,
07:36when will we really see or feel the arrival of these?
07:41And we will see on the streets that they are getting better.
07:44Yes, at least 99%.
07:47The vehicles are getting better.
07:49I'm not just talking about the minibuses or coasters that you are talking about,
07:53but also the traditional-looking jeepneys that pass the standards.
07:58You know, Nina and Asekweng, the choice is in the cooperative.
08:03We still have the traditional jeepney, the iconic look.
08:07We have a provider for that based on the Philippine national standard.
08:12Maybe the other cooperative and corporations,
08:15I just want the new look because we are on the theme of change.
08:20So we are not leaving the old ones.
08:22We have a provider for that that our co-ops and corporations can buy.
08:29This is also made locally that looks like our traditional jeepneys.
08:34So this is still the jeepney that we are looking for.
08:38Then the aircon, can you describe it?
08:41It can no longer be fastened?
08:43That's right.
08:44It can no longer be fastened and stolen?
08:48This traditional jeepney is enclosed with glass.
08:52Then the lower part on the right side is like a bus.
08:55You can already stand there with the aircon.
08:58So you can no longer be stolen by thieves or robbers.
09:01And when you get off, you are safe because you are already on the right side.
09:04Not on the back.
09:05Not on the back.
09:06But it is a traditional jeepney.
09:10It looks bigger.
09:12It's a bit bigger because it has the right dimensions for the Philippine National Standard.
09:18How much does a modern traditional jeepney cost?
09:23When I asked her in 2018, her answer was 2 million.
09:28That's expensive.
09:29For me, I bought a minibus that costs 1.8 million for Class 2 and 1.9 million for Class 3.
09:37It was cheap back then.
09:38But now?
09:39Now, it's a bit expensive.
09:40It's expensive now.
09:41It's 0.5 to 0.7 million.
09:42So that's one of the things I'm investigating.
09:44I want to know why it's so cheap.
09:48There are reasons why it's so cheap.
09:50Maybe there's free Wi-Fi.
09:51Of course, there's inflation.
09:53It's really expensive now.
09:54There are a lot of things.
09:56It's really expensive.
09:57But I hope they can find a way to...
10:00We still have traditional jeepneys that we can see.
10:05That's right.
10:06It's affordable for our operators.
10:09That's right.
10:10Okay.
10:11Thank you very much.
10:12Maybe this is not the last time.
10:14What do you think should be done by some groups that are still in the Public Transport Modernization Program?
10:22Maybe, Ma'am Nina and Mr. Asek, I would like to thank the President first.
10:28I would like to thank my spokesmen and the cooperatives and corporations
10:34that are a part of our government's program.
10:37Eighty-two percent.
10:39We wholeheartedly thank President Bongbong Marcos.
10:44We are eternally grateful for his support.
10:49Like yesterday, he continued our programs.
10:54We are all happy.
10:56We are very grateful to our President PBBM
11:00and to our Department of Transportation, Secretary Jimmy Bautista,
11:05for his efforts to cover up the problems that the Senators have raised.
11:16They are doing their best to consult us and the cooperatives and corporations
11:21to talk about the problems.
11:24The same goes for the Chairman of LTFRB, Jojo Guadis,
11:32who is doing everything he can.
11:35We, our colleagues, still have time.
11:40Let's work together to make a better future for the new Philippines.
11:44Let's change the system of our land vehicles, especially the jeepneys,
11:49and give our residents a better, convenient, and safe life.
11:54That's what keeps us going.
11:56One more thing.
11:57He said, it's time for a cold change.
12:00Thank you very much.
12:01It's your time, Mr. Overt Martin, President of Pasang Mazda.
12:04Thank you, sir.
12:05Good to see you here.
12:06Thank you, sir.
12:07Good to see you here in the studio.
12:08We used to interview you on the street.
12:11My hair is a bit black.
12:14When we were kids.
12:17Our hair turned white during transportation.
12:19Thank you so much.
