00:42:27For years.
00:42:28But, um, and one event changed my life.
00:42:37I fell.
00:42:39Sixty feet.
00:42:41I, uh, cracked my vertebrae in multiple places.
00:42:44I had five surgeries.
00:42:46Doctor said I'd never walk again.
00:42:48Derek, I'm so sorry to hear that.
00:42:52Yeah.
00:42:55Yeah, that time in the hospital was like my desert.
00:43:01I didn't have much to turn to.
00:43:04But then I met Samuel Stevens.
00:43:06He was, uh, my occupational therapist.
00:43:08He not only taught me how to walk again, but he taught me about God.
00:43:13He saved my life.
00:43:16I'd do just about anything for him.
00:43:18He, uh, he gave me his granddaddy's Bible.
00:43:21I started reading it.
00:43:21Haven't put down since.
00:43:24That book, it gave me hope.
00:43:27Hope turned into healing.
00:43:28And before I know it, I was walking again.

00:43:50But I'm a firm believer in faith.

00:44:52When he died, I, I came home to help my mom on the farm.
00:44:57And after his funeral, I just, I stopped praying.
00:45:03I stopped going to church.
00:45:07And then this year of all years when we needed our biggest Easter bloom yet,
00:45:15we've had the worst winter in, in decades.
00:45:19So am I supposed to trust that's just a coincidence?
00:45:23Or is that a punishment?
00:45:25I don't think God's waiting for us to get out of line just so he can reprimand us.
00:45:29But it's not punishment.
00:45:31Look, I like to believe that God, he, he loves us just as much in good times as bad.
00:45:40Maybe during hard times, he just wanted us to get a little closer to him.

01:14:58And yet, I realize I haven't been completely open about my own journey.
01:15:11God places people in our lives for a reason.
01:15:14Someone very special in my own life taught me the importance of being who God created me to be.
01:15:27Before God's path led me here,
01:15:32I was involved in a terrible rock climbing accident.
01:15:37It was a moment that irrevocably changed several lives, mine included,
01:15:41and though I was lucky enough to have forgiveness from those around me,
01:15:46I was unable to find it in my heart to forgive myself.
01:15:55But today, in the spirit of the resurrection, I forgive myself.
01:16:05And I'm committed to embracing who He created me to be,
01:16:09including my love for rock climbing, a gift from God.
01:16:14You see, our relationship with God is rooted in love and forgiveness.
01:16:20And just as God forgives us, we too must learn to forgive each other and ourselves.
01:16:30And after all, forgiveness is the purest expression of love.
01:16:43So on this Easter Sunday, let us walk this path of love together. Amen.
